Hmm, I just can't get excited over this, I can't decide if it looks really bad or not. The last one I felt this way for was Fire Brigade, which despite being one of my favorites now, was an extreme let down for me on announcement. Things I hate: 1) The color (Eugh) 2) I design of the floors are really bland. 3) The gray roofing on the top is really bland. 4) The skylights don't look realistic at all. 5) The "working" elevator, I'd be much happier if it was static. I'd much rather that this was Jamie Berard's original Town Hall, it puts this one to shame.

Looks like the g-forces in that thing could crush a minifig or two.

I have an unused game code (30 days, the one that came with the boxed game), does anyone know if they will convert this to a gift voucher like they're doing for game time cards?

For the geeks amongst us, I found this: http://hackaday.com/2011/12/26/ip-over-lego-train-carrier/ IPoLTC...or, IP over Lego Train Carrier. ;) The jist is that a USB drive is mounted onto a lego train that goes around stopping points. It uses Arduino to control the train. As it goes round, it stops at a stopping point, and wires touch with aluminium foil to mount the USB drive. Data is then transferred to it, and it carries on to the next stopping point. When it gets to the destination, the data is transferred off. :P I can see lots of cons to this: For a start, it aint the fastest transport protocol! Secondly, it's only half-duplex. And it doesn't seem to have a huge range. Nevertheless I found it entertaining. :)

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion
Mr Hobbles replied to whung's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Holy guacamole...that's very early! This series looks super exciting. :D Things I love: Scottish Bagpiper!!!! Hippie Geek/Software Engineer (Look at that mug with the "C:\" on it, this is amazing!) Little Red Riding Hood Space Man I already can't wait for this... -
That new brick seperator looks like its missing one piece of key functionality over the old one. With the old one, you could use two brick seperators to seperate two 1x2 plates by placing one on top and one on the bottom. But it looks like the axle pusher would get in the way on the new one?

I've been collecting all the modulars so far, but I will definitely be picking these up to put on my desk at work.

A full set of series 5 minifigures. Pleased with this as I bought them through BrickLink, and they came in cheaper than buying in the shops would be! (£31.73 for the lot as opposed to £32 if I got extremely lucky and got no duplicates in the shops!). Also 20200 Master Builder Academy (Rockets), and 20201 Master Builder Academy (Microscale), both from BrickLink as well.

Do you have a link to those instructions? Really interested in checking them out. :)

Well, I guess the fact that Lego asked for it to be removed makes it official. I love how that works. I've always wanted my own copy of Jamie's Town Hall modular he made a few years back, so I'm hoping it'll be like that. Even a larger version of the Town Plan one would be great. I think it's more likely though that it'll be a new design entirely. I wonder what it'll look like!

My God. That van. I must have it. "Make LEGO models, not war". Epic.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 6 Discussion
Mr Hobbles replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm willing to bet those are legit. On the source link there's also a picture of the Young Han Solo minifig which isn't due out until September 16th along with the Padawan Menace DVD. The Statue of Liberty minifig looks amazing. :) -
Disney posted this trailer for the upcoming "Planes" DVD movie and it looks great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFLFgPFuqT0 Does anyone know if TLG's Cars license extends to Planes too? If so then I hope theres some new sets coming!

Hi all, I'm hoping to purchase a set of Santa Fe cars, but I had a question about the colors. Were these sets released in light grey or light bluish grey? I swear I've seen it in bley but I haven't been able to find anything saying otherwise. Thanks

Free LEGO promotion with UK Sun and News of the World
Mr Hobbles replied to pedro's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
The only one I was bothered about was the X-Wings yesterday as I plan to make a Death Star trench run diorama. I went to WH Smith here in Dundee around about 5pm and there were still plenty copies of The Sun. Picked up 3, took them to the counter, asked for the toys, and she handed them over (From a massive box that was still over half full) at the same time without taking the coupons. Realising this, I walked out, ripped out the coupons, went upstairs, and traded them in for a further 3. :) I think the Jack Sparrows today were more popular though as I needed to go into WH Smith and noticed they had run out of Jack's and were giving out the remainders of yesterdays X-Wings instead. -
I've warmed up to this since the first pictures were released a few days ago. It's really growing on me. Now that there's some larger, more detailed pictures, I can finally appreciate the subtleties.

Hmm. It's good, but not great. It's nice to have some buildings that aren't 32 wide, and they'll certainly add some nice variation. I also quite like the spiral staircase. I'm not keen on the building on the left though. Maybe it's the colours. Maybe it's the bay window, or the balcony above it. I'm just not that big a fan. I like the pet store though, nice colours, sign is good, and interior looks good. Also, were these designed by Jamie Berard? The building on the left has the same decoration above the door as one of his Cafe Corner alternative models...

Lego Master Building Academy (MBA)
Mr Hobbles replied to Darth Jar Jar's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This confuses me slightly too. Firstly, if you go up a level every six months, that means next year will be levels 3 and 4, which means new sets. But for those who only start next year, the first sets will need to be available still. So a few years down the line, when you're level 10, Lego needs to have 30 sets (3 per level) still in production, which is quite a large commitment for them. Lego never usually keeps a set around for more than 2 years (Although there are exceptions), so I'm wondering what they're going to do every couple of years. -
It could just be me, but it looks like the new box says 1230 pieces as opposed to 1204 pieces?
-
I would give my right arm (I write with my left, so that's a no go) for those official custom minifigs.

This one is part of the Landmark Series which are meant to showcase monuments and landmarks, not the Architecture series, which are meant to honor renowned architects. The other sets in the Landmark Series are the Empire State Building, Sears Tower, Seattle Space Needle, and the John Hancock Centre, all of which are the same basic idea as this one. See here. Personally I think that considering it's meant to be a small desk model of the tallest building in the world, I think it's a fairly faithful rendition. Sure, it's not that detailed, and it looks fairly repetitive, but so does the real thing from afar. I also followed the URL in his photos, and he has a YouTube video with a stop motion video of the construction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z9RFqy4OtU

Hi all, Found this gallery on BrickShelf, which appears to have box shots of 21008 Burj Khalifa. I had a quick search, but didn't see that anyone had posted it, so hopefully this isn't a duplicate thread. BrickShelf Gallery Edit by WhiteFang (insert image)

Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List
Mr Hobbles replied to Siegfried's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
+1 to adreva11 Great trade and really fast. -
Just did some quick calculations. I count approx 156 studs along the near side (I counted past the 12x6 plates, then estimated the rest). At 8mm per stud this is about 124.8cm. It's at an estimated 20 degree angle to the centre (30 degree plate, angled down), which puts it at 132.8cm long. Taking into account my estimations, and margin of error, I think it's fairly safe to assume that it is between 130-140cm long. This thing is a monster. :D
