Ooh, new question: do PF trains need the IR controller thing? Or is the IR part of it that an additional module or whatever? If it's not abundantly clear, I've never ventured into this category of LEGO. I'm sort of trying to figure out the minimum you'd need to add to the Emerald Night to get it to do a circle under its own power, 'cause there's a lot of "just add this" on the shop.lego site.

So quick primer for my own numb brain: New trains currently count as "RC," correct? Previous to this was 9V, which were powered track, I guess? But were the same scale [or gauge? I dunno the right term] so the tracks are compatible. I think. At least as far as physical connections and/or a non-powered train is concerned. And before that were the 12v or blue/grey single track things, which look... probably somewhat more complicated than I'm ready for, and/or incompatible. I think I almost have a handle on this.

Thanks, dude... I think I can crunch some of those numbers down and figure it out. I know the flex track is frowned upon, but as a starter-outer, I think I'll grab one of the track kits and just work with that for a bit. I'd like the Switching Tracks kit for variation, too, but it depends on the budget. I feel trains can get real pricey, real quick.

Hello Train folk! I've yet to venture into the wilds of LEGO Trains, but I think I may start, soon, but gingerly. I've convinced myself I need to get a train for the annual Christmas display, and the Emerald Night looks like it'll fit the bill splendidly. Now, I see it doesn't come with any track, which is where my question comes from. I've no real intention at this juncture to motorize the thing [eventually... eventually] but I'm wondering how much basic track, number of parts and which, I would need to build a simple oval to go around the Winter Village, an area of probably... no more than 6 square feet. Closer to 4, I'd guess. Forgive me if this is an insultingly simplistic question, but I dunno how big the average track chunk is, so it makes it hard to budget out how many of, say 7499 you'd need [or whatever is recommended]. Thanks for the help!

So I'm sort of in an awkward situation here now, in that I think I'd like to sell my Minifigure set from the Fairview opening, but I don't wanna be a scalper 'cause I hate those dudes. But on the other hand, it's sorta the first and only thing of "value" I've ever had that I'm willing to sell. So what's a good price to set? High enough that I'm not robbing myself, but not so high that I'm robbing anyone else? And not so high that it'd not actually sell, either. Looking at it right now, I think I'd like to get, say, the VW van for it? Or is that extravagant and piratey? I have no head for business.

It is strange that I really want an Ego Leonard minifigure? With some stickers it shouldn't be that hard. Also one of those t-shirts he's selling on the website, although I can't decipher how to actually order it.

Aww nertz, I just got the "get this brick!" postcard in the mail today! I could have added to my Star Wars Duplo collection.

Maybe that was the dude I saw buy stuff and then grab stuff and get back in the buy line before more people out in line got a chance to come in... Woulda been a good policy to try and prevent that, but I dunno how you'd police a thing like that. But maybe I'm not allowed to say anything, because the lady friend was with me, and she got the advent calender, and as such I now have two of the aforementioned minifig sets. I guess I'm part of the problem. But hey, if I sell the set, the proceeds go into the wedding fund, 'cause technically I'd be selling her set. I'm not selling mine, yo. In any case, it's a lovely store. Feels a bit bigger than the Sherway store, and the build-a-fig bar had guys from series 2 in there. Pretty sure I saw Vampire parts. So no hope in Zombies being released this way, I guess, but an army of vampires might be possible. I'm looking forward to going back when it's a little less crazy so I can get a better look at the built stuff in those bubbles. I love that stuff.

I went as well, bought more than I was supposed to, but got the minifigs so all is well. Now... really, what's with the dude on the BL selling, what, 5 of these, at 175 bucks each? Might they sell anywhere near that? Yowzers. [And how did he get 5 of them?] I opened mine [blasphemy!!] and noticed, somewhat oddly, that the heads on 2 of the three [beardo and woman] do not feature holes in the heads like most other modern figure heads. I saw the same thing in about half of the heads that came in the Post Office. Strange, strange, strange.

Has anyone been to the Fairview or Sherway store in the last few days and noticed they were selling the wedding cake topper kit? I mean, it's less pressing now that there's a bride in Series7, but I still needs me somethin' like that within the next year. Hopefully I can rally the troops and make an early showing at the Fairview opening this Saturday.

I'm getting the hot tub, and I don't care who knows it. I really hope, though, that the hair is transferable. I want new hair styles, especially curly, which there is a dearth of among the minifigure community.

