LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
suenkachun replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Me too! I also reported all of these as errors of LDD 4, so hopefully they will be possible very soon!On the other hand, I have another suggestion. Currently, when you open your LDD models, some Bricks placed illegally the last time you were building may be removed, and you get a pop-up message to remind you how many have been removed. However, it may take ages for us to locate the exact location of these Bricks, therefore can something be added to help us pinpoint the exact locations of these removed Bricks one after the other so that we can modify/fix the original design(s)? -
I finally got the ring sorted out, so thank you for everyone's help! But I just noticed something new, which has something to do with the Fabuland Broom (Part 4322). As shown in this image, I turned the Broom upside down and placed it into a round plate with a hole. However, the first time I did that, I inserted the Broom until it could go no deeper, and it was removed the next time I opened the file. Simply speaking, placing the broom too deep will cause it to be removed. Next, this Mini Head (Part 3626) has two tiny extra bits of printing on one side. Finally, below is a recap on two errors I reported earlier. First, three bricks have a colour included in their names, but they are not necessarily provided in those colours in the Regular Mode Of LDD. The first one is Ball Ø 52 mm, Charcoal grey (Part 23065), which is provided in Dark Stone Grey, Medium Stone Gery, Bright Red, Bright Yellow and Bright Blue. Next is the Gold Ingot (Part 99563), which is provided in Medium Stone Grey and Silver Metallic. Finally, the Antique Key, Gold (Part 62808) is provided in Dark Stone Gery. These bricks should be clarified as their names are quite confusing at the moment. Next, some Bricks have a slightly incorrect name. The most obvious example are the four wigs made especially for the Harry Potter Theme, including Harry Potters Wig (Part 40233), Hagrids Wig (Part 40238), Dumbledores Wig (Part 40239) and Rons Wig (Part 40240). All the names of these wigs should have an 's after the name of each character, instead of just an s. If we look at the Boy's Wig, Horse's Tail (Part 95226), we can see that LEGO has included this before, so they should do the same for the four wigs mentioned above.

What new LEGO Bricks would you like LEGO to make?
suenkachun replied to suenkachun's topic in Community
It's time to add more Bricks to my wanted list, but I prefer to continue the list in a new post. 13. Plate versions of certain Bricks. Two types of Bricks are included in this category: 1. Brick With Angle/Facet Brick and 2. Curved Brick/Brick With Bow. The exact Bricks include: Brick 2x2 w. angle 45 degrees (Part 87620), Facet Brick 3x3x1 (Part 2462), Facet Brick 4x4x1 (Part 14413), Facet Brick 5x5x1 (Part 6107), Curved Bricks 2 Knobs (Part 3063), Brick 2x2W. Inside And Outs.Bow (Part 85080) and Bow 1/4 4x4x1 (Part 48092). If you refer back to the fifth item in the first post of this topic, there should also be a Plate version for the missing Curved Brick. 14. Two new Round Brick 1x1 (Part 3062). Currently, the Round Brick 1x1 (Part 3062) has a wider end and the other end has a stud with a hole. I suggest that there should be a Round Brick 1x1 with two wider ends and another Round Brick 1x1 with the stud with a hole on both ends. I've seen the first one in another Brick brand and thought that LEGO should have both versions. These two Bricks can be really useful when you want to build a pipe from one wall to another horizontally. 15. Taller Round Bricks. Currently, LEGO has the 1x1x3, 1x1x5 and 2x2x3 versions for a normal Brick, so there should also be a Round Brick 1x1x3, Round Brick 1x1x5 and a three-brick tall version of the Brick ø16 W. Cross. When building round columns or pipes, these new Bricks can make them look better. 