Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think the lead time for Modulars - design, testing, production, marketing and release - would be years. LEGO’s only other option would have been no Modular in 2021. A few changes to the facade, gutting / replacing the interior and losing the police officers could relatively easily MOD it into a court house, museum, library, etc. -

Just holding cells for cookie smugglers, money launderers and doughnut thieves before they’re transferred elsewhere. It’s okay to me. -

I can’t even figure out what their accessory is? Maybe a police dog trainer and the ... fishing rod type thing is related to that? Except it doesn’t seem to include a police dog. Maybe it’s a thief using that accessory to pilfer doughnuts? -

The criminals are driving the GWP car! Odd that a police station wouldn’t include a police car. Unless it’s just not shown in this picture? -

Thanks for sharing Brettski. I like it, but the buildings on either side are extremely narrow. I’m going to have to see better pics to determine how ... challenging using such narrow builds will be with adult sized hands. I would have preferred a single purpose, impressive / grand police station. -

I’d be very happy with a Modular Police Station - if it looks good. Will the GWP car be criminals being chased by police perhaps? -

So ... art gallery / art supply store (?), cafe / restaurant / small eatery AND a townhouse? Or townhouse style architecture / facade? -

An art gallery / museum (with cafe / restaurant (?)) sounds okay. A more classical facade also sounds good. -

I think Friends experimented with interiors / rooms packs? I’d intended to grab some to help furnish the Cafe Corner, but they came and went pretty quickly. I’m not opposed to add-ons for Modulars, but they need to be easily available. I missed the flower cart for the DO and the ... statue (?) for the BB. I think there was another one? And we have the winning AFOL designed car coming up, although that probably won’t tie into the next Modular directly. -

Same for me. I’m happy with a suggestion on the interiors, with a bit more detail where the inside is easily viewed through large windows. The Green Grocer is probably the best balance for me. The grocer is more detailed - since you can see inside through the windows. And the apartment is ... suggested, but easy enough for a fan to finish if they wanted to. -

I’m no Lego designer, but for a starter, they could have ditched the kitchen in the Detective’s Office if it wasn’t necessary for baking cookies for smuggling. A random kitchen above a barber which you have to pass through to get to an office doesn’t make much sense to me. Perhaps the barber could have been increased - I find it very hard getting an adult hand in the barbershop to pose mini figures in the chair. Or maybe the detective could have had a tiny apartment accessible through his office? For the bank, hopefully the vault could have been fully enclosed. And, I’d ditch the laundry completely - if the money laundering storyline is removed, and focus on making a single purpose, grander bank. It’s not solely the “play features” which I don’t like, but the additions necessary for the forced storylines - cookie smuggling and money laundering. A play feature like money coming from an ATM in the bank makes sense to me (except for the quasi early 1900s setting of the Modulars). -

100% agree. The build (interior or exterior) should not be compromised for such “story” elements. They can save those things for other themes. -

I’d love to see a single purpose building, whether police station, cottage hospital, post office, school, library, museum, apartment building, etc. -
Whoa! I’ve never appreciated how massive these builds were before. That photo with a mini figure great. I like Savage Red Sonja (hopefully she shows up in Netflix’s new live action Conan series). The fur texture on the wolf cloak is well done. I’m not sold on her facial expression. It could be more ... savage!

LEGO Creator 2021 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Fingers crossed the Surfer Beachhouse is a return to form for Creator 3 in 1 residential buildings, that is, FULLY enclosed instead of being open-backed (like the recent Toy Store and Townhouse) or *technically* enclosed, but intended to be displayed Lego City style (like the Park Street Townhouse). -

In their review of the Bookshop (https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-creator-expert-10270-bookshop-review/), Brick Fanatics brought up an interesting point about what the re-branding from Creator Expert to 18+ could mean for future Modulars. I presume that the lead-time for the development of the Modulars is greater than for the recent re-branding (i.e. the next one or two Modulars probably won't be impacted by the re-branding, because they would have already been designed and green-lit for production with the Creator Expert label in mind). The recent Fairground Collection (Haunted House) and Winter Villager (Elf Clubhouse) releases don't seem to have been impacted by the re-brand, except in terms of their packaging. But, it's interesting to think about whether the apparent move to appeal to AFOLs will result in any changes. Will the focus on "storyline" and "playability" decrease? Will the focus change to "display value" with bigger, more ornate facades / exteriors taking precedence over heavily detailed interiors? Will the interiors actually be big enough and not so cluttered to accommodate adult hands? Will we see any change in the types of buildings (i.e. those which may appeal to more adult sensibilities)? Or perhaps everything will stay the same, except Modulars will come in black boxes? -

I agree. But, that doesn't really seem to be Lego's modus operandi. They could definitely tease new reveals for "known" upcoming releases (e.g. annual Modular vs. "surprise D2C") by posting photos of the minifigures, accessories, mini-builds, glimpses of architectural details on the facade, etc. -
[MOC] Old townhouse and a cozy restaurant (modular building)

Very nice! The brick built front door is an awesome detail. I also like the three different roofing materials and the use of exposed "studs" as a decorative detail in various places across the facades of the buildings. -
Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
Agent 86 replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I'm somewhat pleased to see a "Modern Family House" and "City Centre" in Lego City. This gives me hope that the houses and commercial buildings in the "Creator 3 in 1" line will return to being fully enclosed builds and the houses and commercial buildings in Lego City will be the traditional open-back. I didn't understand or appreciate the move to open-back builds in the "Creator 3 in 1" line, so perhaps there will be a clearer distinction with Lego City going forward. -

I hope that the Surfer Beach House is comparable to 4996 (Beach House) or 7346 (Seaside House)! -
Very cool. Such a humanoid shape from square bricks!

It's a sweatshop, not a clubhouse. And those aren't elves, they're small, enslaved children!

I hope we hear some rumours of new residential or commercial buildings in the Creator Expert line soon! It was a shame we missed out with the last wave. I'm hoping that it means we'll get something sizeable ... maybe even fully enclosed! -
Where are the people? There's just an abandoned baby in a carriage and a puppy!
