Pretty sure that kids are the first ones to be online for that. Yes Lego (& toys in general) catalogs were precious for me as a kid too. But back then it was the only way to know about upcoming sets, even ahead of TV ads. With channels like Jangbricks, those catalogs look like a sad thing from another era, to me.
-
Why not? I believe that Lego works like this: they produce "common" parts in very large batches, not just in quantities made for just one or two upcoming sets. And perhaps designers are even told to favor those new batches of "trending parts" in future sets (perhaps by the estimated price of such parts in target cost of the set). I also assume that licensed/printed/more unique parts are produced in quantities calculated for the set they're made for, with only a slight extra amount for replacements, mistakes, etc. Otherwise it's quite obvious that 1x2 plates in most colors always exist in Lego's warehouses regardless of sets that are produced, & I doubt that B&P would put a dent in those large stocks.
-
Just wondering, how are official catalogs still relevant? I mean Lego is always the last source to get news about upcoming sets, plus they release stuff all the time. So what would be in an official catalog that wouldn't already be old news?

Indeed they've removed the document as well now, I guess it's definitely gone now. But that option was there, and it's exactly what you were looking for, it was made to buy in bulk. It even made the news when Lego refused to sell parts for political reasons, after which they stopped requiring you to tell what you were planning to do with the parts. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2016/apr/28/lego-sell-bricks-chinese-artist-ai-weiwei-mistake When you order by phone, they don't sound like they don't wanna sell you in bulk, and I doubt that Lego would expect you to buy 50x the same set if you want 50x one of its parts. To me it sounds more like it's a too neglectable part of their market for them to care. The intent of B&P is to sell parts, though - not to replace missing parts. The question is how do you abuse it, by ordering too small lots, or too big lots? We don't even know, as Lego is unclear as for what it's designed for. With Bricklink it's pretty clear, you abuse sellers by ordering too many small lots (but they have ways around that if they don't like it). But what is Lego afraid of? I think they don't like people buying parts to resell them, thus, bulk orders. Besides, closing B&P would open a large door to Chinese clones. I'm really ready to buy clones of parts that Lego has produced & refuses to produce again - I don't wanna shell up to 10eur for a little 32123 bush in black, while that part normally costs like 1 cent to buy & most likely nearly nothing to produce. But I'd buy a pack of clones, if only the chinese stopped cloning common parts while you can buy the real ones for cheap.

Does the tile-in-clip technique damage the parts?
anothergol replied to NathanR's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think the question is more if it damages the tile. I'd say it probably does to a degree, since the tile isn't round, it's pressure on its corners. But I doubt it'd be visible. Now, since it's about tiles, it's usually about printed tiles. I'd be more worried about scratching the paint while inserting it.- 9 replies

Does the tile-in-clip technique damage the parts?
anothergol replied to NathanR's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've seen it in 2 other sets I believe, as a letter-printed tile standing on desks. If Lego does it, it most likely doesn't stress the tile. But it's not hard to get the tile into the clip, you do it at an angle, then you rotate it. Some say it's valid because tiles have a groove, which is quite possible. The day Lego started doing it, I went for it for the "eyelids" of my AT-ST, but I try to avoid it. Oh and I've also read that Lego now does it after having redesigned the tile+clip (which I find pretty ugly, especially with that nasty sprue mark. Probably why prices for the old version have rised), but I doubt it, because the interior has to be the same. I mean, bar-sized is bar-sized. Perhaps the new one is safer if you try to insert it without rotating, like kids will probably do.- 9 replies

1. install the Lego Digital Designer, get used to it, take your time (there's also Stud.io that isn't that usable, but good for renders, and also Mecabricks if you're a true masochist) 2. only once you're done with your first design, buy the needed parts on Bricklink & Bricks&Pieces After some time, you will start to know what kind of parts you use, & sart stocking them a little. I wouldn't recommend "playing with bricks". That's what kids do, but obviously if you don't have a very large amount of parts, your stuff just won't compare to MOCs out there. If you start to make compromises just because you don't own the part that would fit best, it's gonna suck. It's also much much easier to do stuff in the LDD. I also wouldn't recommend buying sets for parts, you will quickly understand that even if you buy something on sale & you get parts at 5cts each, it's not worth it if 80% of the parts are stuff that you're never gonna use.

