DC Superheroes 2016 - Rumors and Discussion
rob-ot5000 replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
If you haven't gone back through the thread, the ONLY thing that 'psqidexslizer248' forgot to mention, which you should be aware of: the Mighty Micro minifigs come with short legs, so adjust your expectations accordingly. And yes, I can't wait to see and build and have and hold and covet that '66 Batcave.- 8,446 replies

This makes me sad. Makes me want to bring the Temple over. I highly doubt it's made up, since I happen to know the OP, and his niece, and her parents, and yeah, it sounds real enough. She's of the age and disposition where societal norms and roles are starting to become a more real influence. And no, nobody at TLG said that to her, nor did her parents. There's no way they're dropping $200 on that set for her, that's true, but they also wouldn't tell her it's a "boy's" set. Her dad is the bigger Lego fan over there, and they buy and build all sorts of things together. I think the biggest reason for her saying that, and coming to that conclusion ON HER OWN, is related to... ...this sort of argument. Advertising. Gender-based marketing. Societal norms. Peer influence. Numerous factors. It's a vicious, complicated, circular affair. This was an incredibly interesting comment. Thanks! Game, set, match? ...... I forgot to quote it, but I am reminded of the post from the Polish (I believe?) Lego Store worker who suggested that many kids don't realize that the sets/builds/minifigs as depicted in the advertising, marketing materials, and box art can be changed however they want. Someone else suggested a lack of imagination on the part of today's kids, and I don't know how true that is, but I'd be more than willing to lay some of blame in the direction of advertising, and the way children recieve and interpret all of this information. Let's be clear, it's a tricky subject and I have no answers or authority, only thoughts. As for "having this conversation again", I'm new to these boards, and new-ish to the hobby, so it's the first time for me.

DC Superheroes 2016 - Rumors and Discussion
rob-ot5000 replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I kind of hope I hate the Cycle Chase set. I just want a regular ol' classic-style Harlequin-Harley. Not a fan of the nu-Harley or Arkham-Harley. I'll either be getting the Dimensions pack or snagging her from BrickLink/eBay, since I wasn't around for the previous iterations. I'm on the fence about Deadshot. It's going to depend on the costume as to whether or not I'll want it.- 8,446 replies

Dunno how this works, but is it possible to add the new set description to the first post? I was looking to reread it, so I headed there, since that's what happens in the other threads I'm following. I found it, so no worries, I was just surprised it wasn't there already. Also, HA! -
Marvel Superheroes 2016 Rumors And Discussion
rob-ot5000 replied to Quicksilver's topic in LEGO Licensed
^ This. I don't really expect he will, and I'm looking forward to the show quite a bit regardless, but a little part of me will be sad if he doesn't have purple skin. But back to the real topic... I second all of this. I've liked Marvel's/the Russo brothers'/Daniel Bruhl's stuff in the past, so I have faith that I'll at least somewhat enjoy the portrayal, and I can't even really picture it in live-action in my head, but the same part of me that will miss the Purple Man will miss the purple Zemo mask. I guess purple isn't for boys. If only this were the Friends line! And while I may enjoy the film, I have zero interest in a non-iconic, non-comic-based based, non-masked Zemo fig. -
I will be surprised, and disappointed, if 40221 isn't a GWP for the Brick Bank release window. Looks great, can't wait! I do agree that it hardly seems "seasonal", though if it's released Jan. 1 to coincide with the Brick Bank, I guess the date makes it "seasonal"...sort of...

I wasn't seduced AWAY from anything, but I was definitely seduced by the modular line. I had no real interest in them except for the Palace Cinema, having worked at a movie theater for many years. Then I built it....and got hooked. I have all of the ones that are currently available (DO, PR, PC, PS), and I'm considering buying or Bricklinking at least the Grand Emporium, since I really like the look of that one.

Nice. Today I decided NOT to buy Lego so I could buy a camping hammock. Then I came home and contemplated building the Kwik-E-Mart I bought last week. Not yet. Not yet....

