LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

That is one hell of a LEGO set. Note that the product description confirms that it is indeed the Devastator, if that wasn't obvious from the inclusion of the Tantive IV. Love the fez pieces being used as the cockpit for the Tantive. The mini TIE Fighter is ugly. No idea why the designer has used 1x2 plates instead of 2x2 plates for the wings, or black pieces for the cockpit instead of grey. I l get the idea they were going for but really if they weren't going to put effort into making it look decent it should've just been left out. Figures are nice for what they are, Imperial officers aren't really all that exciting. Sure, everyone has Vader already, but for the price and considering it is his flagship I would've thrown him in for good measure. The price tag tho... the UK really got screwed on this one. I'm glad LEGO has been kind to us in Aus and priced it at $1100 (never thought I'd be thankful for that!). I still haven't decided if this will be a day one purchase or if I will wait. I've wanted the old Star Destroyer for some time, and I do see the price as worth it, but I'm not sure if I want to send LEGO the message that sets like this are okay. Yes, plates cost more and price per piece isn't a valid test of value, but this is too much with the Falcon and Hogwarts either costing the same or less, both with more pieces and both with a more value than this. LEGO needs to rethink something behind the scenes, find a way to cut costs, accept a lower profit margin or get ready to lose customers. It's not just the D2C sets that are priced poorly. The designer video is very interesting. Love the way the internal frame looks, but there is definitely room for an interior in there. At the very least there should've been a bridge akin to what was in the SSD. Hell, I would've even accepted standing room for the two included figures like in the Star Destroyer playset from 2006. I would like to think that there isn't an interior because they didn't want to make it more expensive than it already was. Gripes aside, it's a fantastic display model that will be added to my collection eventually. At 110cm its a full 10cm bigger than the last one, I can't wait for the inevitable photos of the two sets together. -

Yes. Oh wow, no way that would happen today with the new one. 10178 was a little before my time so I only know what I've read. I was referring to it not selling out on S@H until 2012. -

75192 was the first set of its kind in 10 years, LEGO had no idea what kind of a market existed for it. From our point of view it was going to be a hit, but remember that AFOLs make up a small portion of LEGO’s market. From LEGO’s point of view, 75192 was a massive risk. Keep in mind 10178 wasn’t the best seller when it was around (part of the reason why it became worth so much). If I remember correctly it only had two production runs in its entire lifetime, and the second one took so long to sell out. I think the set officially retired in 2010 but was still available until 2012. -

I find the lack of interior disturbing, especially after how the new UCS Falcon made a point of improving over the last one. If there was one, it would definitely be on the box. I was expecting at least a command bridge. Also only two figures is disappointing. Of course it’s not about the figures or an interior, and with nearly 4800 pieces it’s sure to be the best build since the Falcon. Interested to see the internal frame, hopefully no magnets this time. I’m glad the mini Tantive IV is still there. The stand looks a little flimsy, but there’s no doubt it’ll support the weight of the set. Very happy to see that the big circular thingy on the underside of the ship hasn’t been omitted from this version. I want to know what those engine pieces are, to me it looks like they’ve used those Death Star pieces like so many MOCs have. Can’t wait for HD pics to see all the greebles. -

I wonder if they'll reveal it tomorrow or if they'll wait until it ticks over in Denmark. There's still time for it to leak, but I wouldn't be surprised if LEGO does their press release the moment it does. I, for one, would argue that Vader's castle was a Rogue One set. Also, if we're going by included minifigures as the deciding factor, the Tantive IV from this year is a Rogue One set. Off the top of my head I think LEGO has the Star Wars license until at least 2022, but I think they had it extended recently. Plenty of time for more Rogue One stuff. As mentioned there's the AT-ACT, the Zeta-class shuttle and the TIE reaper as the big omissions. I could 100% see them doing a partisan or a blue squadron X-Wing as well, maybe even the Citadel tower or a hammerhead corvette. In a perfect world, we'd get the base on Eadu and a ton of stuff from Jedha but that I don't see happening. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually saw a Vader mowing down rebels vignette as a convention exclusive or a GWP. Give it time, a couple more Rogue One sets will come, especially if Cassian is getting his own series. Rogue One has already developed somewhat of a cult following, I'm willing to bet money that 10-15 years down the road it'll be the fan favorite. I'm already willing to get in the ring with anyone who thinks ESB was better . As for Solo, the only thing I can see coming out of that is Dryden's shuttle, and not any time soon for that matter. Maybe 10 years from now we'll get another Kessel Run Falcon but that would be a stretch. -

