New MOC - Ferrari Purosangue
Rolic replied to brictric's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks very awesome! Always wanted to build something technic in this scale, but haven't had the time for that... as this is something different from my usual style. In the earlier days I totally skilled technic sets because of the huge gaps between the "wireframe". But now there are some many great panels, that you can build amazing cars without any gap. They become more and more pleasing to the eye. And your's no exception to that! Great work! -
[MOC] Boxer IFV
Rolic replied to Rolic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks. Been a while since I posted here... had to look it up how to embed the pics form other media. But I managed :D Thanks everybody else. Hmm... interesting. I don't have those wheels. Will have to look them up, didn't know they existed (only one set, no suprise there). Maybe you have a picture of these tyres side by side? With stud-length reference for diameter. -
For the last couple of years I've been secretly working on something different than my previous cars and trucks. This here - I present to you Boxer - Infantry fighting vehicle. It's the same scale as my other car MOCs. But boy oh boy - it is a beast compared to those tiny cars. This one here is larger than the famous Abrams tank in real life. So imagine that this one here is like a heavy duty truck. Full with as many details as I could possibly find in the internet. It may sound silly that I mention it so, but... those military vehicle details, especially when it comes to the interior details and gadgets, those pictures are very hard to find. Probably for a good and secure reason, so - can't really blame anyone for that. Would love to see one of these up close in person. Some day, maybe. Till then - enjoy this one. Hope you like it, couse I sure do :) Oh, did I mention? It has all wheels double spring suspension, all wheels drive with PF (2 x XL) and 2 x front axle steering (1 x M). The chapter also says "model team" and this is the scale of the model team series. Therefore I thought this was the right place. But... if there's a more appropriate chapter, then please - feel free to put this in the righteous place :) -
It's been a long time, maybe even too long, since I posted a finished MOC. But here I am, posting again this now good old BMW i8 of mine. It has already seen some exhibitions and received some appreciation. So, let's hope that it will receive some more in this audience ? Enjoy! Full gallery here at flickr.

[WIP] BMW i8
Rolic replied to Rolic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This might be the last work-in-progres picture. Why? Because I'm at that stage where most of the parts are done. Now I'm taking them one-by-one apart and see if I can build those with stronger bricks, add some more studs to connect to, strengthen the insides and stuff like that. So.. see ya in a months maybe with nice and clean pics of the finished product. -

I think I'm done with the exterior. Maybe some bits will get changed as I build the interior structure, but.. in general - this should be it. So now I'll take roof off again and finish what's left for the interior. Rear seats, engine compartment, dash, other bits. I'm getting there. And I really like the outcome. Do you? Tell me - what would you do different? -

Thank you all for the interest You show in my build process. Well.. I think I'll call this "enough, time to move on" with the tail light. Move to the roof. Always wanted to try out a roof out of LEGO Technik elements. It's stronger, leaves no gaps. But it has those curved-in places where the two beams meet. What do you think of this? Of course, the black panel will be replaced with blue one. -

Hahaha... thanks. Yea... it takes a lot of patients to wait till my MOCs are done. I know. I can work on one item for two or more years. But let's hope that this will not be the case. Thou - I haven't had much time past two months. But (again) - turns out - compared to the last picture - I have managed to finish the rear fender and I think I'm on a right tract for the tail light and rear end section. Will see.. . -

Hi. Just wanted you all to know that me and the project are still very much alive. Just have a lot of other stuff on my table, mostly regarding my LUG past and upcoming events and lugbulk. And I haven't got much further with Beemer than the tail lights... -

Thank you folks for the nice comments. Very much appreciated. And please... don't be shy :). Spread the word about this. I haven't abandoned it. I have big plans for this one. I was just veeery busy with other stuf. But good news are - yesterday I picked it up again and currently am strugling with the tail light section. -

Continued my way back to the rear section of the car. Oddly - seems ok to me with the first shot. Struggled a little bit with the underneath the rear section, but... other than that - seems ok to me. -

Finaly had time to get back to this project. Changed the window frame and the roof technique. I think this will do much better. Now - the rear section. Yep - the door holds. Even with the whole inside part added to it. The roof also holds it up. You can see that the seats are laid back, so.. there's nothing holding the roof at the rear. Imagine when I'll be done with the rear part of the roof - it should be relatively strong, at least stronger than my earlier MOCs did. -

