Brethren of the Brick Seas?
Dunedain replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, its either we are going to include FANTASY elements or we are not. If you want to be completely historically accurate and just use "voodoo", then you cant also have a giant squid fighting a made up monster/creature, like chutulu. Also, if you just want to use voodoo as your "fantasy" element, then wheres the FANTASY? Just a bunch, or certain groups of people basically practicing a type of religion. The most fantastic one would get would be bleeding out chickens, spitting out alcohol, and maybe feeling a pin prick from a doll, but NO Chutulu. Its either we have fantasy, or we don't. -

I think most of us here, including myself, when we use civilized/uncivilized, it is mostly tongue in cheek. Almost rather jokingly when thinking that a bunch of grown men in powdered white wigs and "skirts" bent on subjugation, are "civilized", while a peaceful society that lives in harmony with nature, are "uncivilized", is very tongue in cheek, lol. -

Not that you would be confined to the island/area, Lord Vladivus, but you would have certainly originated from there. You could indeed sail the seas as you wish, but try landing your Aligator crew, or ghost ship, anywhere in the civilized realm and you would surely be met with volley, upon volley, of thunderous fire!!!! -

The concept of the "one" island, was only a thought to convey the idea of limiting the fantasy element. I also agree that it doesn't need to strictly be one island per se,but an area far away,or confined to a corner of the realm. The closer to civilization, the less they believe, would be the logical progression of the story. -

In fact, what if as contests are held, the winners of these contests, like best MOC or best mini-figures, get to color an area on the map for their faction. In other words, if the winner of the latest contest is a bluecoat, then the area in contention goes to the blue empire. If a bunch of bluecoat faction members keep winning contests, well guess what, the map is gonna start to look bluer and bluer. This will drive the other factions into "action", creating bigger and better MOCS to "win" ther lands back, and color the map their factions colors. If the latest and best MOCers are Pirates, well guess what, there is gonna be a lot of black shading on the map. This gives a reason to enter and build better, and creates a game within a game. -

How about somewhere on the evil island could be the opposite of a fountain of youth. Where unsuspecting sailors wade thru a certain cursed waterway, and are stripped of their flesh, forever cursed to walk the island as a skeleton pirate. The fountain of doom, and the only cure could be a drink of the water from the fountain of youth, to restore them to life. We could have side stories where perhaps buried on the island is a special map or key, that could lead to a treasure located somewhere else in the realm, thus making a crew have to brave the island. I also think that there should be unchartered or unclaimed, neutral islands or lands in the realm and on the map. This would give the imperial factions missions to discover, conquer, colonize these areas. The colors on the map of these areas could be constantly changing from red to blue to green to black, and back again. Each Imperial faction should have its "home" land, but there should be whole areas of contested lands that are up for grabs. Will the Pirates rule here, or perhaps the Redcoats, or maybe an uneasy alliance of Red and Blue to keep out the Pirates. Really the sky is the limit, but by having certain areas with "undefined" borders or areas up for grabs, this gives way to tons of possibilities, and will make it a realistic environment for colonial powers and pirates to strive for. I think an ever changing map of red, blue, green, etc. will be awesome, and give a reason to conquer! -

That's exactly what I was thinking. My idea of limiting the fantasy to one island and or area, can "control" the fantasy elemants from becoming to much. I picture sailors telling tales of that "cursed" island over bottles of rum. Or imperial soldiers pissing themselves when their ambitious Captain steers to close to that "forsaken" place, during his pursuit of a Pirate. Maybe a Pirate captain is dealing with a mutiny, because he insists the tales of a haunted island are rubbish and wants to land there. Again though, this island should be the only place we would see pirate skeletons, hidden magical items, fanciful creatures, and perhaps a certain infamous ghost ship that circles this islands waters. -

I think when it comes to the fantasy element, things should be kept within the strictly "stereotypical" pirate fantasy elements. This would be skeleton pirates, ghost ships, voodoo type elements, and the typical sea monsters like Krackens and leviathans. The main story lines should be kept mostly within the red, blue, and green faction, pirates, and islanders/cannibals. I picture the factions being about 80 percent the storyline, and the fantasy elements only being 15 to 20 percent. This way the "bulk" will still be the historical element of red coats and blue coats, vs Pirates, and not all crazy farfetched fantasy stuff most of the time. Perhaps we could make it like maybe there is only 1 island in the realm, and on the map, that the fantasy stuff is allowed. Maybe like a haunted island, where if ships get to close they turn to ghost ships, or the island is inhabited by skeleton pirates. This would just be one small island on the "map" where the fantasy elements can come in play. -

I am so down to do this. I have a ton of bricks, figs, ships, to do pirate MOC's, and would love to contribute. I just think though, that for it to work good, and more importantly get a lot of members to participate, especially new members like myself, the rules need to be clear and simple. If things are complicated and such, I am just worried it might "scare" some from joining. That being said, since this is going to be new and on the ground level, if its simple, at least to begin with, then I think there is a chance that many will join, making it a worthwhile endeavor. -
Capt Wolf is right, you should have a Bluecoat vs Redcoat battle for the fort. Winner of the battle gets the fort and there flags flying freely above it, lol. Looking good so far. I have a similar imperial fort set up myself, except I added a bunch of the new 2015 Fort and outpost sets too.

Nice job, very realistic, my only slight recommendation would have been to maybe use smaller eyes, but that's my personal preference. The snow/ice looks good too, in fact it looks like my block right now, as we speak. Lol we had 8 inches last night in New Jersey.

I agree, I like the red black over the blue and red look, but she really needs those pigtails.

