LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

The people who wanted Old Republic movies would’ve been disappointed anyway, there’s no way they’d be able to do the old stories justice. Doing something completely new is the best move, especially considering that the old cannon didn’t explore that era. I really hope these rumours are true, but until Lucasfilm comes out and says what the movies are about take everything with a grain of salt. -

What’s the bet that a good portion of those pieces go to making the wheel out of tread pieces? I hope he’s in scale with R2 and BB-8 but I think he’ll turn out too big for that, maybe he’ll be more in line with the porg? More display models are always a good thing but it sounds like waiting for a discount might be the best bet with this one. -

As much as I want Rebel Friend as an exclusive figure, I would happily take Jedi Bob instead. -

The new X-Wing only has 2 spring shooters on the underside. The TFA T-70s and the last T-65 had 4, 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top. Honestly, I prefer it with only 2 shooters, it makes the model more accurate. Plus those things are very prone to misfiring. I much prefer when the shooters are integrated into the build instead of just being slapped on top. -

Ah, thanks. I knew I couldn’t have been the first to notice! I was checking for printing errors (surprisingly I got one that’s straight!) and thought something looked off. The changes are minimal, mostly just making things bigger like on the new BB-8 but there’s some new blue accents too. -

So I just got Poe’s X-Wing for Christmas and I noticed R2-D2 has a new head print. I don’t recall seeing anything about it on the forums yet. The last set I got R2 in was the Tantive IV, has his new head been in anything else or is this the first set? -

Yeah there was like 2 pages of arguments over it. Not sure why since looking at photos of a T-85 makes it very clear that it’s a T-70. -

I've already seen the landspeeder at a Toys R Us in Canada so it won't be long before the rest of them turn up elsewhere. -

Out of curiosity, what would you consider the best set of the 2015 TFA wave? -

I just built Kylo’s shuttle. I’m sure I’m going to be in the minority on this one but it’s definitely a step down from the last version, even if the wings fold. I’ll most likely be taking this one apart and rebuilding the 2015 model. For starters this ship looked far more accurate in dark grey. I’m happy that everyone who wanted it to be black got a black version but now it just looks wrong, especially since the sleekness of the ship has been broken up with dark grey accents everywhere. The wing mechanism is flimsy as hell, the wings don’t lock in place so they flop around everywhere. Not to mention that the integration of the function has taken up half of the interior space and the ship can now hold only 3 figures instead of 6. The figures are decent, but aside from the two Knights of Ren there’s nothing to get excited over. Kylo Ren himself is downright awful. His hairpiece isn’t included and his helmet is oversized and looks like someone smashed the front in with a hammer. Such a shame considering the first one was the best set of its wave and included the best Kylo figure LEGO has ever produced. -

I don't remember the answer sorry, but I know there's a recent designer interview that answers this question, but I can't find it for the life of me. I'm almost certain it was on Brickset but I could be wrong. I think it had something to do with repositioning the rubber bands? I'm sure someone on here has seen the article I'm talking about. Back printing would be nice but given how prone R2 is to printing errors I see it as just another thing that could go wrong. His back has hardly any detail anyway so leaving it blank is fine by me. The third leg, however, is something we've needed since 1999. There have been so many different attempts at a 3rd leg that don't look good enough, the only way it'll work is with a new piece. Too many R2s? What a stupid complaint. Every time a figure shows up in multiple sets of the same wave it's a good thing, even if it is someone we've gotten countless times like R2 (who I'm pretty sure still holds the record for most appearances in LEGO sets). I'm really sick of LEGO making figures exclusive to one set, but I know it'll never change. -