Didn't have much time past week. Here's a little update to see, how it looks if the rigid hose is fixed at the rear at approximately correct angle and high. And the door window frame is built underneath it. It does look quite ok, but I don't like that the frame is that fat. There has to be a way to do it thinner. -

Hmm.. this might actually work. The good old rigid hose technique. The door holds for itself on one clip. I plan to use two clips, so it should work well. And with the hose I'll get the desired roof shape too. Two birds with one stone. Yikes! -

Oh really? That's interesting. To be honest - I've never paid much attention to how the other folks do their cars. But thanks anyway. And thank you all for showing the interest. So, here's a new update. Today I finished the front seats (or at least I think so for now) and most of the top of the dashboard is complete too. Will see how this will fall together when the central console will be added. But after that - oh God - then I'll have to work on door hinge mechanism. I suspect that will take a while, a patients and a lot of gray hair. :) -

Thank You, followers 21-May-2018 Bonnet basically is finished. Just few elements need to replace in blue. Will continue with what's under the bonnet -
After couple of years working on a not-car projects I picked up BMW i8 as my next project. This time I plan to post a work-in-progress pics here as well. Just for fun I think 05-May-2018Started with side. It has interesting door shape - both - the front and the end are sloped. Let's see how this construction will flow together with 75 degree inverted slope 06-May-2018Yep - it flows very nicely with 75 degree inverted slope. But - wow.. the struggle with the door end and the section around it. It has three different angles there in a small area. So complicated. I bet I'll return to this section 06-May-2018Continued with front grill. Those small neck brackets are really nice. They give the narrow gray line just above the kidney-grill section. And at the bottom the bumper will cover half of the plate, so the lines both will be as narrow as it can get. Also - a small update at door window line. Implemented the half plate increase (do not mistake that with half-stud offset). This gives the window line much smoother increase from front to the rear 07-May-2018Continued with headlights. There isn't much space to work within but somehow I managed to "break" the headlight in two angles and cover the side of it. 08-May-2018Something unusual. Normally - when I redo a part of my MOC, it gets more accurate shape, but at the same time it gets more fragile. Not in this case. The headlight outter section and the outter-bottom part of the bumper got nice curvy shape and is even stronger than before. 16-May-2018Changed the bottom of the grill section. Instead of half-covering the lower plate, I changed the entire supporting construction and implemented there headlight brick technique. This gives the desired grill look and the bumper fits there perfectly too. Now I'm struggling with the air intake and the small loop below the grill. Have tried like three or four different techniques, but nothing fits there like I want it to... 18-May-2018 After countless iterations I think I finally got the front air intake right. Turns out - I had to use the smallLEGO Technic panels. The connection is strong and easy. To be continued...

Scale Modeling Building Help
Rolic replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here's how I do. I build in 1 : 15 scale. With a little help of google I can find the actual dimensions of the object I am building (car, tractor, truck etc.). Each LEGO unit (stud) is 8 mm wide / long. So - use this formula: <actual object dimension in milimeters> / 15 / 8 = <MOC length in studs> It is rarely an even number, so decide - which way you're goind to round it, or not. Since there are half-stud offsets and you can also build sideways... you can get prity close to the actual measurement. Next.. find a bueprint of your desired object (side, front, rear, top). I import this picture in CorelDraw and apply a prepared lego-grid, but you can of course use whatever software you feel to fit. Each cell of my lego-grid is one plate long and one plate high. Count the calculated <MOC length in studs> and manually shrink or enlarge the blueprint picture to fit exactly the calculation. I normally do this with side view as that normally is the greatest dimension. Since car blueprints usually come with all four views in one scale, then all you have to do is to scale just one of the views to the lego-grid. All the remaining views will be to the desired scale automatically. Apply the lego-grid there too and you have the width, high and length in lego units there too. I'm sure this is not a rocket science for the members in this forum. But I just felt like writing the stuff down :) Cheers -
So clean... so beautiful.. I 'd love it. No!! I do love it.