I can't help but sorta wish some of the rangers vs. bandits sets had been... split, maybe? I like the mine entrance and the bee hive and the little details there, but I don't like the dog truck. I love the newest set there [sort of seems inexplicably called the command center as it looks more like the backwoods meth lab], but I may have preferred it had it been 10 bucks cheaper and not had the ranger truck in it. I understand the niceness for the kids of having a built-in story line from the get-go, but there's something to be said as well for getting a cop set and a robber set to go with it. And it woulda made it cheaper for me, who only wants the robber halves of these sets. Still, 4438 [and the camper trailer] are both 100% buys for me. They'll go exquisitely with the cabin and the lighthouse and the RV in the wonderful little summer camping sub-sub-theme LEGO has been slowly squeaking out over the last few years.
-
It looks so good... I have the first two, gotten mid summer, so they've not been officially constructed yet. Sadly I don't think I'll be able to afford the Post Office in time for this winter, but, again, hopefully I can nab it on sale during the off-season and have it in time for next year. But I'm not too upset, because I don't have a good shelf or anywhere to put the full village anyways. It demands a place of respect.
-
They're... glued? Uggggh, why? I went from really wanting week 2 and 3 to not really giving a hoot.

I hafta say, I'm sort of interested in the Friends line, IF the hair proves workable. Proper curly hair is something that just doesn't exist, which is no good when you're trying to convince the wife LEGO is good by making a minifig of her.... which has the wrong hair style. Some of these haircuts look right on the money, if they fit. I think the hot tub might be a lock, because it's got hair that looks almost perfect, and is a small set that's pretty painlessly folded into a standard LEGO collection. I remain... hopeful.

How about a theme based on Halloween/Horror?
IAmWillGibson replied to bsmith13's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I would be SO into this if it happened. Heck, it's the vague promise of this that pulled me back into LEGO: the Zombie and Vampire minifigs. One of the first things I did last year when the cobwebs were clearing was order myself a [ludicrously expensive, in retrospect] cemetery through DesignByMe. I mean... I would love it. I doubt enough others would in order to make it something you'd see LEGO put into stores. But the last two years they've had the mini seasonal sets, so they're aware of the holiday, and there is [or at least was] a fairly steady presence in the CMFs. I'd love an exclusive Haunted House built to the Modular level, though. That would be really very cool. -
Maybe I'm out of my element here, because you guys really seem to know what you're talking about, but IS Alien Conquest a "Space" theme? I mean, yeah... aliens come from space. But the sets are firmly terrestrial. It's more a modified City theme. Or, rather, part of the nebulous "action" category [which themselves are generally arguably modified City themes as well. You can't really consider any of the ADU vehicles to be space vehicles, because they're not. Having said all that... I'm waiting patiently for a set featuring a half-destroyed farmhouse and some cows on fire.

Raptor Chase is 30 bucks? Good gravy. Maybe I'll have to wait for a later wave to get that kickin' raptor figure in better numbers at a better price [without the big ol' truck I'm only so-so on]. But the figures, the more I look at them, the more I like them. The Adventures dinos were nice, and very 'LEGO,' but rather small and, you know, monochrome. The Dinosaurs dinos were decent in their brick-builtedness and seeming attempt at some sort of scientific quasi-accuracy, but were... lacking, to say the least. The Dino Attack dinos were nice and big, but way too Playmobil. But these new ones sort of hit every note right on the nose. I'm very jonsed. Almost jonsed enough to entertain the idea of getting one of the bigger sets, which I almost never do.

I'm going to need to get one of these before this time next year, for fairly obvious reasons. If someone comes across one, or finds a source within Canada, I'd be psyched, as the price quoted there is perfectly lovely, but I fear what it might end up at on Bricklink. Do these "Legoland" items show up at Lego stores?
-
I love the trailer. The RV was sorta the set that pulled me back into LEGO last year, and this one looks great. I really like the whole woodsey angle, and I'd love if they did some campground stuff. It might not be the most compelling building experience, but a campfire, a tree, a tent and a bear would be a swell little set. Mostly 'cause I want that bear, but I know I'm not gonna invest in the full police station.

For the dudes wishing for a brick-built T-Rex.. I mean, it's probably not coincidental that LEGO also happens to be releasing that very thing in the Creator line. Looking at the two, I prefer the figure version to the brick one in the grand scheme, but, I mean, if you wanted a brick-built Dino, the creator one is what it'd look like. 'Cause... that's what it is. It's convergence, man.

I really like the snake men. Like, quite a bit, actually. Only cruddy thing is I want the cool, long-tailed one, and they only seem to come in sets I have no interest in. Which, sadly, is most of them. I'm sure I'll bite the bullet on a couple, because the figures are nice, but I really have no interest in the vehicles. Guess it's off to Bricklink for Yig and his Serpent Men. Funny thing about the brick-brick: people really seem to like it, but it's so...dare I say it... Mega Bloky?

It's a rifle with a clip on top, that appears in most cases to hold a syringe. Hence me calling it a tranq gun. Unless there's another one in there too.
-
I like the T-Rex, but I don't like the rest of the set [i'm not big on vehicles and whatnot, especially the "actiony" stuff]. Although I'm certainly getting the two smaller sets with the Raptory dinos in them. Those guys look hot, and that'd give me enough of the other bits to have a proper feel for the line, including those cute tranq guns.