Microfighters are brilliant. I expected to see pilots, not Kylo and Zorii. I'll probably pick up the Y-Wing for Zorii if I don't get the bigger one that just came out. Love the Bantha. FO Battlepack is the best set of the wave. Excellent figures and the build is nice, looks like a mini FO snowspeeder. No interest in the snowspeeder at all. Good to get Wedge again, but the build is disgusting. I understand that it's aimed for a younger audience but they could've at least tried to give it a better shape than a plate with a cockpit slapped on top. I don't see why people are disappointed by the Mustafar set, beyond it missing Padme (which we knew it wouldn't include anyway). Looks great to me, glad they included the mining droids and the large platform thing. That said, I probably won't get it because I have plenty of Anakin+Obi Wans and I'm not that fussed about the damaged robes, plus I have the 2013 starfighter set that included the droids. I'm glad this set is out there for new collectors, though. I hope LEGO keeps up this small duel set trend. Rey vs Kylo was great and this one is too. I'd like to see Vader vs Luke on Bespin and Yoda vs The Senate in the senate if they keep it up. We've seen the hut and landspeeder before... the hut is fine for what it is but will no doubt be insanely overprice in Australia. I might pick up Obi-Wan on bricklink because the figure is vastly superior to the 2014 version, the brown robes that continue down the legs look awful. The landspeeder looks like a step down from the previous versions imo. Glad that people who missed out on the last landspeeder can get one, but like many other collectors I already have one of these. The TIE dagger is fantastic. I'm still a little disappointed that it wasn't included in the first wave, since it ruined the streak of a new TIE for a new movie hahaha. Love the inclusion of the stand. Great to see Finn pop up in something else, especially since I'm not buying the Falcon (don't need another when I have the UCS). Nice catch! Are those 6x4 wedges new too? It's the first time I've seen them. The X Wing is great, I'll get it when it's on sale. Clearly it's a T-70. -

Someone in the comments of this article mentioned a 1989 Batwing. In the lists I’ve seen for 2020 I haven’t even seen a D2C, is this something that could actually happen or is it just someone jumping the gun and assuming they’ll do a batwing because we got a batmobile? -

I don’t think there ever was a source on Jannah... just rampant speculation that people took as confirmation, as usual. -
Did you even read my post beyond the first sentence? Beyond Jyn, the characters don’t need to have more development because that’s not what the movie is about. The point of the film is to show how the rebels got the plans to the Death Star. All we need to know is who was on the mission and what they stood for. The characters are real. If you had any sense of empathy you would feel the emotional moments.

A third KOR helmet leaked a while back that was different from the two included in Kylo's shuttle. -
I completely forgot about these examples, I'm not picking and choosing scenes. Of course the original trilogy movies set precedence for the whole franchise. If anything, these scenes help my argument more as they go to show that TLJ used slow-motion in the completely wrong way. The 3 examples of slow motion you've given from the original trilogy are all used for one shot to emphasize an important action. This same style of emphasis is used in TFA's only slow mo scene. While TFA's slow-mo extends beyond one shot, it emphasizes the force awakening within Rey as she defeats Kylo Ren. Additionally, it's not used to completely slow down a movement in an action scene but rather used to slow down the pace of the duel, much like the cave scene in ESB. Then there's TLJ, where slow-mo litters a large amount of the action scenes in the film. The technique loses all effect when overused. I feel like you've completely missed the point of Rogue One. It's a war movie about stealing the plans to the Death Star. It isn't necessarily trying to be deep and emotional, it's trying to show the sacrifice that lead to the rebellion getting the Death Star plans. On the character front, all we need to know is who the major players are and what they stand for. Jyn, Krennic and Galen, the main characters of the film, are excellent examples of character development. As for the supporting cast, they're developed to the extent that the film needs them to be. Baze Malbus has no real effect on the plot beyond providing firepower, his character is small enough that he doesn't need to be fleshed out beyond "his home was destroyed by the Death Star." Cassian Andor is shown to be a man with questionable morals, the perfect fit for someone on a mission to assassinate an imperial science officer. Bodhi Rook is a messenger, he sets the entire film in motion. After that he's completely unnecessary to the plot, Cassian has been shown to be a pilot too, but Bodhi sticks around because he knows what the Death Star is and what needs to be done. When the Battle of Scariff begins, the movie runs out of time for further character development, but it's okay because the characters don't need it. We know enough about them to justify their actions in the battle. Believe it or not, watching these characters fight for what they believe in is enough for some people to be sad when they die.

