  1. Great review Brickthing! I like your nicely written introduction, and you got some phantastic pictures of Surge. I think I should also get a white background for my reviews, it really makes a difference. As I stated in my own review of him, I really like Surge too (aside from the hollow back), but I wonder what he'd look like with teal instead of lime. Just out of curiosity... how many spare parts did you got?
  2. Actually I had intended to review Breez first (since I got her even a week earlier than Surge and my two villain sets), but Omicron Squad Leader wanted to make a review first. So I'm gently waiting until his review is online before I wrote mine (though I start to become a little bit impatient... ). You know I think he would also look good with teal instead of lime... I'm also a bit tired of the enormous amount of lime sets in Hero Factory. The only colour that's more common would be red, but also only because of Fire Lord and his buddies (and even there, red was not as dominant than lime was in the case of Corroder, Scorpio and the 3 versions of Breez). Not that lime is a bad colour, it's just that other colours (like blue, orange or friggin' bright green!) could also deserve a bit more attention. I'm also tempted to get some sort of armour for Surge's hollow back, but I'm not too fond of the idea using a 2.0 foot because of the empty ball socket, which would stand out a bit. On the other hand, I have no idea what else could be used here...
  3. Ah, my bad. But now I'd like to see a picture of Furno 2.0 among the prisoners. ;P
  4. How about a slightly damaged hero in mid-battle? I think a 2.0 hero with partly molten armour would look badass. Otherwise I'd recommend to weather the 3.0 heroes. On the mods itself... I like the paint job you put on them, though it's nothing I'd to with my sets (aside from various old Kanohi masks and a 2nd Kopaka I bought - both of them got some painting with an edding, but especially the repainted Kopaka looks extremely ugly). I also really love the bags. Since bags are only an addition and not a total modification of a piece, I'm tempted to make bags myself. Besides, I already built once a MOC with an custom cape.
  5. He is? I'm confused... After , I start to wonder the spiked guy may not be Von Nebula because he got three spike pads (however, said character is too bulky to be Xplode).
  6. Von Nebula can be also seen among the escaping prisonres, so he's also not behind the breakout.
  7. Mark Surge is back! While he was absent during the mission on Savage Planet, he's now back in action with all new equipment, which he definitely needs on his mission to stop Splitface from messing up the communication satellite Sigma. But does his newes update holds up to his former incarnations? Let's find out in this little review. Set name: SURGE Set Number: 6217 Price: 9.99 Euro Pieces: 45 pieces Year of release: Late 2011/Early 2012 Size: Small set Unlike the previous waves of Hero Factory (and Bionicle), the sizeclasses of the sets were slightly altered. Surge is one of the smaller sets of this wave. The canister bag TLG choosed a new packaging for this Hero Factory Wave - bags. While I was a bit sceptical at first, I start to appreciate that decision, since the bags are easier to store away. They're also more durable than you might expect. But I do miss the good old sturdy canisters though. At least Black Phantom still got a box, which is good, because . Surge is dashing (flying? Floating?) through space, and Splitface is behind him shooting friggin' lasers to blast an asteroid right behind Surge. I guess he aimed for our hero, and if he would actually focused on Surge instead looking at the cameraman he might had hit him. Oh, I've already started to interpret too much into this picture, so let's move on. The back demonstrates the shooting ability of his arm cannon and the handcuffs, which are the new gimmick of this line. There are also some screenshots of the new online game, which looks interesting. And yes, below those pics are the chunks of text none of us will ever read, so I decided to not include them on this picture. There's also a line which indicates were you cut it open without without damaging the seal. If you remember my review of Bulk 3.0 you'll probably know that I love to compare canisters and such, so I couldn't resist to make this picture. As you can see, Surge's bag is slightly larger than the past HF canisters, while Breez's bag (she's a "Deluxe"-sized set) is even larger. Right out of the box, most parts are in yet another plastic bag. Of course, there are also the building instructions. The pieces - overview Surge comes with 45 pieces in total, which is exactly 15 pieces more like Bulk 3.0, who was at the same price point. Alongside with various parts in his main colour blue, he also got some lime green this time. Since I always appreciate the limb bones in new colours, I'm