Today I picked up Moloch's Speeder, the Jurassic Park set, and a Thanos Brickheadz (my first Brickheadz).
-
Are they currently available? What are their Element Numbers?

I picked up Moloch's speeder today. Looking forward to the build, but also afterwards I'm looking forward to having some of the great parts, the Moloch minifigure, and the Corellian Hounds.
-
But unlike Dimensions, which was similar in that aspect, Brickheadz are not minifigure scale. Unless these licenses are released as sets or in minifigure scale, it's largely irrelevant to many consumers.

I saw a leak of the new white owl from Harry Potter. It looks a lot like the old one, but I'm glad they will be readily available!

Thanks for posting that! I've been considering building one of my own, but I'm not really a fan of Brickheadz. I just think it would be a good way to represent that character. I think I'd use more purple in mine.

I found that set to be very useful as well, and have 3 copies of it. But you're right, sets like that are rare and many licensed figures are too distinctive to be useful. Still, I find I get a lot of use out of select Star Wars sets as well. I like to have a variety of strange fantasy races, and Star Wars aliens often fit the bill. There are also other characters with great torso prints and such that work well in a fantasy setting, and many of the sets contain a lot of grey pieces. But still, these are few and far between.

I am as well, and am holding out hope that something more will appear.

Well then those are 2 defined characters fighting. Yes, a child may want to give them different attributes, but other Castle minifigures are much less defined. But that's not the point. The point is that really there is no non-licensed Castle theme, and that licensed themes seem to be creeping steadily into those slots formerly occupied by the non-licensed themes. Many see this as tragic. You may not, and that's fine, but many of us do, and it's perfectly OK that we do. I get what you are saying, but I think this works on a bell curve (at least to me) and that Castle (or other generic non-licensed traditional LEGO themes) is in the sweet spot between offering nothing to build upon (generic brick boxes) and offering too much (pre-existing licensed worlds).

Yes, it definitely has that inspiration. It could also work for fans of Batman Beyond with the black and red color scheme.

No problem, happy to help! I hope to see you posting more projects here. This one is cool, and I love the concept of combining the themes.

I would leave the Ninjago dragons off, because they are essentially brick-built. The Minecraft animals are also largely brick-built, but some are a little more molded and creature-like. The Creeper, for example, is made up of 4 parts, and only 2 of them are standard pieces (the 1x2 tiles on the sides):

With generic Castle sets, there is more room for imagination to build and play in a fully self-created world. With Harry Potter, there is a bit more of a focus on the building and play, and that is a focus on a specific license. Also, Harry Potter is set in the modern world rather than the medieval era, so that changes the perception as well.

Unikitty feels girl-oriented because of the bright colors and rainbows, but also the pink female unicorn kitten protagonist. Anyways, this is getting quite off-topic. The point is that it seems Harry Potter will do to Castle what Star Wars did to Space, which is effectively kill the theme. While there are many people hoping for Harry Potter to become evergreen because they love the theme, there are also many people lamenting the virtual death of the Castle theme. This is especially true when considering in-house Space themes since the inception of Star Wars, or in-house Pirates themes since the inception of Pirates of the Caribbean. Considering that these used to be the flagship themes of LEGO, it's disheartening to see them replaced by licensed counterparts that just don't offer the same experience. I'm excited for these Harry Potter sets to a degree. I love the design of the thestral. I like a lot of the other designs, and some of the minifigures could be useful. It will certainly give us some parts that will be useful. But I fear for the future of Castle if this is going to essentially be replacing it. It is missing so much of what makes Castle work.

You linked to a different set. Here is the image you were trying to link: It's a really nicely designed and built vehicle. I would have expected perhaps more yellow than red, but the way you described the Batman influence coming into it later, this makes sense. Good work!

That's fair, and to be honest I didn't really look into it enough to make the distinction. You're right about the Wright brothers, though. I think this could be a great project, though I imagine the planes would be smaller than System / minifigure scale if it was produced. -

I can see the images now. This is a nice build of a good concept. The build looks good, and the presentation is funny. Great job! -

I agree, and that's why I see the Amelia Earhart as the only airplane project likely to pass review. I think the Amelia Earhart project does more to support aviation, exploration, and positive female icons, so I think it actually holds a different value than what is held by that pictured set. She is a well known historic pilot, and has appeared in a lot of popular media over the years (Star Trek: Voyager, for example). So she's far from a forgettable nobody. And yes, part of the interest in her story concerns the mystery of her disappearance. It's intriguing. So she is a mysterious historic figure with pop culture appeal. I'd say that's worth a minifigure. Anyways, I really have no strong opinions on the Amelia Earhart project and its success or failure, I'm just pointing out that it does have merit. -

Yes, this is what I imagine. Finding the right combination may be a challenge, but once that is accomplished it's just a matter of getting the pieces in the correct colors.- 991 replies