WOW, between Mattdev and Brikcraz's absurd comments above, if another ignorant comment is made about " not talking about the winter 2015 dc wave ", IN THE 2015 DC WAVE THREAD, I am going to flip. Its just getting so childish here, and some members are really showing their age. If they don't like people discussing DC 2015 sets in the DC 2015 thread, then stick to doing your 8th grade homework, and don't come here.

I bought all the new Pirate sets a few days ago, including the ship. I actually picked up 2 sets of the soldiers forts, and 3 sets of the soldiers outposts.I combined them all together, modding them into a pretty nice sized fort/outpost. The bluecoats are nice and mixed with the revolutionary collectable minifigures, they all look cool together. I don't like that Lego reused the same Pirate heads WAY TO MANY times, though.

Master eBay Auctions thread - post noteworthy auctions here

Damn, that's a lot of soldiers!!! Honestly though, I think if I added up all my original imperial soldiers, and my 2009/POTC soldiers, together, I would probably have well over 100 figures myself. Seeing them all in one listing for sale, is kinds crazy though. -
Like Capt Nemo said above, as soon as I saw the pics of these sets the first thing I thought of was Batman AND Scooby Doo Mocs. Its going to be awesome, and seeing the swamp monsters "Penguin" face, only confirms that these Scooby sets should be mixed with Batman. The Mansion has a greenhouse for Poison Ivy, plus that new CMF plant figure coming out, it will be perfect. I think if I remember correctly, there was a Batman, Scooby Doo, crossover episode or mini-series back in the day, not sure.

I am getting every set for sure. Not only was I a huge Scooby fan as a kid, but these sets have great builds and figs. I could use a lot of the pieces from these sets for my Batman sets/figs anyway. The jack o lantern heads will be perfect for The Scarecrow, and the plant monster and greenhouse will be great for Poison Ivy. Heck, even the giant spiked ball at the mansions front door could make an added deadly attraction in Jokerland.

I think if you "click" the grey hat on top of the Joker head, left or right, it will make the eyes move. Also, maybe, if you spin the green bow tie, it might make the pink "tongue" raise and lower, which will make a figure fall down the purple slide. There are definitely some type of "play features" with that giant joker head. Eyes moving, bowler hat switches back and forth, bow tie spin, etc.

I think the new Batboat is great. The 2 front rafts can eject, it looks like, and there seems to be a control panel in the center of the boat once you lift up the satellite pieces. I think the whole set is awesome, and I am really looking forward to it. The repeats of the Penguin, Joker, and Ivy, SUCKS, but otherwise, I love The Joker Land set. I have been scrutinizing every picture to see where, and how, I will be able to combine 2 Joker land sets, and the original Funhouse, or 2, all together into a giant set. I already got some ideas just from seeing the pics. This kinda stuff actually drives me nuts, and keeps me up at night contemplating what I plan on doing with a set that's not even going to be available for another 6 months, GEEEZ!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Dunedain replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
WOW, HOLY WORST CASE SCENARIO!!!!!! What a shame! Not only does the TMNT line end for Lego, but we have to get tortured by seeing inferior sets from Mega Bloks, HORRIBLE!!! So many missed opportunitys from Lego, and now they will never be made. My TMNT collection will never feel complete. -
I picked up the Batzarro movie today too. I was surprised, in a good way, that Batzarro came with the "old" style cape material, not the soft newer ones. The figure is nice, the purple outfit is a little off putting, but I like how it distinguishes him from the real Batman figs. I did not watch the DVD yet, probably gonna watch it tonight with my 7 yr old daughter. Oh yeah, one thing I forgot to mention, but it seems like Batzarro's cowl is a little loose on his head. Not that its falling off, or even spinning around his head, its just that its looser than other figures who always have a tight fitting hat or hair, and it hardly any pressure to pop it off. Anyone else who has this figure notice this, or is it just mine?

MOC: METROPOLIS MAYHEM (My Superhero City)
Dunedain replied to rickfromkrypton's topic in LEGO Licensed
AWESOME stuff dude!!! When I first looked at it, I wasn't sure if I liked all the bright, very colorful, colors you used, but the more I looked at it the more I love it. I am used to more "muted" colors on my Gotham City layout, like greys, beige, blacks, but this works perfect for your Metropolis. Cool stuff, the cooked skeletons in the pizzeria, is especially gnarly. It would be cool to maybe add some black colored skeletons mixed in with the white ones, to give it that more charred body look. Awesome job man.- 12 replies

In response to THELEGO DR's post, I do agree that Lego prices have gone up and children are indeed the target audience. However, with that being said, a $120.00 is usually more along the lines for older Lego fans, Adult Lego fans, collectors, and of course some children, but there are not a TON of children being bought $120.00 sets. At least its not the norm, yes around Christmas time it may be that "big" gift for some kids, but most parents are not dropping $120.00 bucks for their kids Lego needs, at least not on a regular. So a set like Jokerland is going to also have the AFOL in mind, even teenagers, collectors. If the set is not good enough, it is going to be passed up by many, including parents who will not buy a$120 set for their children if it looks "cheap" and or not "worth" it. I think the example you used with the cantina set actualy kinda proves that the Jokerland should be bigger. 8 figs is even 4 both and you could argue that the dewback/lizard would be equal 2 the batmobile, that leaves the set,and the Cantina was $50.00 CHEAPER. That means the set part of Jokerland should be equal to almost 2 full Cantina set parts, with figs and batmobile/dewback being a wash out, and the Jokerland just doesn't seem 2 be, at least NOT the prelims. I still feel and hope there will be more.