happy to see lime green bones here. Random instruction page. While various other reviewers already mentioned that the white outlines for black parts have returned, I didn't really noticed the change at first, it was like "What? Weren't the outlines for black parts not always white?" The combiner, which requires Splitface. Looks ugly IMO. There's also that neat pic at the end of the instructions. I couldn't resist to upload it here too. New pieces Surge comes with the new torso piece, which is sleeker and more detailed. He also got a nice printing of lightning bolts on the chest, which nicely fits his character and looks gorgeous on the blue background. He also got the new launcher in gunmetal. The lower part looks like a shorter Glatorian launcher, while the upper part reminds me of the Midak Skyblaster of the Phantoka. Both pieces are pretty decent. Okay, okay... it's not a new piece, but still... Surge's thunderweapon with a blue lightning looks friggin' awesome, so I just had to mention it. Sadly he only comes with one of those, not two. The new hero core is white (bright grey on the inner ring) and even smaller then the previous ones. It also doesn't require some sort of armour piece like the past two ones and due to that it stands a bit more out on the finished set. It's also only available in white. (Oh, there's also a code for the new game on it's back) Here we got the cuffs, which look kinda nice. But to be honest, I don't care much about the entire "space police/prison break/cuff the baddies" theme that's going on, so don't be surprised that most of the later pictures of this review won't feature them. But I'm tempted to use them as some sort of claws on a MOC. Building the Hero Surge's build doesn't differ much from previous heroes. It starts with the core skeleton, continues to the legs... ...the armour, the arms, the weapons... ...and ends with the head. Surge is ready for his mission! I was surprised how many spare parts he got. Playability and set design Pew pew! Zwooosh! Well, I guess it's no surprise that Surge is pretty poseable. He also comes with two fun gimmicks to play with, the launcher and the cuffs. The new launcher however doesn't work as well as the old symmetrical ones did though. About Surge's design and colours... I like him. Medium blue and lime work very well together, and the way how the lime is placed across his body works also pretty good. And since he's blue, small and wields an arm cannon, he slightly reminds me of good old Mega Man, and that's a pluspoint aswell. As one of the smaller sets Surge suffers the empty back like the past heroes did. By the way, the lack of some armour here doesn't only make those heroes look hollow, but also a little bit flat compared to sets who got back armour, like Breez. Speaking of Breez, here's a little size comparison between Breez, Surge and Stormer. Surge is obviously around the same size as Stormer 3.0, and Breez is a little larger than the guys. Bonus Image In case you're wondering what Surge would look like with the chestplate of his 2.0 version... he looks like this. It looks cool, but it hinders the articulation of his head and covers most of the neat detail of his new torso armour. Final thoughts Thanks to his colour scheme and overall design, Surge is currently my favourite hero of the new wave. Breez might come with better pieces and also a very cool design (she's basically Samus Aran!), but her colour scheme (which is dominated by lime green with bright red) doesn't look as good to me as Surge's does. The only things which are bugging me about him are his hollow back and the stoic launcher. So if you were missing a blue set in the past wave, Surge is worth his money. But if blue is not really your thing, you're probably better of with Breez, Rocka or Thornraxx.
  8. I'd give hime two yellow hands and maaaybe remove the spikes, but aside from that, I really like your revamp!
  9. Once again, thanks for the review Siegfried. After reading your review, Evo actually became a bit more interesting to me. One thing I actually like about him is his simplistic design. He doesn't wear any other tools or weapons than his really badass-looking arm cannon, and he looks good that way. My only complain about him would be the hollow back, luckily, not all of the 2012 sets suffer from this. However, I'm personally more tempted to get Surge, which I'll probably also review if nobody else is planning to get him (and because Omicron Squad Leader got the dibs on Breez )
  10. Sadly no. The only Superheroes in the catalogue are the buildable ones, not one single Superhero-Minifig.
  11. Joker looks okay to me. What really bugs me is his hollow back, which became very obvious here due to the "lizard tails" which assume he's wearing a jacket when he actually isn't. But thanks for the review. I really hope some of his pieces (like purple armour) make it to Pick-a-Brick though.