I'm (relatively) recently back in to Lego, so I've being anticipating the release of the first modular corner building since my return, and I've gotta say, this looks pretty fantastic. I've already got the Palace Cinema (and PS, PR, and DO), so it will be great to have a second corner building. Count me in the camp who thinks the play features for the modular line are unnecessary, though it do think this one is cute and much better (and funnier) than the cookie-smuggling operation of the DO. My first modular was the Parisian Restaurant, and it was so great seeing the interior details come together, so I'm definitely a fan of interiors, and this one looks pretty sweet. Those photoshopped XL version of this are going to infect my brain and try to convince me to buy multiples of this...but I will likely resist.

Which lego hair piece best matches your real hair?
rob-ot5000 replied to Bingo Little's topic in Community
My minifig lost its hairpiece about 15 years ago. -
Well, I found a guy on Craigslist who pays people in Lego to help sort Lego. I get to keep 10% of what I sort. It's pretty neat. I'm finding all sorts of interesting pieces that I've never seen, plus I get to pull pieces that are useful for MOCs I'm working on. All in all, it's a pretty sweet deal. Just started looking through my second batch today.

Very nice. Your builds are always amazing.

Disney minidolls into minifigs
rob-ot5000 replied to Dorayaki's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
These look cool. I've only seen about half of the movies referenced, but I especially like Jasmine, though I wish there were an accompanying Aladdin as well. What is that headpiece Jasmine has? Prince Charming looks great, too. I'm looking forward to whatever comes of these "Disney CMF-type series" rumors. (Though I hope there will be more of the Disney characters I know.) Have you made any more of these lately? -
Hey, thanks guys. I've gotta say, I'm awfully nervous about making posts so far. Reading through the various forums and threads, seeing all the old posts of banned members, witnessing tensions in some current threads, sometimes involving moderation, sometimes not, and then reading over the new members FAQs and such. Seems so serious, sometimes. I don't foresee any issues on my end, but... Makes me nervous.

Lol, the best part is: you put your name in the tags, so I DIDN'T have to read the post to find out! Mwahaha. Hi George, I'm Robbie, and I guess I'm even newer. Yay?

Hi! So, then: introductions, I suppose! My name is Robbie, I'm from Atlanta, Georgia, and I like LEGO. Obviously. Aside from that, I also enjoy reading, writing, drawing, painting, and plenty of other things. I am a nerd of the comic book-ey, superhero-ey variety, as well as being a film lover of all different genres. (I <3 David Fincher. And Stanley Kubrick. Okay, I shouldn't have started this aside.) Let's see, relevent stuff... I'm in my mid-30s and just left the dark ages about a year and a half ago. I buy Marvel and DC Superheroes stuff, largely dependent on characters, and Star Wars stuff, based on the builds moreso than the Superheroes lines though. I also love the modular line, as well as anything big and amazing, like the Temple of Airjitzu and the Ferris Wheel. I also pick up various Ideas sets and the whichever CMFs strike my fancy. I've recently started checking out the MOC scene. In fact, I just finished building my second MOC! The first was just a giant tree. It was awesome. But I tore it down to make a city park to fit between my modulars, which I am super-happy with. There's a sweet newsstand out front. I'll get around to posting pics at some point, Shirley. Currently, I'm working on a Fortress of Solitude (Superman's HQ, FYI) playset. This was actually the first MOC I started, but there are many, many challenges in what I'm trying to do, which has admittedly changed quite a bit. I think my first BrickLink order for this MOC totaled around $200, most of which I'm no longer using with the current design. "Oh well, what the hell." (I'm a Joseph Heller fan, too.) Okay, well, I'm sure I could write another five paragraphs, but I will refrain. Maybe next time I hope I did this right....

I figured I would take this opportunity to try the quote function. I've had issues with IE on other forums as well, but I can't stand the touchpad scroll with other browsers. I just downloaded Firefox, which is what I'm posting with at the moment. Everything looks like it's working just fine. But, again, I prefer IE's touchpad scrolling over this one. Same for Chrome. I really do dislike IE, but man, ever since I got my Surface Pro 3, the scrolling was just incredibly jarring with Chrome, as it is with Firefox. I tried compatibility mode in IE, but kept getting the same delayed reaction from the keyboard. It's like there's a dead zone for keystrokes that occurs every 1.6 seconds. So odd. Basically I'm still typing right now just to make sure that it's working, properly and that any silly typos and errors are my own. Guess I'll have to decided to either use this new browser or stay in lurk-mode forever. Thanks for the advice, Pandora! Test. Test. Test. Test. Test. Test. -