That form that allows you to buy parts in 200+ quantities, it looks like the link to it is now gone, even though the form is still there: https://www.lego.com/r/www/r/service/-/.../lego_large_parts_order_form_en.docx First question, has anyone ever used it? Second question, I had placed a B&P order for the new 35787 triangle tiles, they're above 20cts on B&P. Haven't even received my order yet, so meanwhile I got them from Bricklink, where they went for as low as 10cts as soon as they appeared. They all appeared at once & in large quantities, thus not from sets, they were quite obviously bought in bulk. But if a BL seller can sell them at 10cts & still make a profit, does that mean that buying in bulk gets you the parts THAT cheaper? Last question, I read in some forum that the bulk orders weren't processed by the same warehouse. Does that mean that there is a chance to get parts that you can't get by phone? More precisely, I'm looking for as many 29119/29120 pairs in LBG as I can get. To get ONE FRIGGING PAIR, I'd have to shell out like 400eur for that Boba & Han Brickheadz exclusive. Lego's support doesn't even seem to have that set listed, on the phone they tell you they can't sell the part because it hasn't been released yet. Perhaps they only produced a small batch for that Brickheadz exclusive, but I doubt it, as it's now quite a generic part that will be in future sets (the question being when, since I haven't spotted it in any of the anounced sets). I wish Lego went into the monthly box business. Which MOCer wouldn't subscribe to a box with a good amount of all the new parts in it?

I agree with this. I like the design but it's the first thing that struck me.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
anothergol replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
I have an order from march 19 not shipped yet, but for some strange reason, a new order I've placed 2 days ago, has already been shipped. Part of it, that is, but not the sets as I expected, really the B&P. So perhaps the delays are due to some parts that need new batches produced? -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
anothergol replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
For what it's worth, for those who wonder what can be ordered by phone & what can't, I believe the rule is "when the set(s) that contains the part has been added to the Lego shop". That is, even if the part has been produced, exists, & can already be bought in sets in some stores, Lego won't sell it, you'll have to wait. Other than that, I haven't been refused a part from a set that had been released in the Lego shop (but then again I've never asked for licensed parts). I believe Lego's support has release/availability dates for every part, they know much more than what we see in B&P. They won't give out info, but that's a valid way to know if a part is scheduled to be made in a specific color. -

These I'd have paid gold for just a few when they were anounced, now Bricklink is filled with them & they're cheap. -

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
anothergol replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
While Lego often has several numbers for the same part, also keep in mind that they sometimes do it on purpose to differenciate solid colors from transparent ones, not the same plastic. But I wish Lego simply gave up with their broken Bricks&Pieces & integrated itself into Bricklink. It would become the most famous BL shop, and I'm sure Lego would get a nice deal as for fees. I also wish Lego Ideas got a new section where to vote for recolors. If a recolor gets enough votes, a batch gets produced & gets injected into B&P (or ideally, Bricklink). This said, I don't really know if Lego really wanna sell us parts. Sometimes they make it look like it's a business like their sets, sometimes you feel like you cheat the system when you buy a part. -

yeah, but there's a high risk that your whole order is gone. Their shop is still terribroken and requires a screen cap of the order before any attempt to checkout. -
Btw I'll probably have the next version ready sooner than I expected, as the new 2x2 triangle tile already exists in LBG. I've already updated the rest of the model with this year's new parts.

Spotted the triangle in white & LBG(!!) here:

The claws for the feet are a perfect fit, but is that Lego? Which part is it?
-
Yeah but well.. even if that doubled the votes.. (but thanks for the support) While the glasses here have tricky stud inversion because I wanted a tile instead of the underside of a plate at the top, you could really just go with fully inverted build, and then it's pretty straightforward, from the pictures. I don't think the instructions will help that much if it's not Dexter that you wanna build

As for unlicensed parts, not many of the recent parts, but: -29120 pairs are now affordable (used to be a crazy 1eur each). No grey one, though :( (LBG one still exclusive to that limited SW Brickheadz) -34103 (double jumper, but only in black) -32828 (was already orderable by phone, now listed) -

If only Lego could bring back what they killed, in a set like this. (not exactly my era of space theme, though. I'd want this with legoland space) And sure they released this, but.. meh.. [but still better than nexo]