  12. Ah... I overlooked your previous post. Sorry about that. Too bad, because I'm already ready'n'set to write one. Maybe I'll post one after you... I mean, there were already multiple reviews on other sets as well. But now to the new Sets! First of all, blurry pictures are blurry. In more than half of the cases I can only guess. Nex - Nothing special, except for the translucent LEGO Antenna, which reminds me of my childhood were those were common in the old Spaceship sets (are they still common? I don't know...). Stringer - Blue looks nice. I wonder if he wears some sort of large rifle. XT4 - His head looks weird to me. His overall design is nice though. Core Hunter - Dark and menacing. He looks promising. Bulk - The shoulder-mounted cannon looks pretty neat. I'm pretty sure his armour in this picture is only a placeholder. Voltix - Weird tentacle monster with a rather messy colour scheme. But I'm curious about his back. Stormer XL - While I do prefer white over gold, he looks not as impressive as Rocka XL did. But if he isn't too pricey (like Witch Doctor) and comes with neat parts, odds are rather good that I'll buy him.
  13. Uhm... you do know each one of them costs actually 14,99€? Ah, I didn't really noticed that. I thought it's the same piece as seen in the current HF-wave. I hope one of them will also be released in white...
  14. I got the German LEGO catalogue today and it contains finalized pics of the Marvel heroes: Apparently, all six of them will hit German shelves in May. Captain America's torso armour got not only a star, but also a chainmail-like pattern printed on. Also, Hulk got armour. Too bad that the Hero torso armour isn't available in lime green (because if it would be, you could easily make him completely green). His face got improved though. And Iron Man didn't changed that much, but he looks pretty cool overall.
  15. Graaah, all those new pics and I don't have the time to discuss them now! I just got Breez today and I was wondering if anybody else already decided to review her. If not, I'll write a review today.
  16. Thanks for the review! While I'm not the greatest fan of gold, this version of Rocka starts to grow on me. In addition to the lovely shield, the crossbow cannon is also a nice touch.
  17. Nice review! I'm looking forward for your review of Evo. I have mixed feelings about Sludge. The design of his arms is glorious, and I also like all the transgreen that's going on there. But the visible neck joint above his head is bugging me a bit (though it's not as obvious as in many of the 2010 villains). Oh, and I'm surprised that he doesn't even have so much lime pieces and still looks very lime (similiar to Furno 3.0, who looks very red). One question though: Are his feet new? I remember something about a redesign of these clawed feet, but they don't look much different from the old ones...
  18. In other words, he'll be around the same price as Scorpio... which is very, very good. Odds are high that I'll get him, Thornraxx, Breez and Surge. But I'm still waiting for the day when the new rounded shoulder armour pieces are released in white. Please TLG, please! EDIT: Saw him today, he costs the same as Scorpio. I'll pick him up after christmas.
  19. Thanks for the review, Siegfried! I was already curious about BP's look, and now I'm quite sure I'll get him, since he's definitely an improvement over the past titans (he also comes in colours I prefer more and I'm optimistic he'll be less pricey than Rocka XL or Witch Doctor). Let us cross fingers that the sets will arrive soon here in Germany. -.-
  20. That news is fantastic. We gonna get LEGO Aragorn, LEGO Gimli and LEGOlas (I'm sorry for that pun) and LEGO Uruk-hai with little LEGO Uruk-hai swords! Also, the inevitable LEGO Lord of the Rings game will be totally awesome.
  21. I'm actually tempted to get Batman once he's released here. His design and look works also quite well with the slightly robotic look of the various LEGO pieces. However, I'll try to put Jayko's cape on him and if that's too short, I'll make my own for him. I think he'll look much better with a cape. Nevertheless, he comes with a fair amount of neat pieces. And thanks for the review, Luxor!
  22. Thanks for the review. While I don't like the new packaging (simply because I prefer sturdy canisters) and I'm still unsure about the new hero cores, but aside from that, this version of Furno looks pretty neat. Sadly, I'll still have to wait some time until they'll hit German shelves. One last question about Furno... while his helmet is the old one, what about the head piece underneath the helmet? Is it the same Iron Man-like head back from 2009 or is it a new mold with minor modifications?
  23. Nice review! It's really interesting to see Jawblade in plastic, he looks way less bulky than I thought he would. Regarding his jaw... I think it's a piece from Bionicle. Bitil and Gorast were using it as feet, if I recall correct.
  24. I think the cannons on his back look a bit odd, but aside from that, this MOC looks fantastic. I'm also fond of the colour scheme. I wouldn't had thought that red and purple would work well together.
  25. Hmmm... I wonder when the new sets will show up here in Germany...