16. Brick 1x4 W. 8 Knobs. Currently, both the Brick 1x1 and Brick 1x2 can have either a knob/knobs on one side or knobs on two sides opposite to each other, but the Brick 1x4 only has the version with four knobs on one side. Therefore, there should be a Brick 1x4 W. 8 Knobs with four knobs on each side. 17. More extremely long plates. If you refer back to the third item in the first post of this topic, I've already talked about adding more longer Plates. This time, I suggest LEGO to open up the world of 24-brick long Plates (such as a 4x24 Plate), as they already have the 6x24 Brick and the Brick 12x24 Canister. 18. More one-brick wide plates. Currently, one-brick wide plates only include 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4, 1x6, 1x8, 1x10, 1x12 and 1x2x2. It will definitely be more convenient to have a 1x14 Plate and a 1x16 Plate. 19. Longer Flat Tiles. Flat Tiles used to only have 1x1, 1x2, 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 and 2x2 (and even larger ones, not mentioned here). In recent years, 1x3, 2x4 and Corner 1x2x2 were added. A 1x10 and even a 1x12 Flat Tile will be really helpful, but I do not recommend going over 12 Bricks for Flat Tiles. 20. Plate 2x2 Round W 1 Knob. Currently, there is a Plate 2x2 W 1 Knob, and a round version will help a lot. That's all I can think of this time. Please continue to contribute your ideas, and thank you for everyone's attention! -
At last I have time to reply. The screen froze after I hit "Save", then I lost the file, so you were right, the programme crashed while saving. I tried several methods hoping to rescue the file, such as running two different zip repair tools, searching for "Previous Versions" of the file using this function in Windows and searching for backup files on my Laptop. None of this worked. If no one else can provide any solutions, I will officially can the project and move on to other things. Thank you for everyone's attention!

Perhaps this is the right place to ask, as a previous post and replies could not solve my problems. I was building something in LDD recently and the file crashed. After I turned on my Laptop again a bit later and wanted to continue building, the file was empty! While opening it again I saw a message saying "Parsing of the file was aborted due to an error in the file." Importing the file doesn't help either. If anyone can help me fix this or tell me what's going on, thank you so much! Here's a link to the file: https://www.dropbox....ilding.lxf?dl=0. Anyone's help is greatly appreciated as I spent so long on this project! Although I do still have a few images of parts of the project on my phone, it will be too hard to re-build again. Thank you for everyone's attention! P.S., I tried running two different zip repair tools, and the image file was successfully rescued by both tools, but not the lxflm file. The image file was way too small to view anyway, so there's nothing else I can do. I also tried to search for *.lxf and/or *.bak files on my hard drive but no luck.
-
I tried, but no luck at all, so I can say that LDD has no backup files at all, or have I just missed it? My Laptop once stopped working and I had to refresh it then reinstall LDD, so I lost all of my Templates saved before that. The search, however did found me files containing the Bricks I saved in the old Template! And it's true, importing won't help. Anyone with other solutions please help!

There are in fact a certain number of new Bricks which I would like LEGO to have. During my construction of different models, I realised that having these Bricks would make it easier for us to build, and these Bricks can also help save the total number of Bricks used, especially when you are submitting your creations to LEGO-they don't usually appreciate models with very large amounts of Bricks no matter how detailed or beautiful your model can be! Also, if you are recreating a real life item (such as a building or a vehicle) in LEGO Bricks, you want to be as accurate as possible; in this case, adding a few new Bricks can always help! Join the discussion and contribute your ideas as you may, but please note that this topic will not make any requests to LEGO as that is beyond our reach. If anyone thinks that a Brick is in fact good enough to be requested, they can attempt the task and report back. If any of the suggested Bricks are in fact existing or being developed by LEGO, please post and tell us, as it will be great to see our wishes come true! To start the discussion, below is my current list of wanted Bricks. 