  1. I quite like it, but here's the reason I'm not gonna buy it, at least not from Lego itself (or never if it remains a D2C): the price. It's one thing to cost 200eur for 1700 parts, that's already high, but ok. Sadly, it's not what it will cost here in Belgium, no! It's 230eur for us. 200eur for germany, 230 for a neighbor country. And 220 for France. Sorry Lego, I don't wanna be milked even more for no real reason.
  2. *with* proptection of intellectual property, Lego would not exist and you would be playing with Kiddicraft (or whatever before). I like Lego (or I wouldn't be here) but it's dangerous when things become a cult. It's a company that doesn't seem to be any in danger right now, and it's in no way a charity, you shouldn't worry about them & they don't worry about you either, if they care about something it's your money. Same for Disney/Star Wars. Plus, legal intellectual property isn't that old, and it wasn't "anarchy" before that. Also, monopoly isn't that good either, which is why most forms of intellectual property are time-limited. Moral intellectual property, that's different. Not crediting authors is pretty lame. I'm not sure that Star Wars's end credits mention all the stuff that Lucas "borrowed", btw.
  3. I'm not saying it's ok, I'm saying that -even if Lepin wanted to-, they would obviously not be able to license Lego's designs, nor Star Wars (well, not for the chinese market). Is it criminal, well that's how China works. Bootlegs are the norm there. If Lepin is a problem, it's only because they sell worldwide, thanks to aliexpress. Otherwise, China has always produced fakes for themselves and no one ever really cared that much, that's how the country works. There's nothing new here, that is. Only that bootlegs are now more easily buyable. I find it weirder that Lepin sets pass customs safely, but that probably has to do with them being bagged "anonymously" (even though they do include manuals which are definitely copies). I worked on software, and the joke about chinese distributors is that they want to buy *1* license and do the rest themselves :) They don't care about intellectual property, that's just China. It's pretty good actually. Not the prints, but most of the parts are just like Lego, and in fact they look better because there's no logo on the studs. Minifigs suck, as well as some technic parts, they seem to have major problems with these. I've built a super star destroyer, and only had problems with 1 plate. For 100 bucks.. and the satisfaction of not putting money in Lego's black market. For recent sets I don't even see why Lepin would be worth it. They're not THAT cheaper, when official sets generally end up 50% cheaper during sales, and considering you have to pay custom taxes. indeed and surely by now everyone knows that Lego was the first one to ripoff
  4. Well, give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it's just a post, and maybe they do consider licensing. Unlikely, -but- it's a possibility, (while licensing Lego sets, even if they had been willing to, would have been impossible. Ok, they're not gonna license Star Wars directly either.. but they could still reward the MOC's author). It's the next step anyway, and I'd say, it's a -good- thing. MOCs generally look better than Lego sets, at least for the reason that Lego has to make theirs solid & kidproof. Now imagine Lepin starting to release sets of the best MOCs out there, it may motivate Lego to care more about the look & less about sturdiness. Lego wasn't this obsesses with sturdiness years ago. If Lepin releases, say Marshal Banana's Falcon, I'll buy it & pretend that Lego's ones have never existed. I've been approached by more than one asian guys who wanted to turn MOCs into sets, btw. Whether it will be done all legally or not, it will happen, either because it's less expensive or because it's less risky. I'd be Lepin, I'd do 2 things: -I'd release bags of parts in colors that Lego doesn't wanna produce anymore, for MOCers. I wouldn't use non-Lego stuff in MOCs, because that's kinda "the rules", but I'm ok using a copy of a Technic half bush in black, if it's exactly the same as an official one you'd buy on Bricklink the ridiculous price of 10eur. -I'd take a look at Lego Ideas & make deals with authors of unreleased stuff. If Lego prefers to release a bunch of minifigs for feminists than this gem: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/48453, and Lepin produces it, I'll buy it!
  5. Personally, I love Classic Space, but Galaxy Squad isn't Classic Space. Classic Space has aged very well, it now has a naive, adorable look. What came after it still screams 90's, to me. I don't much like any of them, except Space Police 3 for some reason, probably the fact that this theme had more background story, and the bad guys were more the heroes than the police. Of course, I grew up with Classic Space, I got a few Futuron sets, but no Blacktron & the rest. I can imagine those who grew up with these themes loving them.