I know my economics. Aussie prices sound a lot worse than what they actually are. with exchange rates, shipping costs, taxes etc the prices are more or less the same. But when we're talking purely numbers, $1000 is a lot of money in both currencies. When someone asks how much the UCS Falcon costs, which price tag are they going to be put off by, $800 or $1300? -

It’s funny seeing all the Americans complain about a $700 price tag when the Aussie price is likely to be as high as $1100, if not worse -

Holy crap. After the trend of UCS remakes being smaller than the original sets I’m so happy to finally see the chain being broken. Sure, details are nice, but there’s nothing like the wow factor of walking into a room and seeing one massive LEGO creation dwarf everything around it. I’m willing to bet a lot of those pieces have been put into the internal frame and they’ve done away with 10030’s magnets. -

I definitely can see it having two figures as well, I just don’t think (or I’m really hoping) LEGO has the balls to put only 2 figures in a set that big. Unless they include microfigures (which I really hope they don’t). I think he mentioned something about the size of the set being the real attraction, but I really didn’t pay too much attention because it threw up so many red flags for me. I think the words “stud shooters” were thrown around too. -

There’s someone in the LEGO Star Wars collectors Facebook group claiming to have seen the set, he says there’s only 2 figures. He refuses to say what they are beyond “you will be disappointed” so take it with a grain of salt. He’s also claiming there’s a small interior. 2 figures seems highly unlikely to me, and I expect at least something like the interior of the SSD. I think the best we can hope for would be the figures from the fake leak: Vader, Tarkin, Krennic, 2 stormies and 2 officers. Save for Krennic I think that’s right on the money. Only a few more days until we know for sure -

I knew it was too good to be true the moment I saw Krennic and Scariff. Good fake though, better than the ones people made for the MILF a couple years back. -

Ugh, not this ridiculous box silhouette garbage again. I stand firm on my opinion that its coincidences and design choices, and until someone from TLG comes out and says that its not I won't believe otherwise. Yes there's a Falcon on the box of the Death Star, there's also TIE Fighters and several rebel ships. The silhouettes are obviously there to allude to the Battle of Yavin, note that The Falcon on that box was placed directly behind the included TIE Advanced. Cloud City is in the background of the Falcon box because the Falcon is mostly modeled after the ESB version of the ship, it includes ESB figures so of course they're going to put something like that on the box. The photo of the side of the MILF box has Star Destroyers but also includes the second Death Star and the forest moon, clearly depicting the Battle of Endor. Not to mention the fact that its been pretty easy to guess the UCS sets these last couple of years since they've almost run out of things to make/remake. People were correctly predicting the Y-Wing when the Snowspeeder came out and people were predicting the Tantive IV/ISD pair for this year when the Y-Wing came out. The only way LEGO can surprise me with their UCS Star Wars sets is if we don't see an A-Wing and at least 1 TIE variant over the next couple of years. -

501st clones have appeared in 2 sets, both in 2013 (6 years ago!), and only as Clone Wars variants. Its about time we got updated versions... preferably they'd be in a cheap set, hence battle pack. Just because you'd rather see the same 4 Stormtroopers again doesn't mean that there's people out there who want to build their own army of the republic. The prequels exist and we love them as much as you love the originals, get used to it. -