1. 1x14 Brick. In recent years, LEGO developed the 2x14 Plate which helped a lot, but I still think that they need one for the Bricks. After this, both Plates and Bricks will have a 10, 12, 14 and 16-brick long version. 2. 4x4 and 4x8 Brick. Currently, LEGO has the 4x6 Brick, 4x10 Brick and 4x12 Brick, together with the 4x4 Plate, 4x6 Plate, 4x8 Plate, 4x10 Plate and 4x12 Plate. In order to fill the gaps, there should also be a 4x4 Brick and a 4x8 Brick, but I've ruled out wider Bricks to simplify things. 3. Other longer Plates. It will be really useful if there is a 4x16 Plate, and LEGO could open up the world of 18-brick long Plates (such as a 4x18 Plate and a 6x18 Plate), as they already have the 4x18 Brick. 4. Other wider Plates. The world of 8-Brick wide Plates should be expanded to include Plates like the 8x10 Plate and the 8x12 Plate. 5. Another pair of Curved Bricks/Curved Plates. As seen in the image here, LEGO Currently has three pairs of Curved Bricks and Curved Plates, but there is a gap in between the second group and the third group. The gap in both the Bricks and the Plates should be filled in to make building easier. 6. Shorter Sliding Plates. The Sliding Plates are really useful when you want to build sliding doors or replicate Automatic Doors, but currently it only has the 2x8 version. Having a 2x4 version and a 2x6 version will really help, as seen in the following example. Modern Elevators usually have pairs of narrow sliding doors, and currently it's not yet possible to recreate that unless your Elevator is eight bricks wide. 7. Narrow Doors/Windows. Referring to the Elevator example above, if you Elevator is four bricks wide, two 1x2x6 Frames with Glass can help you recreate the sliding doors. This is also useful in the following situation: as seen here, some doors may have both a wide part and a narrow part. By using a 1x4x6 Frame and a 1x2x6 Frame, these doors can be reproduced more accurately. There should also be a corresponding Glass and/or door for the Frame. 8. Doors which open inwards. In reality there are doors which you push open but the door knob or handle is in front of you. This type of doors currently can't be reproduced in LEGO Bricks, as you can't place the door knob or handle outside a door which opens inwards due to the door frame blocking the way. If a new door could be made with the studs for the door knob or handle on the door moved slightly inwards from the edge we can finally have doors which open inwards. 9. Horizontal Windows. This has been my wish for a long time. Currently LEGO only has vertical Windows (such as the Frame 1x4x6 and corresponding Glass), but very few horizontal windows. The closest one is the Wall Element 1x4x2 With Windows and the corresponding Glass. My idea is a whole new range of horizontal Windows, which may include a Frame 1x4x2 and Glass, Frame 1x8x4 and Glass, Frame 1x8x4 Bipartite (with a horizontal line in between) and so on. I once developed my own version of a horizontal Window (as seen here), created by flipping an existing Frame 1x4x6 and corresponding Glass by 90° and adding Bricks here and there. 10. A new Frame 1x4x3 with corresponding glass. Currently, the Frame 1x4x3 can only fit in a Glass For Frame 4x3 which opens on one side, while the Window Frame 4x3 can fit in a Glass 23, 75x28, 5x2 which can rotate as the middle of the sides are used to attach the Glass to the window. My idea is a Frame 1x4x3 with corresponding Glass where the Glass is fixed into the Frame in the four corners and not being able to be opened, just like the Frame 1x4x6 and corresponding Glass. 11. Brick versions of certain Plates With Angles. Some larger Bricks with angles only have a plate version, such as the Left/Right Plate 3x6 With Angle. Brick versions of these Bricks will really help. 12. Longer Profile Bricks (Single Gro.). In recent years, LEGO developed the Profile Brick Single Gro., which has the 1x2 version and the 1x4 version, representing smaller tiled Bricks on a normal Brick. A 1x6 version and a 1x8 version (can even be longer than that) will benefit those who use this type of Brick extensively in the wall of a house. That's all I can think of for now. Please contribute your ideas, and thank you for everyone's attention!

LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
suenkachun replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
New proposal: why not include a "Brick Type Selection Tool" where all of the same type of Bricks can be selected, such as selecting all Bricks, Plates, Flat Tiles, Minifigure Accessories and so on in one go? This can be extremely useful in the following situation: if you've started to build the first floor of your model and now you want to hide the entire floor to look back into the ground floor, you can now avoid using the "Colour/Shape/Colour and Shape Selection Tool(s)" multiple times, but use the "Brick Type Selection Tool" to select all of the Plates you used for your floor at once then hide them using the "Hide Tool". This tool should also have an alternate version: the "Brick Type With Colour Selection Tool", where all of the same type of Bricks in a certain colour can be selected at once, such as all White Plates. For the category of Bricks used in the tools, the different sections of the Brick Palette in LDD can be a starting point, then the Bricks can be sub-divided into even smaller categories, such as separating the "Profile Bricks" from ordinary Bricks. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
suenkachun replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I posted this as a bug of LDD 4, but perhaps I can post it here as well as it might be useful. Currently, Bricks which have decos can be found in the Regular Mode of LDD, but some of them have more designs in LDD extended (such as the Mini Upper Part and Mini Lower Half). Issues which I found include certain Bricks "Missing Printing" in the Regular Mode of LDD (such as the animals), Bricks still missing certain printing even if you are able to decorate them in LDD Extended, such as the Cats (Part 13786, missing side stripes and patch beneath head), Bricks which lack printing in the Regular Mode and can't be decorated in LDD extended, plus Bricks with both a plain and printed version (most of them do not have a plain version in reality). As mentioned in some of the posts here, it can be quite troublesome for someone to go through all of the decos in LDD Extended. Therefore, I came up with the following point: All parts with printing in reality should look exactly the same in the Regular Mode of LDD and no plain version of these parts should exist unless they have one in reality. If a part has more than one design (with printing included) in reality, LEGO should simply inset one copy of each design in the Regular Mode of LDD. To make this work, multicoloured parts need to be introduced to LDD. After this process, we do not have to decorate any Bricks in LDD Extended as all of their printing are now included by default, and Bricks with decos can look better. More variations of the printed Bricks can also exist. Thank you for everyone's attention! -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
suenkachun replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
To expand on my earlier post, I would now like to clear things up as in fact there are several different tools I am asking for.The first group of tools involve the "Multiple Selection Tool" and the "Colour/Shape/Colour and Shape Selection Tool(s)". For example, I have included 10 Black Window Frames With Transparent Glass in my model, and I now want to delete them all. Currently, I have to use the "Colour and Shape Selection Tool" to select all of the the Window Frames, press "Delete" on the keyboard then do the same for all of the the Glass; or I could use the "Multiple Selection Tool" to select everything one by one then press "Delete". My proposal is a new tool which combines the "Multiple Selection Tool" and the "Colour and Shape Selection Tool", so that all of the Window Frames and Glass can be selected at once then deleted. This tool can also be very convenient if I want to move several Window Frames With Glass in the same row all at once (instead of deleting them), especially for a few bricks to the right/left, as for example you can't move only a Window Frame one brick to the left wile the Glass is still in situ since they won't fit into each other. To make things consistent, there should also be two other tools which combine the "Multiple Selection Tool" with the "Colour Selection Tool" and the "Shape Selection Tool" respectively. The second tool involves groups of Bricks. If I use a group of Bricks together frequently, I always place the Bricks as a template so that I can recall the group easily. Examples of this may include a piece of Furniture, a Printer, Bricks forming a specially designed Window or larger items such as a car. However, currently it's really hard to manage these groups of Bricks. For example, if you've placed a Table in the wrong place or you want to only delete the Table, you have to use the "Multiple Selection Tool" to select all the Bricks used to build the Table one by one then move/delete the whole thing, or you could delete all of the Bricks connected to the Table (simply speaking, disconnect the Table from the rest of your model), use the "Connected Selection Tool" to select the entire table, click "Undo" to recover the deleted Bricks then move/delete the Table. The "Colour/Shape/Colour and Shape Selection Tool(s)" can't be used in this case as they can't isolate Bricks used for the Table from copies of the same Bricks used elsewhere in the model. My proposal is a new tool to make things easier. For now, I can't think of what tools to combine to make this tool; but what I have now are the actual functions of the tool. Referring to the Table again, I can simply insert another copy of the Table, then by selecting the extra Table, the original Table is also selected. After this, I can simply click "Undo" to remove the extra table then move/delete the original Table as it will still be selected. To make this tool work, it must have one very important property: when selecting the groups of Bricks, it ignores the same copies of any of the Bricks used in the identified group outside the group. For example, if a White 4x6 Plate is used as one of the Bricks in the Table, other White 4x6 Plates used elsewhere in the model will not be selected. To talk about this tool in a simple way, the tool turns the group of Bricks selected into "One whole Brick", then the tool can work like the "Colour/Shape/Colour and Shape Selection Tool(s)" to select all copies of the group of Bricks selected in the model. I think that the tool should therefore be called "Group Selection Tool". I hope that my new post has made everything clearer compared to my previous post. Thank you for everyone's attention! -
Which method would you prefer when hanging Plates/Flat Tiles on walls?
