I got some of the blind-packed HALO figures, mostly because I'm kinda slutty for blind packs, despite hating them, AND I was trying to find LEGO minifigs at the time. I also have a number of the C3 sets that go with the Minimates. The quality on those bricks is generally fairly okay, but the designs were sorta crud. Still, the C3 Batcave I have does the trick when I get sad I was unable to afford the LEGO one. I still have a real love for Minimates, too. But yeah, don't feel bad. Do what you like! To be completely frank, while I'm not in love with Mega Blox by any stretch, I find the anti-Mega Blox sentiment around these parts a smidge off-putting sometimes. LEGO is clearly the superior product, but we can and should love the lesser makes when they offer something like this: stuff LEGO can't or wont.

I'm looking to buy 3 complete basketball players, so that I may actually try and use the 2 on 2 set properly [i only have a single playable minifigure]. That would be spring legs, modified arms, and [preferably] heads and hats. They could be street figures [although I have this one, so different ones would be preferred] or the NBA variety. Any and all are fine by me, so long as I might finally get some hot 2 on 2 action going. If you happen to have three that need a new home, shoot me an asking price and we'll see if we can make ourselves a deal.

Yesterday, I again found a bag of oldish LEGO at the Value Village [a second hand store, if you're not in Canada] and looking through some of the wackier pieces, I was struck with a question. What I love about LEGO is that any piece made might theoretically be used in some other manner given the right inspiration and imagination, but I've found a few that seem to defy this fundamental principle. Like 6549: gearshift lever and 6543: gearshift plate. But at least they have studs or technic connections. What of x135, the Hockey Puck? Try as I might... that thing just will never not be a hockey puck. And it doesn't even have any standard LEGO/Technic connection points, so even if it did look like something else, you can't very well connect it. So have you come across other pieces like this? And have you managed to MOC with any of them? Is LEGO still making pieces with extremely limited applications?

I'd like to kindly submit some of the things I've whipped up for indexing! I caved and got myself a Brickshelf gallery, so I can now upload LDD files. Most of this stuff comes from my Spookytown collection. Spooky. Graveyard and Count Brickula's Terrifying Organ LXF [for both the above in a single file] Frankenstein Minilab LXF Cthulhu Bust of Doom LFX

So I took some advice and worked my way through the interface. Figuring out which piece I wanna find is sort of the hardest part, although I've yet to formulate an actual order, so I dunno nuthin' 'bout that business. It does seem to bum me out that a single Hippogriff wing is gonna cost, at best, the same it cost me for the entire bag of parts which contained the first wing, but I guess that's the nature of trying to track down rare parts. I'm sad to report, however, that single arms don't seem to be available, so I'm back to my original intention, which is asking on here if anyone just happens to have loose, available minifigure arms. Why you would, I have no idea, but hey. You never know. One of the torsos missing a left arm is yellow Slave Girl Leia, which is a figure torso that could be fun to use in inappropriate situations, hence my desire to complete the thing.

Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List

I should like to give a +1 to BendyBadger for a trade well handled all around! He made my first LEGO trade extremely enjoyable. -
Finally Series 3 hits Canada!
IAmWillGibson replied to legomaniac83's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Gor blimey. I was out and around on Wednesday, and saw nothing of the sort. If I can convince the better half to go shopping again, maybe I'll come across some, but the Walmart in Toronto is notoriously understocked most of the time. -
Maybe that's my issue with it. I view Bricklink as sort of a bulk-purchase place, rather than this-and-that specific bit, and maybe that's where I'm wrong. It would behoove me to purchase anything in an order from a single seller though, right? Because shipping is a thing I'd have to be aware of. Either way, I'd need to add the "Wheel Centre Wide with Stub Axles" to the list of needed parts now... The three-wheeled motorcycle's kinda no good without a front wheel.

Yesterday I bought three big bags of random parts from Value Village for 10 bucks. It was a sweet deal, and after sorting out the filthy Megablocks and disposing of the grievously chewed pieces [seriously, how does this happen?] I was still left with a couple hundred useful pieces, many of which were pretty unique and new to me. However, I'm left with a number of parts that can't fully be used without another part, which weren't in the bag. So I'm interested in sussing out a few of these, preferably from someone on here, if possible, mostly because Bricklink, while conceptually lovely, doesn't seem to support my needs. Namely, I need, like, Minifigure arms. Just arms, and specifically left ones [whoever gave these up was a weird kid, it seems]. 2 yellow ones, and a tan one [with dark gray hand]. Also a pair of black arms [left/right] and a red right arm. Do people just have these kickin' around? Other missing stuff I can cope with, but I'd like a hanger for the old-style door [shutter hanger, Peeron wants to call it], and a single stone Hippogriff wing. What are the odds of these being easy to find from a nice local North American? Either that, or can someone convince me that Bricklink isn't as scary as it sorta looks?

I distinctly remember getting this set from my grandmother for Christmas, and it stayed intact through a lot of changes in my personal LEGO preference, until the time where two of the blue clips broke, so weapon storage became impossible. I recently found the instructions while organizing all the old-musty pieces in the basement. This review came at such a perfectly timely moment, and now this set is 100% shortlisted for rebuilding/refurbishment. Exciting times.