Death Star cannon: nice looking vignette with good figures. Not for me but I see it doing well. May bricklink Obi-Wan if the hood piece doesn't turn up elsewhere. A-Wing: Good to finally get a resistance A-Wing, great to see Snap again and to finally get Connix. If the price is right I'll pick it up. Y-Wing: Glad to see they've kept what worked with the Rogue One version, specifically with the ends of the engines and the bomb dropping feature. Disappointed to see that the detail on the engines is once again a sticker. Love the shaping on the cockpit. Excellent figures as well. Again, sold if the price is right. Speeders: What's included looks good, great to see more original vehicles and to get Rey and the Jumptrooper in a "cheap" set. I'll wait to see if Rey and the Jumptrooper turn up elsewhere before getting this set. Unfortunately this one is at what is, IMO, the worst pricepoint for the Australian market. The USD price of $40 is fine, but that will almost certainly translate to $90 for us. Even with the shipping cost and included GST that is absolutely appalling. AT-ST: Obviously very similar to the Rogue One version. I'm not entirely sure where the extra 100 pieces have gone, but there are quite a few changes in the build. The overall shape is the same but the parts used to produce it have changed. The figures seem good but I would like higher quality pictures, especially of Pedro Pascal's character (that cape :O ). Hopefully his head is something unique, if not a plain black head. Seeing the USD price jump from $40 to $50 is worrying, even with the extra pieces. I think I would've preferred a straight up recolor of the last one just to save the money. The Rogue One and First Order AT-ST were $80 and $90, which again is atrocious. I see LEGO asking $100 for this, which is well over the line of value. I will buy this set eventually as its important that LEGO keeps producing sets for Star Wars content that isn't the movies. Yoda: I was hoping for something more in-line with the previous Yoda. I like that this one is based on the prequels rather than the OT, the eyes are very reminiscent of Yoda in the Clone Wars. Like BB-8 and the Porg this will definitely look better in person, I think the trick with this one will be to display it either below or above eye level, not at eye level. From the photos, Yoda looks best in the one that was taken from a slightly elevated angle (the one that shows him with the display plaque). I would've liked to see his mouth represented better too. That said, the shaping on the body is good and the lightsaber is a welcome addition. As far as display models go, this one is solid and I look forward to adding it to my collection. Kylo Ren's shuttle: I'm one of the few people in the camp that this ship looked better in dark grey rather than black, but I'm glad to see that LEGO listened to our collective feedback. I have the previous version but I will pick this one up too. Excellent figures included, I hope that they turn up elsewhere in the future. Interested to see how the interior compares to the last one, it seems that access to the cockpit has been improved (from what I can see, only one access hatch as opposed to two). The last one could fit all the included figures inside it, I hope the same can be said for this one. Seeing it with the same piece count as the last one yet a higher price is very concerning. I don't think the inflation excuse is valid in this case as keeping the same price point on this one would've resulted in similar profits, especially since LEGO is likely to have cut back on operating expenses in the 4 years since the last one's release. Millennium Falcon: Seeing so many figures being exclusive to this set is sad but I understand why LEGO did it. For the most part this is a solid improvement on the 2004 design, such a shame that they had to replace the gaps in the top of the ship with gaps in the engine by using flex tubes. It is still slightly too tall but it's really only noticeable in the area directly above the docking ring. Great set for someone who doesn't have a Falcon, but since I have the 2015, 2018 and UCS versions this is an easy pass for me. I'm looking forward to the next UCS and whatever LEGO has in store for us over the next few years in between movies. I hope LEGO continues listening to us and produces some sets and/or updates that we've been asking for. Hopefully in the future this stupid idea of secrecy around future products goes away and we fans can have a more direct line of communication with the designers, perhaps even some form of input in the design process, however minor that may be. I understand why we don't see pictures of new sets until close to release, but I don't understand why we can't be told that the designers are, for example, looking to produce 10 sets for January 2021 and that they'd like our input on what will be produced. Overall I agree that this is a solid wave, I love seeing that LEGO has finally listened to the fan's feedback on sets like the Millennium Falcon and Kylo's shuttle. Unfortunately, like with most sets over the last few years the price points are slowly creeping upwards. I don't mind paying a premium for LEGO if the quality is there (looking at you, 75192), but if this trend of smaller sets becoming more expensive continues for much longer LEGO will start to price out their customers, if they haven't already. As touched on above, we're already seeing this in sets like the AT-STs. LEGO should look back to their sets from 10 years ago for inspiration. $30 sets then had the same amount of pieces as $30 sets now yet what was included was much more substantial, bigger models with more play functions. LEGO's design team is incredibly talented and I'm sure they could pull it off. -

Nice catch. I don’t see LEGO rereleasing a set that was so negatively received, so maybe it’s a coincidence, but it wouldn’t surprise me either if it was. Though I don’t think the shuttle should be black I know almost everyone else does so if that’s the only change that’s made it’s a step in the right direction. -

I doubt bricklink is the way to go for a set as small as this one. Shipping would probably cost an arm and a leg, while buying from S@H will get VIP points. I also have $60 of credit that I’ve been keeping so if I decide to I can pick it up for free. -
