  1. I'd like to know how the "HMS Hell Hound" would of faired in this poll but as it was not nominated I guess it's not a contender. so that aside 9. Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion Builder: Bonaparte & Captain Green Hair = 2 points Type: Spanish Imperial Galleon 10. French Navy Xebec Builder: Bonaparte & Captain Green Hair = 2 points Type: Xebec 15. Vesta Builder: Admiral Croissant = 2 points Type: French 20 gun frigate 16. 3. I don't really MOC much out side Pirates and I was playing around with some landscape for my comic and got a little side tracked .... so I thought I'd share. hope this is the right place to post??
  4. the rigging is made from tread use for tapestry or cross stitch, and the rat lines are cotton tread that is doubled up to thicken them. the shrouds (vertical) are doubled over and twisted then the rat lines are sewn in with a needle by hand to avoid countless knot tying. Hemp would be awesome for this as alot of rope was crafted from that back in the day ( adding to the realism). cheers for the comments guys. ps will chuck up a pic soon of the spanker sail rigged the right way .... old habits die hard. there we go..
  5. rigging didn't take that long there are only about a dozen knots the rest is weaved together, heaps faster will do a tutorial if people are interested. and no it's not a safe but it could be .... it's supposed to be a wood heater/stove.
  6. Your 200 blue coats will put a good dent in your $2000..... I hope you have your cannons already cause they are not cheap either, but it sounds as though you know what your getting yourself into. look forward to seeing your moc's as they evolve and glad to see your a pirate fan and a blue coat one at that and welcome to the forums . ps. you cant access much at all untill you have a few more posts but given time you'll get to change all that jazz.
  7. yes the capstan works, was working below deck but was too hard to access so I moved it to the top deck.
  8. 176A here it is finished.....for now. Info: Name: HMS HELL HOUND Ship Type: Brig of war Commander:Captain Blocksworth Home port: New Brickston Cannons: 7 broadside + 2 on bow(chasers) Alignment: Blue-Coat Crew: 5 sailors 5 marines 3 soldiers Length: 85 studs (tip to tip) Hight : 65 studs Width : 16 studs (widest deck surface) fun fact: over 270 brown tiles were used in the build, total brick count unknown almost 2000 at a guess. Special thanks to Admiral Croissant and Captain Zuloo for constant feedback and on going support though out the build and to all those who have served as inspiration, Captain Green Hair among others. so happy with it I just bought a 7 mid section hull for my next ship.
  9. to see the final build vist the Hell-Hound that's where she'll be ..... soon
  10. oh look I lied it's been updated
  11. "The Hell Hound"comic will not be updated till the new year ....sorry. but here's a card from the crew.
  12. cheers for all the positive feed back, as thoughs photos don't do them justice . check them out at Classic-Pirates moc's
  13. here's some more. "patients is a virtue possess it if you can, seldom found in women but never in a man".
  14. as promised.... the first instalment more when I have time... but should be quite large by the end.
  15. looks more like this. Known as the broard arrow this symbol appeared on Australian convict uniforms. The Broad Arrow is a symbol used as a royal mark on government stores. It was the cognisance of Viscount Sydney, Earl of Romney, who was the master- general of the Ordnance from 1693 to 1702, and this is where it originates from. So I guess the symbol means "property of the Crown" Top decals !!
  16. here's some more pics of the first two attempts. needs a lot of refining before I'll be happy to add it to my collection as I'm a bit of a purist but trying to get over that hang up. the part I find hardest is just how much detail to add, too much detail makes it look non LEGO but not enough looks silly trying to find a good medium. let me know what you think and apart from being smoother/glossy what I need to add/change. cheers
  17. ah yes it all ends in tears looks as though those redcoats copped a whooping from the mighty blues. I hope that Blocksworth isn't going to shoot "Fugazi" in all the comotion... I'm sure they're just compairing weapons mid battle, because blue coats are that awesome they can afford to have a little chat in the heat of battle and still come out victorious. Well done.
  18. after seeing the amazing custom hair piece buy "dirk72" I thought I'd have a crack seeing as I had the materials on hand. not painted yet and its only a first draft but has some potential.
  19. some new sails, still working on them though.. and the gun deck is done minus a few small details.
  20. for stiffer sails try cotton shirt ( thin ) and add starch to stiffen.
  21. Cheers "Z" for the comments, I've moved the catheads right up to the front of the deck ( 3 studs ), I can't do much with the shrouds as they are all tied in and the ship steps out 1/2 a stud right after where they join so cant even get a stud movment there, but will remember that for my next one. will have a play with the white lines from the headrails to the cabin too. updates soon. and have begun writing the story/comic to introduce they ship.
  22. Cheers guys, re-rigged the "spanker" to the top yard, as for the sloop facing the wrong way.... it doesn't really fit the other way around, I will try re-positioning the whole set up so that it faces the right way. I'm glad you've accepted Blocksworth's invitation It'll be a hoot, (despite the fact my pastries are sub-standard, And the Admiral will be in safe hands aboard the "Hell Hound".
  23. Gun deck is starting to take shape
  24. Haha the plot thinins indeed! looking very good, and I got a camio yay!!. So does it all go pear shaped?? I guess we'll wait and see.
  25. another little update, rat lines are done now, and capstan is working. and my favourite Like BrickTango said looks the best this way. so that's the outside pretty much done just missing a few ropes here and there but not far away. starting work on gun deck as soon as parts arrive. For my first attempt at a prefab hull ship I'm pretty happy with it, and my next one will be a lot easier now I have some experience.
