Nicely done! To be fair, real-life crabs often have similar pincer proportions.
-
My guess is Ekimu and Makuta aren't from the six main tribes; either they belong to an unknown seventh tribe (which might be affiliated to abstract concepts such as Creation and Control) or they belong to another species entirely that precedes the Islanders.

For some reason, I think LOSS should shout "Beware!" somewhere in that scene. And talk about boxes. Some people said they would shoot their own face, or shoot something out of their mouths; maybe it's a new version of the mask-popping gimmick misintepreted as a launcher? Also, I hope Umarak turns out to have worn and battered armor add-ons (or at least battle-worn prints like in IFB), to give the impression he's an experienced hunter who's accustomed to exploring the wilderness and facing dangerous beasts.

Here's a though, based on a discarded idea from G1 : maybe the Hunter (and perhaps Kulta) are part of a cult that worships the corrupted Makuta...a "Brotherhood of Makuta" of sorts .
-
For the Creatures, I'm guessing Melum is different from the others given he's in a "Unity" set: either the other Creatures are agressive/under Umarak's control and he befriends the Toa first, or they are imprisoned by Umarak and he is saved by the Toa before being captured. Also, maybe the Toa aren't meant to unite with the Creatures, but unite the Creatures themselves (either as a pack/team or as an actual combiner model). And for everyone worried about Kopaka's size: wasn't Kulta the same size as the tallest Toa this year? Although to be fair he had less armor to compensate

Yeah, that part bothers me too. I mean, it sounds less like "Masks of Elemental Powers" and more like "Masks of Battle Mode Activation". Either that or more active villagers. Something like the Koro Guards from Mata Nui or the Voya Nui Resistance Team would be nice.

Mere recolors seem unlikely, since it might seem too unimaginative (though it might work for the intended audience...). Remakes of the Nuva masks could be done, but the 2015 masks also seem to take a little from them (especially Gali's), so they need to be careful to differentiate the two sets of masks. My guess is completely new molds (for example, elemental-looking masks), but with superficial similarities to the ones from G2's first year to maintain the character's identity, kinda like the Hero Factory helmets after Breakout. On a sidenote, I'd like to see them try some toy concepts from G1 that were sadly axed (Toa of Shadow, Baterra, cyborg dinosaurs...).

Actually, I think that's a black Skull Spider, used to represent a generic villain/dark force. Either that or it's the unseen MoUP. That'd be awesome.

I liked the Bohrok for three main reasons: a) they had an interesting, unusual appearance; b) they turned out to be not really villains but misguided; and c) I love anything that transforms. I'd also like to see the Vahki (for reasons a) and c)), but they're probably too sci-fi and dystopian for G2 anyway. I don't expect G2 to be merely a revamp of G1 (especially after this year's Summer wave), nor would I want it to be that way. I just want to see, alongside new characters and concepts, more nods to the original line; so far we've only got the Toa, Makuta and the Mask of Creation (and perhaps the Mask of Time).

Yes, please! Especially if it includes soft rubber "skin" pieces like the Piraka's spines.

Umm...where's the picture?

Doesn't anyone find it strange there's no information on the MoCr in Ekimu's character page?

It was in one of the web serials. "Destiny War", chapter 9 (you can read it in Biosector01). Now back on topic, I'd definitely like to see more CCBS-sized mechas or vehicles. And more Okoto fauna.

True, but that doesn't mean the heroes can't have more variety. And we could distiguish them anyway with subtle visual cues: the "heroic" non-humans could have friendlier features, smoother edges and soothing or heroic colors, while the "villain" monsters could have rougher edges, an agressive or predatorial look and more menacing colors. And, of course, names. Now this, I don't agree. Fictional species often serve as a metaphor for real-life diversity, so we should give them the same capacity for good and evil we give humans. After all, if we keep telling kids that everything different from a "normal" human is irredeemably evil, how willing do you think they will be to respect real cultures and ethnicities other than their own? That being said, you're right in the end: some real-life groups need better representation. Good point. And the Anacondrai were painted rather heroically in season four (it was the human Master Chen and his human Anacondrai cultists that were painted as villains), so your argument is even stronger. And that there were no human crooks. I mean, even the earlier versions had the Blacktron faction. There was also Krika, who didn't really agree with Teridax's plan (and in fact tried to prevent its completion sometimes) and longed for his days as a protector, but went along anyway because he figured they were doomed no matter the outcome; the Bohrok and the Vahki, who were merely following their function (cleaning Mata Nui's face/upholding the law in Metru Nui), but Teridax took advantage of that and used them as an obstacle for the Toa (in fact, the Toa once used the Bohrok in a similar way to protect Metru Nui from an invasion); and the Skrall army, who had no inkling of what was going on in the Matoran Universe and were trying to conquer Bara Magna after fleeing their killer-robot-infested lands (but they were too arrogant and brutal to be tragic. Not to mention misognystic). As for unlikable "heroes", there's also murderous extremist Tuyet (who later was imprisoned) and cheating, greedy mercenay Strakk (who later was banished). But I'm more of a fan of tragic villains, especially if they become heroes later.

