PS: I still want a big Lego head. Haven't seen them in Canberra, anyone spotted them in Sydney? :classic: -

Nice one, dotmike. -grin- Where did you get the scans? BTW, I tried joining the B&N kids club for the 30% off one qualifying purchase. I was expecting a code to be emailed or something but nothing happened. Checkout didn't show anything either. Has anyone successfully used that offer? :classic: -
Great work Sheriff. Excellent block of flats. :classic:

Nice job, LT. New Mannum looks great there in the sun, you had a good location. Have fun putting everything back together, hope you don't have too many missing pieces. :classic:

I'm guessing he got scans of the barcodes from the packs off the net, printed them out and waved them under the scanner. Good way to do a quick price check of the sets you're after. Finding out advance prices, now that's some nice thinking. :classic: -
Fantastic result, BadLeo. Very impressive rendition of our famous Opera House. :classic:

Have fun at the show, LT. :classic:

I think that's the size of it ang911. I certainly sympathise with goods turning up damaged, I'd be unimpressed too. Just wanted to balance the assessment of B&N given my positive experience. :classic: -

That wasn't my experience. There was nothing wrong with my B&N order in January, well packed in boxes with airbags. Arrived in 5 days with express shipping (which was only about $20-25 more than the cheapest shipping) :classic: -
Great theater and diner. Really nice job. :classic:

Thanks mate. It's fun trying to put a replica scene together when you can find an old photo for reference. :classic:

I like the containers, they are a good size. The wagons look good but I wonder about the well-car config. Sure you can stack the containers but if you need a car that is long enough to carry them end to end anyway then you haven't really gained anything with the double deck configuration. I'm very happy with my elongated container wagons from the 7939 set/scratch built in a similar way but I still want a few of the Maersk ones (and of course the official version of the magnificent Maersk loco). :classic:

I'd say keep the trans blue parts in the roller door. Gives you a glimpse of the interesting things inside. :classic:

Thanks everyone, I'm glad you like it. The man on the tyres was a fond childhood memory. They would change his outfit from time to time so you were always keen to see what he was wearing when you went past on the way down the hill to Manly. The frontage of the real building was pretty simple so it didn't take all that long to put together. I was thinking I'd need to use some technic axles and joiners for the tyre stack but in the end it's just a big column of 1x1 rounds. Easy to knock over but stays in place fine it you leave it alone. Thanks mate, I'm learning how stickers can really bring a model to life. That extra signage is on the list. I haven't locked down the era for the MOC, could be anything from the 60's to the 80's, or maybe I decide that in the Lego universe the place survived to the present day. Knowing what they sold would certainly help in the detailing so I'll have to look into that. :classic:

Inspired by LightningTiger's great Michelin shop, I was wondering what I could build for my town. Thinking back to when I was growing up near Manly, NSW it dawned on me. The man on the tyres. A bit of googling later and I managed to find a photo of the place from the 60's. http://www.felicity.com.au/pickled.htm It was still there while we were growing up and I remember we were sad when it was pulled down in the 80's to make way for a block of flats, though I seem to recall the man of the tyres may have been preserved for a while. Given the black and white photo I'm not sure of the original colours but I wanted to give orange bricks a run so went from there. (then realised these are the standard Lego garage colours but that's fine) I intend to add a workshop and tyre showroom but having given the game away in LT's thread earlier I thought I'd take a quick shot of the WIP. Large Comments and suggestions welcome. If you have any links to 60's tyre logos and other signs please let me know. :classic:

Cool, I'll have to look into that. That's what I've been doing this evening. Your MOC triggered a memory and a search for a photo and now I'm looking at a fair approximation on my coffee table in front of me. Isn't Lego great. :classic:

Knew I made it too easy to google. ;-) I'm just about ready to shoot that scene but it's getting a bit late. :classic:

Well in the 60's (before I was born) it was called Sinden Tyre & Rubber Company which sounds a bit grand but I'm pretty sure it was just a tyre place. The only pic I've been able to track down isn't clear enough to show what brand of tyres were on offer so I'll have to improvise. I'm having a bit of trouble tracking down an image of that old round yellow authorised inspection station sign. Do you know the one I mean? Any pointers to tyre company logos and other signs of the period would be welcome too. :classic: Oh and those tyre racks and accessories look great. I'm sure I'll be using some of your ideas when I get to the interior. :classic:

Shopfront and "special feature" completed. Working on some stickers now. Look out for it soon. Keep on buying tyres. :classic:

That would be awesome. I'll send you a PM. Thanks very much. :classic: -
Nice one again, LT. In fact, it's prompted me to look up a photo of an old, long departed tyre shop near where I grew up. Sizing it up for a MOC of my own now. :classic:

Yeah the dots can be really tough, some are clear but some are anyone's guess. Luckily I was searching with a fellow customer so he could share my cheat sheet. He was good at feeling them through the packets and helped me find the gnome and the viking whilst I found a few he was after. Thank you, whoever you were. :classic: -

Back to Target (Canberra City this time) to pick up the series 4 minifigures I missed before (success!). 1 full box of S4, 2 boxes of S3 in stock. Also scored an empty S4 retail box, just missing the Series 1 box now, wish I'd thought to pick these up from the start. Might have to pick one up on Bricklink unless anyone here has a spare one they want to give/swap/sell. :classic:
