  1. Looks pretty fantastic I like how clean the lines are.
  2. Thanks :) my fatal error this time around was not planning ahead that well. Eventually when I got around to making the crane I only had a tiny number of parts left. Sorry for dragging this topic on for so long, this will probably be the last update. Thanks for everyone who helped and followed, and I will upload picture instructions for the cab on brick shelf :)
  3. Thanks lads I made some changes to the front of the cab, the grille now extends all the way down to the front bumper and the bottom edge of the cab is curved. What do you think? BTW for my next project I want to build this truck, it is so cool http://www.ditzj.de/html/en/trucks/man/28540juhl.html
  4. This is pretty cool, but in my (humble) opinion it would be even more realistic if you could mount the pitman arm at angle and incorporate ackerman steering geomtery. Shouldn't be that hard since you don't have to worry about the tie rod being perfectly straight anymore.
  5. That is a stunning little car. The simplicity of it makes it even more of a masterpiece.
  6. Does anyone know where I can buy yellow pneumatic tubes that would make a good alternative to soft axles? Initially I was thinking about ordering from blokbricks but I thought I'd look for a US based store so I can get the items a little quicker.
  7. 8653, it's by far the most beautiful technic car of all time. EDIT: TLC technic car
  8. This is looks abslutely awesome! Could you tell me how many flat yellow panels you used for the dump bed?
  9. Thanks :) I did take a look at it, but I wasnt that impressed by it's looks. TBH I thought efferman's crane was much better looking still. I think I should move the 1st LA further down so the crane can fold down more. Any other tips/criticisms? I know I need to work on the hinges because it's a little flimsy right now, but what do you think about the overall shape and the look of it? I have another idea to make the 3rd section completely black so I'd I have more red liftarms left for the base. And be brutally honest
  10. What do you guys think about this crane? I tried to model it after the knuckleboom crane (within reason, obv) that's in the picture posted by Alasdair. Also while salvaging for parts for the crane I decided to change the cab a little bit. Specifically the area around and under the doors. I felt like it needed some curves Sorry for the massive picture dump, but I wanted to show all angles. Another problem is choosing a color for the base of the crane where the gearbox is supposed to be. The most sensible descision would be to make it yellow because I have a lot of yellow liftarms leftover. Black and red are out of the question but I may be able to make it in DBG.... Decisions decisions Also, Rishab, well strictly speaking it isn't, but I only spent about 20$ on extra pieces.
  11. Thank you very much for the criticism! Now I know what I can improve upon. I agree that compared to effermans crane mine looks like a joke. The problem is his is fully pneumatic while I only have two linear actuators and a very limited selection of pins and lift arms left from the 42009. I need to figure out a way to make the second arm hinge have a wide range of motion while taking up minimal space. Any ideas?
  12. You should consider ordering 3rd party pneumatics hoses from blockbricks. That's what I'm planning on doing.
  13. Well lads, the model is as completed as it will ever be. I'm not very happy with the rear end and the color scheme could use some work but I'm getting bored with this MOC so I'm going to stop here. Overally pretty satisfied with the way everything turned out. One of my big goals with this MOC was having functions that were intuitive to operate, for example, one direction of the motor would "unravel" everything ( Outriggers would extend+deploy, crane arms would raise etc.) and the other would "retract". My last MOC didn't have this and it was really annoying figuring out the right directions after switching functions. There are two gearboxes, the one in the chassis controls Outrigger deployment/LA-extension/Turntable and sending power to the crane. There's another gearboxes on top of the turntable that controls the crane arm. Initally I wanted to have both gearboxes mounted in the chassis but it was impossible to have that+all the functions with only 3 driving rings. I tried to make the gearbox on top of the turntable as compact as possible but it still made the crane look a little too big for the model. Oh well. The outrigger design was inspired by the 42009 althuogh heavily modified. Other than that everything is pretty simple. Thanks for all the love, I really appreciate it. Constructive criticism is always welcome. This is only my 3rd MOC so please go easy on me
  14. I'm more interested in the actual thought process behind the the design of the gearbox. Did you come up with a shifting mechanism first and then develop the gearbox around it? Was it a like a "flashbulb" idea of was it something you were working on for a while? Anyway, this is just an amazing build. Definitely IMO the best Lego technic supercar.
  15. Wow, thanks for all the support guys! Yup, they do not. The initial design for the outriggers had them extending to the ground but because the model is quite heavy there was too much stress on the mini-LAs and the steering racks. I changed it so that it barely touches the ground to prevent any damage to those pieces. You got it It wasn't modeled after a specific truck, but I wanted to capture the essense of a "rugged" M.A.N/Iveco truck. These are some of the pictures I used for inspiration. And as for instructions, college started last week so I really doubt I'd have enough time to make instructions for the whole model. But I should be able make picture instructions for the cab if enough people want it. Sorry
  16. What do you guys think about Arctic Truck+ $15 worth of parts from Bricks n Pieces? With the Arctic Truck I get lovely orange panels 2 mini-LAs 2 Unimog "power ball joints" - just what I need for a live axle setup 4 UV joints 4 Hubs 4 non-steered wheel bearings 4 shock absorbers tracks! Plus, it's way better looking than the Off -Roader. And with the leftover 15$ I can buy enough pieces for a independent front suspension setup.
  17. Thanks guys Also, the chassis is now completed. I didn't have enough pieces to make it as detailed as I wanted to, but it'll have to do
  18. Wow, I did not know that you could buy parts directly from Lego. The wheel hubs and suspension arms are much cheaper than on bricklink too! This is awesome, thanks.
  19. Thanks for the ideas guys, I live in the US so the pickup would be within budget for me. Also what's the best brick link store for technic in the US?
  20. Well, right now I'd like to prioritize on parts for suspension and maybe one extra motor to drive more functions. But the thing is, there is no single set with enough steering arms, hubs and cv joints for a 4 axle truck.
  21. Hey guys, I was gifted 100$ today and I've decided to spend that to expand my parts collection. So far I have one set (42009) and 25$ worth of parts I ordered off of bricklink so I have no suspension, IR and pneumatic pieces. I have one L-motor and the set of LAs that come with the 42009. Now should I spend my 100$ on individual parts on bricklink, buy a brand new set from TLC or buy a used set good for parts from eBay? I would really like some steering arms and hubs etc. but I could also use another motor and some styling pieces. I can hold off on the pneumatics until the 42043 comes out. What do you think I should do?
  22. They could've done a better job on the cabin. IMO the area around the doors look rather messy and the grill while interesting isn't the most elegant solution. Honestly the ugly cabin is totally made up for by the sheer size and complexity of the thing. Does anyone know for sure if the rear suspension is pendular instead of being fully suspended?
  23. Agreed. The cab is pretty ugly and looks rather flimsy. Other than that this is going to be one helluva set. Even at $250 this will be a bargain. Any ideas on how th steering works? Looks interesting.
  24. Indeed. I am absolutely in love with the arocs however the cab does look pretty ugly...
