[The Frozen Beyond Cat. B] Attack of the Ice Dragon!
Exetrius replied to Blaze's topic in Guilds of Historica
Probably the most icy-looking beins that has been entered in the contest! The main body is almost one big ice-cube but it looks good. The head and clawed feet look very menacing! Also, you put good effort into the base, with a big surface, nice rock spikes and the split-up of the path. Af few points of criticism: the wing tips on which the creature leans and the points of articulation around the shoulders and upper legs look a little unrefined. Maybe you could cover them up with some white (SNOT) pieces? Impressive build overall! -
[The Frozen Beyond - Cat. B] Nemesis of the Frozen Beyond
Exetrius replied to Exetrius's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thank you all! @The Steward the helmet is from Nexo Knights, it's the Ash Attacker's. This theme also provided the eyes: two crossbow bolts from the Ultimate Aaron set, as well as that book, shield and Onicius' shoulder pads. Fun fact: Onicius plus Garufust alone use parts from 20 different sets! -
Interesting mini-site, now we finally know what the Wu Cru is!
-
Incredible work! Just so different from anything else I have seen, outstanding!

I really like your mod! The original set didn't really appeal to me, because it was a rather unsignifiying execution of the 'evil sorcerer tower' concept. But you turned it into a substantial small fortress and it you did a great job on that. The added walls and a gate are very effective

[The Frozen Beyond - Cat. B] Nemesis of the Frozen Beyond
Exetrius replied to Exetrius's topic in Guilds of Historica
Added new pictures and the wizard is no longer nameless! Thank you! I actually started this build with the cabin, in order to get a proper sense of the scale that I wanted the final creature to be. The idea alone of making a beast large enough to support a cabin excited me very much. Thanks, Garmadon! I certainly like things that are a little different. I didn't want my creature to be all white with trans light blue, so I added black and trans/spring light green for extra contrast. For me, it works as being a creature of the Frozen Beyond. I wanted to shine a light on the the Algus business from a different angle, but in case my story does not fit into the saga canon, I consider this to be a legendary beast ridden by an Algus general. Oh, and I do not recommend doing this if you have more people living around you, they will think you are out of your mind for working from sunset to sunrise Next time, I should start earlier! -
[The Frozen Beyond, Cat B] The Great Northern Ankylos

I like its most prominent feature, the icy scales on the back and its eyes like approriately resistent. I'm really digging your story, quite unique! -
[The Frozen Beyond - Cat. C] Pitfall Immobilization
Exetrius replied to Exetrius's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yep, you got that right! Thanks! (I did manage to enter another one!) Thanks guys! The splashes were the main unique idea behind it, because lava pools have been done many times before. I had this image in mind of an Algus, falling from a few hundred meters and splashing at the lava surface, with a ripple wave around the impact and globs of solidifying lava in the air. The motion did not turn out quite as epic as that image, but I'm glad the splashing effect is clear Thanks for your comment! -

Well that's a good portion of insanity indeed! I have a soft spot for big, odd, medieval thing on wheels and this is no exception! Everyting in this scene and in your builds here seems to work out perfectly, it looks alive, with al it's motion and the sounds that are all captured in brick. Outstanding work, Jacob!- 28 replies

[The Frozen Beyond Cat B] Frost Wolf Hunt
Exetrius replied to LordDan's topic in Guilds of Historica
I'd say the new wolf is definately an improvement over the old one, looks much more agressive and sleeker, really nice. The most spectacular part is that firewall, wow! all the rest is executed nicely as well, such as the irregular base and the Kalphalin (?) mages. Excellent fire vs ice build!- 15 replies