We can go back and point fingers at Bob Iger and JJ Abrams, but at the end of the day The Force Awakens was actually a good movie and most people loved it when it came out. I didn't really see anyone bashing it until South Park started making fun of it. Rian Johnson is 100% the person to blame for the current state of the franchise. There is no hype for Episode 9, Rian killed it with his movie that did nothing to move the trilogy's plot forward that couldn't have been summarized by an opening crawl. When writing 7, JJ wrote drafts of 8 and 9 as well, but Rian came on board and threw away JJ's version along with it the hopes of a coherent trilogy. During the press tours for TLJ he said his goal was to "not make a good movie, but a good Star Wars movie," it's a shame that he doesn't understand what makes Star Wars different from other sci-fi franchises. That much is evident just by watching TLJ in the context of the other Star Wars films. The first warning should've been when he said there would be no time jump between 7 and 8. Right off the bat he hasn't given TFA enough room to breathe story-wise and the opening crawl is a rundown of what happened in 7 instead of setting up the context of the new movie. Within the first 20 minutes of TLJ Rian breaks every established rule of Star Wars cinematography - TLJ is the only Star Wars film to rely on slow motion in the action scenes (the only other examples of slow mo in SW are a few seconds towards the end of Rey and Kylo Ren's duel in 7 and the cave scene in 5). From there Rian proceeds to remove every Star Wars tradition from his movie in the name of "sUbvErTinG ExPecTatIOnS," but really all he did was make TLJ generic sci-fi nonsense instead of a Star Wars movie. TLJ has no "I have a bad feeling about this," no wilhelm scream and for some reason it doesn't even have a lightsaber duel. It's the only Star Wars movie to use flashbacks instead of the characters having an actual conversations, and don't forget that it's filled with anti-war and environmental propaganda.

There's no doubt in my mind that Episode IX will under perform. I know a lot of Star Wars fans, and I can count on one hand the number of people who are interested in seeing TRoS. You can try and claim that it's a vocal minority, but there is a very large group of fans who disliked TLJ. I do believe that poor marketing and the May release date was part of the reason Solo performed terribly at the box office, but TLJ definitely has had a larger impact than anyone wants to admit. Solo has been available to watch through numerous avenues for about a year and a half now, and there are still several Star Wars fans who have not watched it and have no intention of watching it because of TLJ. Of the fans I've spoken to both online and IRL, I'd say only 25% have seen Solo. What does that mean for LEGO Star Wars? I don't think it's going away any time soon, the toys are still profitable. As others have said the market for the younger audience has moved towards gaming, and with that in mind I think the next LEGO Star Wars game next year is sure to be a hit. LEGO has already demonstrated a shift towards the digital market with hidden side and boost, if those perform well I'm sure we'll see something similar start to appear in other themes including Star Wars. It will be very interesting to see what sort of products LEGO releases over the next couple of years. If anything I think we'll see a reduced number of Star Wars sets and focus shifting to other themes. I think our biggest concern as fans should be Disney asking for more money in licensing fees and set prices going up as a result. Considering how sleazy Disney's business practices have been these last couple of years it's a very real concern.

I don’t understand all this fuss about hairpieces for Anakin and Obi-Wan, the hairpieces they have now were created specifically for them. The two new pieces being suggested aren’t accurate at all. Mad eye moody’s hair piece is okay, but it’s a mirror of anakin’s actual hairstyle (it’s parted the opposite way). The commissioner Gordon hairpiece is an alright fit, but it’s far too square shaped when compared to a lot of the reference photos out there.
