  1. Look at post # 52, there is a graphic of the parts you'll need. The model uses a servo motor for steering, you'll need an M-motor for the retrofit.
  2. They may not be "true Technic", but they are good looking Lego models. The challenge would be to add power functions to them.
  3. I'm presently building Jurgen's Ultimate 8043. It has a few more parts than the standard 8043. An extra XL motor, a third IR receiver, and transmitter, etc. I don't have a very large reserve of unused parts because I keep the finished models. That said I've spent about $550 on parts for the yellow version.
  4. I'm building the 8043 excavator using Jurgen Krooshoop's plans. I've reached the point that the control system needs to be installed. I would like to use S-bricks but several question need to be answered. I have an Android based phone running 2.1+EDR Bluetooth software, is this compatible with the S-brick? If so, are they as "reliable" as the IR controls? Your opinion's pleas.
  5. The 42009 crane was the kit that got me interested in Lego. I've built the base model and then upgraded it to the Ultimate version with Christophe Moittie's extended boom. The new boom makes a better looking model and can be fitted to the base 42009. As to the operation of the outriggers you have to leave some end play in every gear and connection in the drives to minimize friction. If you want a challenge try building the Grove 6400.
  6. If you do a search of the IHI CCH2500 I think you might find a close match for the crane.
  7. I have not seen the model yet but your right if it is a 250 ton crane then it would b a CCH2500. It is the only crane that has the cab on the right side
  8. The model is a fairly close representation of the Japanese IHI company CCH500, 50 ton, hydraulic crawler crane.
  9. The 42030 bucket is 21 studs wide I'm not a student of loaders but it looks correct. The 32030 bucket(18 studs) that came with the 8043 was a good choice for the B model bulldozer but a "poor" one for the excavator.
  10. I hope they sell well. I'll take a couple.
  11. I want one. I have plenty of beams and other parts to mount the bucket so I don't think you need to worry about providing extra parts.
  12. It seems to me that trying to use pneumatics for steering is making the design more complex that it needs to be and then only "good enough". I suggest that you keep it simple (KISS) and use mini LA's for more positive, controllable, steering.
  13. Your project comes at a great time for me. I've ordered the parts I need to build the 8043 and would like to order one of your buckets.
  14. Technically it's a Bell 205. The UH-1 is the Army's designation.
  15. It was interesting to read the thoughts on how each of you go about your design process. What books would any of you recommend for a Lego reference library?
  16. Keep posting your progress, this looks good.
  17. I flew the TH-13 (military designation for the Bell 47, T indicates trainer) back in the late 60s while going through US Army flight training. Compared to the turbine powered Huey, they where woefully under powered ships. You have really captured the spirit of the bird, including not being able to get into the air on hot, high density altitude days.
  18. I agree! Please don't "dumb it down". It will look good on the 8043 as is.
  19. Very nice! I'm gathering the parts now to build the "ultimate" version of the 8043 and very interested in your bucket. What are your plans for it?
  20. Thanks for the reply. The Grove 6400 crane is an impressive model but lacks the "pop" that well done graphics could give it. Unfortunately the question was not deemed to be technick related and tossed off the site. Sour grapes, yes.
  21. No I do not! I would like to add to your question. Does anyone know where I can get custom stickers made.
  22. If you are going to build the model I suggest that you build the V2 version by Catweazel. It replaces the servo motor with an M-motor an 2 small linear actuators. This will give much better steering control. The instructions may be buried here in this string or someone may have the link.
  23. I Like the idea. I just bought the Technic shirt form Brick shirts.
  24. I like the way you filled in the Crane upper structure. Would you post a few more pictures of that area?
