Thanks for review. I'm still thinking about buying or not buying this set, and it's useful info) Now i'm still thinking...

Not only LEGO, USSR also had version of Meccano, i had it too. Yep, i like technic a lot, started with 42009 about half year ago. My wife involved too, but she making houses and castles. And yes - today is much more easier to obtain LEGO here in Moscow. Don't know about all Russia)

Hello, my name is Anton. I realized that i didn't introduce myself yet, but already started a topic and post some replies. Now it's time to introducing) I live in Moscow, Russia. Long time ago my mother buy me fake LEGO, soviet union version) I played it and enjoy, and then mother buy me another fake LEGO, some kind of old technic with bricks. And long time ago i wanted real LEGO so much, but never had. 20 or 25 years passed since then and i now i can buy real LEGO and play with it, finally) But i'm not enjoy playing with LEGO anymore. I just want to make old dream true. And spending money for something that i can keep and use somehow for a long time is relaxing too. May be it all looks like a sad story, but it's not) Now LEGO it's a tool for keep my brains working. I hope this will lead me somewhere. I registered here when TC7 was anounced, i felt some kind of inspiration about it.... Thanks for reading this and sorry for bad english)

I will make most of common technic details. Maybe i will do more, i dont know yet. Decals it's a problem, but it can be solved somehow. Most of bricks with decals doesn't need to have advanced geometry - easy solution, but not final.

BR load some vertex and triangles data from files with ".g" extension contained within db.lif. If i replace file "32063.g" with "4519.g" - BR will render part 4519 instead of part 32063. And BR can process geometry not only from this strange ".g" format, but from ".obj" too. But when BR rendering lego parts - BR load this ".g" files. If BR will search not for only ".g", but for ".obj" too, when BR loading parts 3d data - we can make our own 3d models for all the parts. With seams, logo-on-studs, and more detailed e t.c.
-
The question is - how BR uses 3d data from db.lif file. When model contains part number XXXX, BR search within db.lif for file named XXXX.g and get all the vertices and triangles from there. db.lif doens't contain any subprimitives. At least i don't find any. If BR will search for XXXX.obj prior to XXXX.g - problem will logo-on-studs and brick seams and softer endings of technic axles will solved quickly by redrawing all LDD parts)
-
But i don't need to import one single mesh into scene. I want to redraw parts, not add something, but replace. And not for one render, but for all of them)
-
Understood) If BR can render OBJ without UVs, and i can change decals with my own png's - maybe it's possible to change primitives with my own OBJ's?
-
I can model parts from scratch, no need to export something. Question is - how to use these obj instead of default in BR then?
-
Real lego parts have small chamfers, while LDD uses simplified versions. It cause renders to look flat in some places. I wonder if it's possible to use custom 3d models of parts instead of simplified ones.

This is transparent wheel rim) Four of them in 76042 and just one in 75040. Both sets are new, it's not something rare. But this set is really expensive) -
Great renderer, thanks to author. One thing i miss now is more polygonal parts, like axles with curved ends. Maybe it's possible to use my own custom models for some bricks instead of models from LDD?