suenkachun replied to suenkachun's topic in Community
I never thought of that, so thank you for your idea! However, this will increase the number of Bricks used, therefore as AFOLguy1970 mentioned above, using the Bricks With Knobs saves the most Bricks. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
suenkachun replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thank you for pointing that out! My Laptop is in fact not powerful enough to run LDD properly (due to the Graphics Card), and it would sometimes crash when building large models, occasionally with a pop-up message saying that there is a Graphics Driver Failure. In that case, I would also loose everything unsaved, so I used to hit save every time I added a Brick or changed something! With auto-save, we won't loose everything unsaved so please add it. Just look at the unsent posts in Eurobricks: they are auto-saved! Why can't LDD do the same?! -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
suenkachun replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Here's something I'd love LDD to have in the next update, something which I've wanted for quite a while already. If I use a group of Bricks together frequently, I always place the Bricks as a template so that I can recall the group easily. However, say that I've placed multiple copies of the group in wrong locations: I'd need to manually select the groups of Bricks one by one then delete/move them or use the Delete Tool to delete them one by one. Therefore, I hope that LDD can have a "Group Selection Tool". For example, I have inserted a LEGO Printer as a template. When I've placed one Printer in the wrong place, I insert another Printer from the templates, then I select the newly inserted Printer. The "Group Selection Tool" can help me select the other Printer at the same time. This tool is just like the "Multiple Selection Tool" and the "Colour and Shape Selection Tool" combined together, and can also be useful when you are deleting things. For example, I've previously inserted a row of Window Frames with Glass and now they all need to be deleted. By using the "Group Selection Tool" all of the Window Frames with Glass can be selected at once then deleted. The tool should also have the following feature: when selecting the groups of Bricks, it ignores the same copies of the Bricks outside the identified group. For example, if there is a White 1x1 Brick in the Group, the "Group Selection Tool" will only select those White 1x1 Bricks identified within the groups, but not all of the White 1x1 Bricks (or simply any 1x1 Bricks) in the file. With more complex structures like a piece of furniture, this tool is essential when you just want to select and move/delete a single piece of furniture without having to hide things and/or use a lot of time selecting each and every Brick of that piece of furniture. Thank you for everyone's attention! -
Very true! Thanks for reminding me, as I also experienced something similar while going through the Mini Head, Mini Upper Part and Mini Lower Part (not Lower Half, sorry for the typo!). Therefore, the LDD team needs to address the scrolling errors in current locations where scrolling is being enabled before they add the feature to the Colour Palettes, Brick Palettes and Brick Lists!
-
While building with LDD today, I noticed two different ways of hanging Plates/Flat Tiles on walls. (NOTE: Images have been removed for now.) The first method is to use angular plates (1.5 Bolt. 1x2 1/2; 1,5 Top 1x2 1/2 or 1x2 1/2) together with two Plates near it on the wall then attach the Plates/Flat Tiles on top of the Angular Plates. The Second method is to use Bricks With Knobs on the walls then attach the Plates/Flat Tiles on top of the Knobs. From my observations, the first method secures the Plates/Flat Tiles in a better way on the wall, but there is a distance between the two; while the second method works perfectly when hanging Round Plates/Flat Tiles (without the square/rectangular shapes behind), but the Plates/Flat Tiles are less secured. Comment to share the method you prefer or your own solution!