  6. Huuuuuuuge massive availability of parts right now! They're nearly all there (some cheap, some absurdly expensive, like the new "cut" 1x2 round slopes). Talking about common parts - haven't checked licensed stuff.
  7. Ah. But I'd assume that the ones like the bracket brick are there by mistake (just like you often get variant molds, often not the one you ordered, by mistake). A bracket brick with an open stud on top? I so WISH Lego was doing that :( (or open studs everywhere!) The slope, it'd be weird if it was fake on purpose, those parts costing nothing. I think it's safe to say that the fakes are all around the minifigs (& thus perhaps their accessories), since their prices can reach crazy levels.
  8. 4 reasons I can imagine: -minifigs! I'm glad I'm not into collecting them, because they're what has the most value in a set, and that's because of minifigs that you have so many redundand parts on BL, they're kinda "leftovers" and the prices can go down as there are too many of the same part -average. A rare tiny part can cost 10x more than a large part on BL, but eventually the set's average price/part may be the same (or higher). What's sure is that prices match nowhere, there's no consistency between Lego's (where large parts seem to be typically more expensive) prices & BL prices, and between BL sellers themselves (BL also being the only place where, in the same shop, you'll find used parts at higher prices than new ones) -demand. If a large part is generally cheap on BL, it's because BL is for adult MOCers who generally consider large parts as "cheat pieces". Also large parts are harder to fit in a design, often if you have a large part in your MOC, that's because you started your MOC around it. There's certainly a much higher demand for a tiny useful part than a large cheat piece. I've seen some good MOCs using those Nexo Knights cockpits, but they were interesting because they were new. I bought one, will probably use it once, but because of its limitations (it's nice to have a minifig enclosed in a small solid space, but I didn't really need this part to achieve this), it will probably be considered as a cheat piece without enough advantages, by many. And when you cover it fully, it starts to lose its advantages. Then you have those huge boat parts, I'm not saying it's impossible to make great MOCs around them, but I can't imagine MOCers using boat parts to make.. boats. Used for roofs, windows, yeah, but that stops being original if everyone does it. -sales. A set that goes on heavy sale because no one wanted it as a set, still has value as parts, and is bought by BL sellers Never got any fake on BL. I'm not even aware of any fake around, with the Lego logo, that is. What's the plague on BL is more the quality of used parts. But again, even all chewed up & full of diseases, these are quite often more expensive than new..
  9. The last one is typically what you wanna buy on Bricklink, large parts like this are almost always several times cheaper on BL.
  10. Ah you're right. The shadow mislead me.
  11. Can't identify the part in this upcoming set, at the very front, right behind the gear knob, like 2 parts with a curve, could this be a new ones? If not, I have no idea which one it is.
  12. CGI.. but looking at it again, it's more likely heavily processed pictures. I don't understand why there's so much compositing when he actually built the thing. The dino has to be 3D, I see low poly count in places.
  13. Now that's how The Office project should have been made. A proper build (even if it's 3D) and effort put in the minifig faces. Perhaps there are too many Flintstones project already, this is the best one but the others aren't bad either.
  14. Come on, the average people knows only a few "men of NASA", namely the few ones who put a foot on the moon. And not even them all, only the first few ones at best. Really, 12 men landed on the moon. 12. I only know Armstrong & Aldrin, and I'm sure it's the same for most people. It's not men vs women, it's just that we don't know "people of the NASA", just like no one remembers silver medals. Had a woman put a foot on the moon (would have been unlikely on the US side in that era, though), she would have been one of the few famous ones. I'm waiting for someone to add a "Gays of NASA" entry on Lego Ideas. Lego would be in big troubles if they rejected such a project, in this starting era of excessive positive discrimination. Surely there are gays working at the NASA. Really, it's the ones who claim to want everyone equal who are making their best to segregate everyone. If the feminist behind this project really believed that genders should be treated equally, his(/her, I assume) project should have been "people of the NASA". "Women of the NASA" is misandry just like "Men of the NASA" would have been misogyny. Btw there are quite a few unknown females in sciences, from the past century. A show like Cosmos knows how to put them in the spotlight, more intelligently than this.