Sweet video! But they still haven't fixed the mask's trans color. I don't have the book (yet), but I think it's too soon to judge on that. After all, this is a trailer; they probably selected the scenes that would make the character (and the set) look cool. In fact, in one scene he puts on the Mask of Air, and in the next he still has the Skull Spider Mask.

Me neither. From what I could gather, though (can a Mixel fan confirm this, please?), it's the Nixels who try to attack them first and the Mixels just retaliate, so I guess they really are heroes. But I wouldn't count either side as "humanoid" except for the loosest sense of the word, anyway. That's a good step in the right direction. Now all we need is to see this translated into sets as well.

I prefer Korgot; she has elbows, and I'm not very fond of weapons that need to be held by both hands.

If they pulled off decent minifigures, I'd like to see playsets of the various temples in Okoto. Another thing LEGO really needs, not only for 2016 BIONICLE but for the other lines as well: non-human heroes. Except for Life on Mars and the occasional robot, every line with humans and non-humans puts the former as heroes and the latter as villains, no matter what they're actually doing. This is hardly only LEGO's fault (for example, Decepticons nowadays are so feral-looking they hardly seem to be the same species as the Autobots), but someone needs to show kids that goodness is not exclusive to normal-looking humans.

I think we're talking about different species here, not different races.

Wait, the whole first year story ends in the first book? But...what about the second? What's that gonna be about? With a name like that it can't be the 2016 story, can it? Also, I think I got how the set naming is going to be: characters that existed in G1 (such as the Toa) use their name and a descriptive title, while characters exclusive to this reboot (the Protectors, the Skull Creatures and Ekimu) get only a title, and may be named in the media if they're not animals or swarm characters. Now I have to wait for Makuta's set to see if I'm right.

The second "swiftly" in the description feels redundant. Other than that, wonderful MOC!

Seconded. Though, this being BIONICLE, those masks probably have powers of their own depending on their shape and name. For example, the Skull Masks might animate humanoid "golems" made of random bones, the Bull Skull Masks might animate more animalistic creations, and the Spider Skull Mask animates actual corpses (at least I'm sticking to it until an official description comes along). On another note, what do you think will be the site updates for the summer? We'll obviously get bios for the Skull Creatures and Ekimu and new webisodes, but what about character videos or a map of the City of Mask Makers?

Actually, his Japanese name is "Convoy", which would basically be just "Truck". And the others would be "Lio Truck", "Big Truck" and so on (which is even worse for Beast Era characters since none of them were trucks). Moving along, I really, really hope the ghosts rumors are just that. Two undead themes in a row feels really weak in originality (especially when they've been explored in Ninjago before, one of them this very year). I'd also like for more rebooted G1 characters; so far we've only seen the Toa and Makuta.
-
Wow, meta-reference! Now I'm starting to warm up to the Skull Creatures. I think it's safe to assume that, unless said otherwise, they're all created by Kulta (love that name ) Or he wanted to awaken the other Skull Creatures before the Toa arrived. As for Makuta, it's understandable: we're accompanying the Toa, and so far all they know is that the Skull Spiders (and later Creatures) are threatening the villagers and they must awaken Ekimu to stop it. Maybe they'll learn more about Makuta after awakening his brother. On a sidenote, Skull Slicer's bio makes me want to see him in a restored form in the future, even if only in the media (but given tons of media-only characters was one of G1's problems, I doubt that'll happen ).
