  1. I didn't much enjoy using it, but I totally understand it's a matter of being used to the old one, which was frankly horrible & made no sense for newcomers. I hope the little quirks will be fixed, though. Like not being able to get out of a popup zoom by escape or clicking anywhere outside. Painful to have to aim for that X each time.
  2. I was there around the time of classic space, and IMHO Lego made the right choice with the LBG. It looks more like stone, and it's much better for spaceships. I wish Lego was sorting up more of their colors, because: -green is so ugly (while lime & sand green are very nice) -dark blue: way too close to black to be useful -all the pseudo-metallic stripey colors are ugly (& clearly aren't replacing chrome), and look like Megablocks -there are too many bright blue & yellow variants, pick one & stick to it -very-light-blueish-grey should get more parts, because it's the missing step between LBG & white, the gap is too big for good gradients Of course, as an adult, I would prefer more sand colors, but Lego isn't made for adults. Still, I'm sure kids hate the ugly green & see dark blue as black as we do under normal light.
  3. While I don't own / haven't tested the maze yet [i don't like the tan color scheme so I was hoping to bricklink the best version out of this contest], I love the idea of a joystick instead of knobs, however.. is it as responsive? The joystick seems to have quite some dead zone, at least on one axis, while the original version seems precise, no? Still a great version.
  4. yes, it's in the thread he replied with. Direct link to Rebrickable: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/gol/articulated-star-wars-at-st-v21
  5. well, Lego got that one right :) that size standard is called Melchizedek
  6. Yeah it's not technically stressing, but it's "abusing" factory thresholds, personally I'm not fan of it. I've reduced the # of segments per quarter by 2 and I've tried it with the few hinges I have, and actually it's pretty light (2x2 panels only weight a gram), I think it's gonna hold. Ulysses 31 was Ulysse 31 without the s, as it was french/japanese (and only popular in France & the UK). It's this spaceship that I loved in it: http://a142.idata.over-blog.com/606x554/0/07/00/40/2/trois/ULYSSES-31-NAVETTE-3-PARTIES-POPY-1.jpg There have been attempts at it in Lego, which weren't too bad. The eye, I used those dino-zorbing balls temporarily, but I actually have the right ball, which I'm gathering parts for. It works well as a standalone eye, especially with those 6x6 tie fighter printed fronts . yeah that's where 2 support feet would be best, in the middle of each half. But those bar supports may not work well, and the dented hinges in the middle tend to be rather loose.
  7. Yes I've already seen those techniques, but I don't really like because it's abusing & stressing the parts. There is a form of "legal" bending, though, using 1x2 "log" bricks, or round bricks, etc. Also, in the end it's "only" 2x better curve precision over hinges. But your pic is interesting, there doesn't seem to be any too visible vertical asymmetry. Is that the maximum bending using 1x2 bricks?
  8. How could it be a challenge to build? I'm even surprised that there is a difficulty question when you vote for a set. I mean, "it's just Lego", the only thing that's difficult with Lego, are stickers. The rest, it may be more or less time-consuming, may require more or less attention, but it can't be "difficult" for an adult. & what's sure is that an adult doesn't want parts in rainbow colors just to aid the building, if they end up ruining the model.
  9. I think it'd be worse because bricks would weight more, and also because the bottom curve wouldn't hold. But getting the smooth curve isn't really a problem, holding it (immediately & over time) is. If the rods were made of metal, the curves would form more or less naturally. Because they will probably have to patially hold themselves, they will have to be put in-place, but all that's needed is some kind of canvas. I believe this may hold, but that over time the top & bottom curves won't match. I of course googled Odysseus versions before I started, and I believe that bending is what happened to this one, which looks like a silly plush version: http://images.moc-pages.com/user_images/7650/1187012313_SPLASH.jpg Making this segmented one actually better: http://p4.storage.canalblog.com/48/56/1346397/110519361_o.jpg (& that one is held by the mid-sides, that would be an option)
  10. Very inspired by Ulysse 31's Odysseus, but not a replica. I might not go further with it, because it's very unlikely that it would hold by itself, and I don't wanna ruin it with too much Technic stuff. I tried to design it with built in mind, though - mostly using light panels. But I can imagine a built version would go flat because the bars aren't strong enough, or the thing would bend downwards too badly. If anyone here has a ton of hinges & panels and wanna make the test, LXF attached. Could be adding lots of details if it really worked. http://www.fiastarta...dysseusLike.lxf
  11. I don't think that a Lego Ideas project necessarily has to be "playable", and nowhere on the website it tells about "adult" sets being forbidden. While it's sure that an Ideas project has to use today's parts (and I've seen many projects use old hinges & parts that Lego is clearly never gonna produce again), I don't think that it has to be solid, playable & feature-loaded as a common Lego set. Architecture sets aren't designed for children, don't have play features, and aren't designed to be tossed around without breaking - I don't see why an Ideas project couldn't be just like an Architecture project. But why suggest projects that are just like what Lego would/will do by itself, anyway? Lego Ideas is the chance to get Lego produce stuff they would NOT normally do, no? When you get a set in every toy shop in the world, it has to be designed for children, tested with children, solid, playable, etc. But you won't find an Ideas set next to them, & those will be mostly D2C. Really, if Ideas would better be used for something, it's to tell Lego that there are adults out there who want MOC-quality sets. Unless that's not what you want, but I know it's what I want. I'm 40, I really don't care if a set is solid, I won't swoosh it around, it will sit on a shelf. Right now my choices are limited to UCS sets (..while the latest UCS is a playset..) and Architecture. Meanwhile, I see daily many MOCs that I would buy as sets, but I can't (which is normal - I'm not Lego's target customer). And those giant MOCs that you all complain about, *I* would buy the. And it's not because Lego has rejected the few ones that got voted so far, that they will never release any. Lego does produce large D2C sets, and I don't see why none could come from Ideas. I can imagine a lot of other reasons for those large projects to have been rejected. When you vote for a project, you have a "$200+" choice btw.