I was looking through some of my minifigures today, and much to my dismay I found a higher number than I'd like that are cracked along the side of the belly. And not old figures: fairly recently-purchased. Zev from the rebel pack, a snow trooper, the dirtbike guy from that one World Racers set, a couple others... It bums me out, man. So my question, for those of you with more experience: is this just something that happens? Is there something I did wrong? Is a crack like this sort of a solid-state injury, where it happens to the point it is now, and wont get worse? Will a figure crack pretty much right away, or might more figures become split in time? And is there a way or a hope [or a need] of fixing this damage? Thoughts and opinions welcome!

After the smoke settled [gifts and Christmas monies], I ended up with two Brickmaster books [Castle and Atlantis], 6240 Kraken Attackin', 7599 Garbage Truck Getaway, 8061 Gateway of the Squid, 5983 Undercover Cruiser, 4899 Tractor, 7020 Army of Vikings, a Scout Trooper key chain, and the entirety of collectible series 1. Not to mention an intense organization and rebuild of old sets at the folks' place over the visit, as well as a decently-sized random box of old stuff [including most of the parts for 6073 Knight's Castle] found while visiting the wife's mom's place. All in all, I'd say it was a pretty overwhelming LEGO influx.

If you think there aren't any great LEGO games, you haven't played Atlantis Treasure.

I think this might be the first LEGO rarity I really want. It hits many of my current obsessions. Shame I can't order it from LEGO.com, but there ya go.

It is really cool to see in person. I didn't even realize what it actually was until I was right up next to it, because you have to see it from the side to recognize what's going on. Also, the ones in the Rockefeller Center don't look as large and filled-in as the Billund one does, so I'm sure it's an impressive sight.

What's the best Minifigure ever made?
IAmWillGibson replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There are a lot of figures I like, and it seems like every other modern figure is upping the ante in some way, but I think, from my own experience, I have to go with Captain Red Beard/Brickbeard [or whatever his real name may be]. I just think that he had enough innovations in one figure [peg leg AND hook hand?!] to really make me amazed as a kid. I would have killed to get one, and I'm not entirely sure I ever actually got one. Alternately, I also loved the derelict captain because A] he was as interesting as the above, B] he had more story built in to him [How did he get to this lowly state? Will he ever return to glory?] and c] I owned one. Of modern figures, Squid Warrior reigns supreme. Most impressive minifigure currently available! -
Review: 7985 Temple of Atlantis
IAmWillGibson replied to Etzel's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I've managed to convince myself to never even consider large sets like this, both because of lack of space and lack of funds, but I've become a real fan of Atlantis and there is so much in this set to like... The Crab-man is awesome, the temple and seaweed looks really good, and the gold man is the microfigure from the Atlantis Treasure LEGO game, which I can no longer think isn't 'in continuity.' -
Set Restoration: Original (vintage) or new parts?
IAmWillGibson replied to Yoshi648's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is an interesting discussion for me, because I'm sorely tempted to take the time visiting home to embark on the Great Rebuild of 2010. I'm about two months out of my Dark Age and I know I have a bunch of smallish sets buried and sprinkled about the parents house, all exploded and mingled and uncatalogued. Over the holidays, thanks to the magic of Peeron and online instructions, I'm going to attempt to gather and rebuild the majestic Cosmic Fleet Voyager [6985] to celebrate what I assume would be the 23rd anniversary of me getting the set. But I'm also fairly certain at least 30 to 40% of the pieces will be absent. I guess I'm gonna have to get new ones for replacement. -
At least two, last time I was there.

Can LEGO be damaged by heat/cold extremes?
IAmWillGibson replied to Hyun's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well with the wind it's apparently -25 outside right now where I am [Toronto], but inside the trunk it'd obviously be ignoring the wind. Still, it can get -30 around here, and I'm sure I'm not in the coldest place among some folks on here. However, seeing as how the pieces are in box and not assembled, I can't see how the plastic shrinking due to temperature [which I'm assuming is what would happen] could be dangerous for the pieces, really. Unless some other mysterious process occurs. I'm hardly a scientist, afterall.- 77 replies

Oh no, I need to keep my beads pealed for Series 3... I've been quite able to find S2 pretty much everywhere I look, but I'm pretty paranoid about S3 for some reason. Probably fear of the demand/supply yo-yo. Either way, we shall see when Chapters gets 'em. I only ever saw 2 packets at TRU.

I dunno what it is about Christmas, but it makes me think of doom and gloom! Not really. Seeing Brick Wild's MOC a few threads back reminded me of one I'd made that I never submitted to public ridicule, so keeping with the happiness of the season, here's my Spooky Cemetery, part of my Spookytown TM collection. These are intended to compliment the more ghoulish Minifigs that LEGO lets trickle out now and again. I'm also a bit of a design minimalist, trending towards a "LEGO coulda made that" aesthetic rather than the really artistic stuff many of you guys do. Either way, it was made in LDD and then ordered through DesignByMe [the one and only time... it's cool as anything, but insanely expensive]. More thoughts on all of that, as well as some real-life pictures of the set, can be seen here. (I hope that's not a breach of protocol by linking that. Sorry if it is.) Anyway, here's the whole thing in digital. I'll pat myself on the back for getting a spiderweb in there despite LDD's limitations. Here's some of the details. And the Mausoleum at the back has some features. It's pretty low, so you'd have to hunch, but there are secrets inside that our investigators wanna find.
