[WIP] Jeep CJ5
Pego replied to Pego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks! Haha those rocks are about 500 meters from home and there's obstacles for every size of truck, so I feel pretty lucky :) It depends where you would drive, some places the KrAZ wouldn't fit, and some places it would go over with ease. I'd say in general it is suited better for small 4x4s though -

Progress will be made this weekend :) Thank you! Did you go offroad with your CJ5 at all? I haven't started the rear part yet (I will continue this weekend), but I have a good idea of how I will make it. I will use the 8878 rechargeable battery box. Yes size would be an issue, but not so much weight, because 2 L motors geared 1/5 have a lot of torque. The servo is geared down 1/2 so that it uses the whole 180 degree range. Also the steering link holding the steering rod is offset by half a stud improving geometry and straight-driving :) -
EDIT: It is finished. I was wery inspired by RM8´s fj40, so I of course wanted to build something similar. I´m going to build a Jeep CJ5 which should be fairly easy to build (body), but the tricky part will be getting the motors under the hood and (hopefully) fitting the battery under the seats. The servo motor and the two L motors will fit under the long hood. WIP by Pego's Legos, on Flickr WIP by Pego's Legos, on Flickr WIP by Pego's Legos, on Flickr WIP by Pego's Legos, on Flickr

The body is finished now, and I'm pretty happy with it. It has been a lot of fun to drive, because it is so robust that you don't have to repair anything. Also, servo steering with Sbrick is really nice Lego Suzuki Samurai by Pego's Legos, on Flickr Lego Suzuki Samurai by Pego's Legos, on Flickr Lego Suzuki Samurai by Pego's Legos, on Flickr Lego Suzuki Samurai by Pego's Legos, on Flickr Lego Suzuki Samurai by Pego's Legos, on Flickr Lego Suzuki Samurai by Pego's Legos, on Flickr And here is a short test: (WIP) -

Here's what I've come up with: I'd like to make the fenders out of flex axles, but they are pretty fragile and hard to mount in the front -

Thanks everybody :) Don't have too high hopes on the body, I'm not that good on them yet :) I'll move the Sbrick into the cabin when I get that done Everything should fit in the cabin pretty nicely, there is little room for an interior though, probably only a steering wheel. -
Hello! I made a simple trial truck chassis. I will build a Suzuki Samurai body for it (probably black and without the rear roof part). Functions: - 4x4 (L motor) - Steering (Servo) - Live axles The battery box is mounted on the rear axle The live axles has a panhard rod in the rear and a 5l suspension piece in the front to keep them aligned The gear ratio is about 1:4.6

Didn't see this before, but I love the engineering you have got here, especially the unimog and this 6x6, you must finish them -

Did the plastic break completely? I haven't seen that before -

I wouldn't glue them together (if that is what you meant), they could still separate. If you have 2 more of the new u-joints you can use a half bush and some thin liftarm without making the chassis longer -

Looking really good so far, but you must reinforce the axle that goes into the front axle, because it won't stay in there under even low torque, like driving around a flat surface -

Thanks! I don't have those tires, but they would be almost perfect as they are rubber and not hard plastic. It would get one stud wider though, which isn't too bad- 20 replies

Well, if its going to have live axles you could try offsetting the whole driveshaft by one stud, it shoudn't affect anything -

Thanks! I was going to make it myself, but my computer is broken. And the front axle is indeed very useful- 20 replies

Hello! I recently ordered some new tires from bricklink and wanted to make a truck to test them. I originally wanted to do a Man Kat1, but decided to do something smaller, so I tried to replicate a MAZ 535: The real one has independent suspension (mine has live axles), so it is not very accurate, also the wheelbase is about 1 stud too long between the 1st and 2nd axles. This truck features: 4 live axles with "leaf springs" 8wd with an L motor 4 wheel steering with an M motor The steering is a little sloppy (2nd axle) but it's still very enjoyable to drive. I love these tires, they are super grippy and have a deep tread, much better for offroad than the newer ones:

[MOC] Mini/Micro Unimog
Pego replied to Pego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Now I´m ready with this truck, and I´m very happy with it. It doesn´t look very great, but it has a lot of features: 4x4 with an L motor through worm gears Pendular suspension front and rear stabilized with rubber dampers Rack and pinion steering with an M motor Raising/lowering bucket with a 9v motor and a small linear actuator Tilting bucket with an M motor and a small linear actuator It was my first time making a front loader, and getting it this compact was challenging. The raising/lowering was the hardest to do, a small linear actuator pulls on a thing sliding on two axles, pulling on a linkage raising the bucket. I thought that it would be super top-heavy, but it is actually not too bad, it is decent off road. Video: LDD file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3uQRNR6UbBWS21MQlplNnVWS3c/view?usp=sharing -

Thank you! It would probably fit with some modifications, but it's the model team tires that hold this one back -

I thought of something similar, but this one takes only one stud away, it´s a nice idea though. -