Cat. B Nemesis of the Frozen Beyond -
Nemesis of the Frozen Beyond Warning: this backstory might clash with the canon of the Frozen Beyond. If so, I'm sorry! Long time ago, the Algus were a peaceful race with their own civilization. The area they inhabited, now known as the Frozen Beyond, was less frigid as it is today. But one day, an Algus wizard named Garufust, created a being which had the power to absorb energy of mana crystals by eating them. Once he could keep the creature alive, he began feeding it with meat and crystals, consequently growing bigger and stronger rapidly. Its demand for meat and enriched crystals soon became unmanageable for the wizard to gather. That was when he made a second big discovery: rune crystals that convert heat into arcane energy, mana. They could be grown inside the body of an Algus once implanted, as well as growing inside the generations to follow. This discovery lead him to imprison a number of other Algus, which he would use as live-stock for the creature's needs. However, these escaped after being implanted with the special crystals... In the decades that followed, the Frozen beyond became colder and colder, as the number of 'hybrid' Algus increased. The creature, which suffered from malnutrition ever since the prisoner escape, turned into a dormant state. After a very long slumber, the creature awoke, with a massive appetite! In all those years, the Frozen Beyond had become a hunting ground full of hybrids! Hundreds of Algus have been devoured by it. With every one of them, it grew bigger and more powerful. It did not last long until its existence become known throughout the entire Frozen Beyond, fearfully being called "Nemesis of the Beyond". As a result, whole waves of Algus fled to the other regions of Historica, in the hope to escape the beast that is hunting them, ruled by its creator... I am glad I made it! Pictures are hasty and unedited, maybe I can do that later, but at the moment, I want to sleep! I started this build from scratch in the afternoon yesterday (Dutch time) and worked on it straight through the night up to now, so yeaahh..... I'm tired! Anyway, I am super happy with the result and I hope to take clearer pics later. More pictures to be found here! EDIT: I realized the quality of the images above is actually quite alright, this is a hard one to photograph in its full glory Nevertheless, a few extra shots: Full speed mode engaged! About to take a nosedive. Every self-respecting flying creature master rides in style, in a comfortable cabin. And though 'Nemesis' may be strong, Garufust always brings his heavy-duty weapons. Two legends... in serious mode! (this is just a bonus, not part of the entry) C&C is greatly appreciated!

I don't see the humor in this. I hate to say this, but this is just plain bad. No texture or detailing whatsoever, no nice presentation even, just some empty plates and a few stacks of standard bricks in layout LDD view. I know there are amazing and less amazing builders for Historica, but everyone shares a dedication and passion for what they are making and what they are contributing to this role play universe. We learn from each others builds, by observing, reproducing and ultimately innovating with bricks. You don't have to be good from the start, but your attitude plays a key role in developing yourself. And therefore, I advise you to try harder! Sorry for the rant, but view this as constructive criticism.

My first entry: Cat C. Pitfall Immobilization (I hope more to come soon!) -
Pitfall Immobilization In the infernal abyss the Algus are still a rare sight, but they sometimes fall from the sky. Certain people are throwing them into the abyssal pits from the surface. "So, according to my calculations, when the lava is this hot, the pit is that deep and the cooling capacity per hourglass reversal of the Algus creature is like this..." *pushes the Algus over the edge* "... it will exactly dive with it's head into the lava!" "Sir, we have confirmation from down below! The creature is immobilized with it's head into solidified rock." "Excellent, I think they can handle it from here!" So, my this is my first challenge entry for the Frozen Beyond contest and also my first lava-themed build. The photography did not really turn out as good as I want it to be for the overview, in real life the lava has a nicer glow to it, but anyway, it was fun. I do intend on doing another build for the contest today, I hope I can manage that! As usual, C&C very appreciated!

The sharp dichotomy of your build is spectacular! It does not really make sense how the two sides have a different architecture, but heck, the snow part looks awesome! The out-of-the-box snow fan looks nice too.

Well, that's true, I partly asked him out of curiosity for his builds I'd like to know, is there a big, planned out storyline for the Algus? You see, am I allowed to have a character and beast that have (had) kind of a major role in the development of the Algus? -

Does anyone have a close-up look of the blue book included in Axl's Tower Carrier?
-
Thanks for the heads-up! It was actually in my YouTube feed, but I thought I would have seen al the content already, guess I was wrong! I love the fact that the two 'box-set-exclusive' dragon shield inlays are now available in the Ultimates, must-buy them!