  12. Really, either you wanna make "Lego MOCs" and then it's the rules that make the game - the rules being more or less the same for everyone. Or you just wanna "build cool stuff", then yes, you'd be ok painting parts, glueing them, using parts of other brands, etc. BUT if this is your goal, you have better options than Lego, like 3D printing, which would give you much better, "adult" results. So why do it? IMHO it's all in the rules. If a Lego MOC is bending the rules, I expect much much better from it. "How did he do that? Ah, it's glued :( What's this part? Ah, not a Lego one"
  13. I doubt it - Lego isn't gonna stream out more Ideas set because more projects get voted, they have their limit for what's just a side, mostly D2C line (I'm sure that, compared to boxes that every toy shop in the world is loaded with, it's nothing). And I insist that Lego Ideas has more value for Lego than the sets themselves. It's free Lego advertising by users themselves, everywhere possible.
  14. I still don't get your point. A project needs 10.000 votes anyway, that's a big lot - hopefully there aren't 10.000 of members doing that kind of crap. Trust me that a project that gets voted, got its votes mostly from 1-time registerers, through social media. Not much from Lego Ideas users. And as someone already pointed out, many just support & leave comments in order to get votes in return. I too got similar stock comments. Finally it still doesn't matter, as Lego Ideas doesn't need more voters. Lego can't keep up with the voted stuff & has to reject a lot of projects, why would it need more stuff voted for?
  15. Can't they? I can still add updates to mine. As for editing the original text, I don't remember it ever being editable - maybe when it was cuusoo?
  16. I don't know which one is the best this week. Because it'd be hard to beat the shoes: However I like this guy who thought, hey, if Lego hasn't approved this gem ...maybe they will approve this?
  17. don't get too excited though, other new parts have been listed for months & have never been buyable
  18. True that each country had different tanks, but (I believe) most were improvements on the previous ones, based on feedback from the field. Only when it's war time, things evolve faster. And with old versions still to be found on the warfield along with the newer ones. IMHO what makes this AT-ACT less believable is that it seems structurally too different. Different attachments would have been more belieavable. But IMHO its worst sin is that it looks less cool.
  19. Ah, I forgot to check if those were in RB's listing. Will do. The "grille" pattern is still ok (& much cheaper), though. Also, if Lego makes another AT-ST this year, most likely we'll get those printed parts again. Good idea. I suggest one of these: Or this, and you could try to run a cable (black whip, 4mm tube, whatever) in-between the 2 units & connect it somewhere And yeah, only 3 LBG 50948's are available on BL now (not counting that megablocks(<-yeah that's censorship :) in Portugal). I guess I'm partly responsible for that now :) I own 6 of them, I guess it wasn't that rare before.
  20. Ironic that it's a (now) Disney-licensed theme that's the most violent :)
  21. cool, where's that pic from? Did you make it? Nexo knight robot parts are there as well. I hope Lego will want our money soon.
  22. Thanks, actually I'm already modifying it again, found a way to make the front plate a bit flatter. The hose isn't new, it has been there in all versions. In the Rebrickable instructions, you will see how it's attached in AT-ST_2.1_Parts.lxf (a clip actually attached to the black hose). It's not in the assembled version because it was too tricky to fit in the LDD. This same lxf also shows the proper parts on the sides of the back plate, those too wouldn't fit in the LDD. Also, even though it's way more fragile than a proper Lego set, I haven't done anything that Lego wouldn't do, so I didn't cut parts except the 4mm tubes (as they haven't always come pre-cut).