I went there last summer and it was totally worth it! My mother fell in love with the "Star Wars" Themed Scenes while I found "Miniland" amazing, which had small LEGO versions of famous places around the world, and some of the scenes even had moving parts! These in my opinion already makes Legoland Windsor worth visiting!

Referring to my earlier post, I just found a similar situation elsewhere in LDD. When using the Paint Tool in the regular mode of LDD, extremely long Brick Lists also need the scrolling feature added so that we can access the Bricks in the lower half of the lists. These include: Mini Head, Mini Upper Part and Mini Lower Part, where all three types of Bricks have so many designs that currently we can only select the design we need from the Brick Palette itself. In LDD Extended, the scrolling feature was already available when using the Decoration Tool on the above three Bricks, so why not make it available in the Brick Lists and Colour Palettes as soon as possible? Thank you for everyone's attention!

To sum up my recent posts and to add more information, here's a long list of my suggestions. Some Bricks have been omitted on purpose as the are uncommon. If any of the decos are already found in LDD, please tell me and I will remove them. 1. Minifigure Related. Currently, there are a number of Bricks (with or without printing) which go under the category of Minifigures (head pieces and accessories are not included this time): Micro Figures (Part 85863), Mini Leg (Part 41879), Mini Lower Half (Part 73200), Mini Upper Half (Part 76382), Roof Tile 2x2x2/65 Deg. (Part 3678, the "Dress" of some Minifigures), Mini Head (Part 3626) plus other special parts (such as lower halves with wooden legs on them, upper halves with special limbs and hands, tails, special heads and so on). Issues found in LDD include: all Micro Figures lacking printed versions, common decos of upper halves, lower halves and Roof Tiles (dresses) missing (e.g., the Chef's uniform found in Set 8398 BBQ Stand, link), complete designs of certain dessses and outfits missing (sometimes, you can only find half of the matching decos) and Bricks missing printing (such as some of the heads and tails). To slove the above issues, I have taken three lists from Brickset which cover most of the existing designs plus a number of parts not yet found in LDD (such as the LEGO Friends Parts). Micro Figures and Minifigure Bodies: http://brickset.com/...i-Figure/page-1 (up to page 12) Minifigure Heads: http://brickset.com/...ure-Head/page-1 (up to page 6) Roof Tiles (Dresses): http://brickset.com/...th-Slope/page-4 (starting from the fifth row); some of them are in fact printed on the slope, instead of the vertical surface. The following Brick which looks similar to the dresses is found elsewhere: 4640465: Skrø…Sten 2X2X2/65 Gr. "No. 24" (link) LDD should include all of the decos featured in the above lists and Bricks missing printing should have a copy for each printed version. New parts featured in these lists can be omitted for now. Below are lists of other Bricks with decos included but not yet found in LDD which should all be added. Links are also taken from Brickset. 2. Normal Bricks. 6079045: Brick 1X1 "No. 11" (link) 4622047: Brick 1X1, Dec. Other than the two missing Mini Upper Parts I mentioned in the post above, this page mentioned above actually reveals that only some of the dress designs are completely featured in LDD, where you can find a matching Mini Upper Part and a Mini Lower Part. Two examples of this include the Admiral's Daughter's white dress from one of the the Pirates II sets and the Bride's white dress from Series 7 of the Collectable LEGO Minifigures. What I later found is that we can sometimes only find half of the different dresses in LDD, either the upper half or the lower half! I know that it's hard for LDD to include ALL of the complete dress designs, so can LDD at least be updated to include the missing upper halves or lower halves of existing dress designs? Thank you for everyone's attention!