  15. There is no such sect as "car lovers", while feminists on the internet are a sect. They're going crazy, it is no surprise that something like this is voted in no time, it's a cult followed by millions. If you followed the craze around "Hugh Mungus", for ex, you will understand how crazy these people (& they aren't only women) are. If this had been named "Men of NASA", can you imagine the uproar among feminists? They would have protested on streets for this. I didn't know that the research institute project was a feminist one btw. Lego didn't take too much risks with the name. I know I wanted to buy it (but it was too late), I wouldn't have wanted it if it had been named "women of science". Btw it's a bit hypocritical for Lego to be into this, when they have Friends & other theme for girls, with specific minifigs. Yesterday's feminists wanted men & women -equal-, and they kinda succeeded. Today's feminists want men & women -the same-, and that's silly. A boy and a girl are different, Lego does know this, they sell toys, they don't sell the same toys to boys & girls. Maybe with this project they're just throwing a bone for feminists to chew, but a real success, for feminists, would be Lego stopping their Friends/Elves line, stopping doing sets with fancy colors for girls. And that's not going to happen, because Lego wanna sell toys, and boys & girls are different.
  16. That is indeed the main & biggest value of Lego Ideas for Lego. But it was already -done-. It doesn't matter whether Lego produces it or not, it, as you wrote, already gathered attention, medias, etc. Producing it is another story. Do you really believe that a big fraction of the ones who voted are gonna buy that set? -unless- it is spammed in the media for a second time, I don't see this happening. Those who voted for this don't care much bout Lego, more about feminism. Their message has passed, I don't see them buying a Lego set now. And I don't see what's positive about this. "People of the Nasa", yeah that would be. Here it's what's called "positive discrimination", it's still discrimination at best. At worst, the message is "women can do it too", you don't see the irony of this message? Sounds more mysoginistic than feminist, to me. The Research Institute was less feminist, first in its title, it wasn't "women in research", plus it's a domain in which you'll find quite a lot of women, objectively. It's even quite possible that there are more women than men in this domain. "Women of Nasa".. come on..
  17. Yeah, because Lego managed to make an average project even worse. Now imagine if they turned this one into even worse.. (but let's get real, it won't pass the selection. That would be really weird, like, if "women of the Nasa" was passing. Oh wait..)
  18. This confirms that Lego Ideas is, sadly, only about ideas, not execution -at all-. While I loved both versions of this show, this is just an insult to it/them. As already said, the building is very poorly done, really bad. It could have been saved by custom-designed & printed minifigs, but no, here too it's just a bunch of mixed parts that bear absolutely no resemblance to the cast, at all. I think I would only recognize Dwigth, except his haircut looks like the one in the UK version, while this entry is about the US version... So I can only imagine people voted for the show, and not this project at all. It's not like Lego will pick it anyway, but it baffles me that 10k people have voted for this. If it's just for the idea, no need for pictures. Write down "<insert favorite show> in Lego" and voilà, here's an idea. Not counting that there is now a better The Office entry (build is much better [well it's the minimum expected, even if it's just a render], cast is slightly more recognizable [at least Kevin is spot on]) https://ideas.lego.com/projects/167307
  19. But are you guys really selling above the 100's of instructions for a model? I mean, the market doesn't seem to be huge(?)
  20. What a sad day for Lego Ideas.
  21. Ah so I'm not crazy, that brick with 2 knobs wasn't there before! I was starting thinking Mandela effect here.
  22. So B&P is back online. Quite a lot added, and as usual, nothing available. Except for some new tiles from the latest big modular, like 2x2 quarter round tiles for cheap enough.
  23. 15 days left to vote for it, for the honor. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/112665 Interestingly, both AT-ST's on Lego Ideas ended up with nearly the same amount of votes, 2500. Which would mean that people really do vote for the idea more than the build (as both are really different), which is weird considering Lego just released another one. I just grabbed a couple of the new 1/4 disk tiles in LBG, which can be used to round the corners on the top plate. I haven't found a use for the other new parts from the Assembly Square on it.
  24. It's nice but it's a little bigger, trust me that 4x4 feet won't work on mine. As for sticking toes to 3x3's, it's possible but it would be a challenge to preserve the roundness. So I went for 3x3 disks (while the previous version had 3x3 radars) with no toes. The parts that you used in yours is too a better fit, I had considered using it, but here again it looked too big. Hi, do you mean that you can print tiles?
  25. While I like the idea of the gold ingot on the front, I don't like the bulk added by the 2x2 tile. I think I'll go for this instead, however I'm out of ideas to cover the hole below:
