Very well put. I too feel that being aware is better than being a scammer's easy victim. Offering certain bits as spares may also be in LEGO best interest or else they risk losing at least some revenue to other companies like the one from Flörsheim. If they make enough to be able to pay designers and run a legit company that is paying taxes in Germany, then I'm sure we're talking about a decent amount of money.

When looking at LEGO sets at a physical store I never judge the box by it's weight, because I feel that they've been making the instructions thicker and heavier for a reason. I always try to think about what would potentially sit in front of me after building a set. Kind of like Jang sometimes does it. "The volume of stuff", as he puts it. However, I do look up parts lists and when I notice that LEGO used panels instead of bricks and real windows as a cost cutting measure, then the set automatically becomes a lot less interesting to me. I've got 164 1x2x2 trans black panels left over from parting out four 60197 trains. Those panels are completely useless to me and not really worth much on eBay. Real train windows on the other hand would have had a much better resale value. Of course I wouldn't have sold those.

Well done. Trying to fit a motor in there would be quite the challenge.
-
That's why I replaced those windows with real ones. I was waiting for LEGO to officially re-release the Emerald Night but gave up hope and bit the bullet. When the Emerald Night was available I didn't buy it, because I didn't have the funds for three of them and I really disliked the brick built doors. Nowadays I'm so bored and desperate that I'm almost done rebricking it. And a 2nd one in different colours. The black bogie plates are a real problem, though. I do have more than enough yellow ones from four parted out 60197 passenger trains but don't want the yellow to shine through.

I started building my tan coloured Trainstation back in 2007 when tan bricks were kind of rare still. Using old dark grey for the 16 studs deep and 192 studs long (tiled) platform made it even harder to cough up the funds for a single project. Then dark red became more readily available and I started hoarding dark red bricks and old light grey tiles... I still don't have a finished trainstation.
-
That looks great. Thanks for sharing the instructions.
-
That looks quite nice. Do you happen to know how many of those dark red 1x2 bricks you used for that building? I have about 800 of those myself and am not sure whether or not I should get more for a similar project. Yeah, I could use LDD or Stud.io to find out but I'd rather just start building with real bricks and I don't want another unfinished project sitting around forever.

I wasn't going to talk about clone stuff on here anymore, but since this is about spare parts and not about cloned sets... Before spending 200€+ on those 30 tan train windows, I got some from China. I only replaced them, because I didn't want any Lepin in my otherwise pure LEGO collection. I'm glad that I had bought close to 200 brand new glass pieces about a decade ago. 7,50€ LEGO train window to the left. Lepin train window (and glass piece) to the right. Sorry about the lighting. It's 6:20 in the morning, so no natural daylight, yet. Same. I bought five of the Hogwarts Express sets mainly for the large wheels but I also liked the figures. Now I'm not sure, if I should open them or not.

Yeah, Scott, dude, Mr. #BronyCon 2017, I'm aware that you like to hide behind these walls of text. Whenever someone has the audacity to ask for nicer train stuff, castles or Pirate sets, you will make sure to pop in and tell us how stupid our requests are. Always trying your best to ruin it for us LEGO fans who were born before the year 1991. If you don't like these themes, then why not stay out of here and keep posting about friends sets and bionicle masks. The problem is that they aren't selling the essential pieces on their webshop. There would be much less criticism, if they did. I don't need City trains to be on the same level as the Creator Expert trains. Also, it remains to be seen, if they will actually sell the glass pieces for the doors on B&P. Here's a nice example:
-
No, they're really not. To me it feels as if they're making fun of us. Yes, that thing has train doors and I will try to buy those glass pieces, but that's about it. That is NOT a set that any sane person would want to part out for the train parts and since it's a rather expensive set due to it's app, the more interesting bits and pieces will end up being expensive on the secondary market. No train buffers, no train windows, no 6x28 train base in black... and I would be shocked, if the two bogie plates were black. Even that school bus would have looked way better with train doors and windows. I just spent 200€+ on 30 tan train windows, because I noticed that prices seem to be going up towards the 10€ mark. I also ended up spending 60€+ for a full set (6 pieces) of large black train wheels, a few years ago. You still can't get them from B&P, even though they're in the new Hogwarts Express. That same Hogwarts Express that you're only allowed to buy five copies of. You may look at the picture of those wheels in the B&P listing all day long, but the "order" button is greyed out. Same goes for the tan train windows in the 10194 listing. I still need at least 16 bogie plates in black. They're 6€+/each nowadays, while the ugly yellow ones can be had for 0.65€/each. Stoked.

And you know that because you're actually working for LEGO, right?

Obsession with build times
3797 replied to HeresJohnnny's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There are people who pay others to build their sets. But yeah, putting 42082 together took me about 14 hours and I enjoyed almost every minute of it. I usually take my time and with regular sets I often make sure that the LEGO logos on the studs are all facing in the same direction. -
42100 Liebherr R9800 Excavator
3797 replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'd rather get a 2nd 42082. The video of the Liebherr driving up that small pile of dirt was pretty pathetic. -
Looking that up should take less than five seconds as long as you aren't on dial-up.
-
He also needs to make a mold for a 8 stud long straight track piece. Here's a quote from the most recent kickstarter campaign:
-
Glad to hear that they are selling well. I too want more of those. While this kind of sounds a bit dick-ish, I have to agree. Convincing others not to buy your competitors' inferior products would be a bit easier, if we knew what is being worked on. I do understand that the release date is not yet set in stone and that you may not want to hear the old "are we there yet" question all the time but telling us would give potential customers something to look forward to. However, "5 molds" does sound as if it's the switches. I guess, I better start saving my pennies.
-
The only other thing that I remember you showing on here is the 1x2 Technic brick with the larger hole for the ball bearing.
-
Power Pickup wheels? Probably not. Half length straight track would make sense, if it's needed for the switches.
-
I'm not against them but I don't need to have them in my collection, either. Especially not at 3.99€ for a blind bag. When I bought my series 3 figures I was approached by a security guy who thought it was suspicious that I spent an hour going through multiple CMF store displays. Awkward situation. Didn't buy any other CMF until I got my complete box of Harry Potter figures in a 20% off sale.

I received my R56 track, yesterday. That was the last package that I received in 2018. My wish for 2019 is that R104 switches will be made available. Any updates (I don't use Facebook or any other Zuckerberg "service"/product) on that front? Also: Still says "coming 2018". You may want to update that one.

Are you related to Aanchir? Said shop owner is in contact with other shop owners. He mentioned it multiple times. He also gets feedback from his customers who keep asking for certain things like trains and castles. He gained quite a large following on YouTube. The comments on those videos are evidence enough that there is demand. You can read pretty much the same comments on promobricks and elsewhere. Also, he's not the only shop owner who's been talking about these things. He just happens to be well known and doesn't have to suck up to LEGO in order to get free review sets. It also matches what I heard from my co-workers and elsehere. In the past few years I heard countless times that kids wanted pirate ships, castles and trains. Not once have I heard about a kid asking for the remote controlled "Batmobile". My friend's 4 year old has a Playmobil tractor. But yeah, a 100€ remote controlled Batmobile that consits of a whopping 321 pieces and doesn't even include a proper remote was such a great idea... And no, I'm not specifically talking about Creator Expert trains. I told you guys countless times how badly they were marketed (not available in regular stores, for example) and that they were released shortly after the height of the economic crisis of 2007/08, when most people worried more about paying the rent for their apartment and putting food on the table. Those who wanted an Emerald Night with 3 waggons had to spend 300€. On toys. On the internet. In 2009. The rent for my apartment was less than 130€/month, back then. City trains are the problem. They aren't well designed and there's no affordable "push along train" like the old 7715. In fact, I feel that the current Duplo trains are much better sets than the current City ones. The last good "playline" trains were the Metroliner, Load N' Haul Railroad, Freight Rail Runner, the 60052 Cargo Train and to some extend (badly marketed) the Lone Ranger Constitution Train. All the other ones either weren't mentioned in the main catalog or were badly designed and thus not much fun to play with or look at. Many reviewers of sets 60197 and 60198 complained about the lack of proper doors and thus the lack of an important play feature. And of course you do have official sales numbers for the trains that you claim didn't sell well enough, don't you?

[REVIEW] 42082 - Rough Terrain Crane
3797 replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I usually don't quote pictures, but in the one I did quote there's a bag with regular red Technic bricks. Are you sure you didn't just overlook something? As far as I remember those are only in the bag that you said was missing. Maybe there was a wrong number on one of your bags. My set had a bag number 9 that was missing the "." which is why I thought it was a 6. I was wondering why I had so many pieces left over. I built this set on the 25th. It's definitely one of my LEGO highlights of 2018. I bought it for the parts but may end up buying a 2nd set and keeping the crane assembled. Even my mom liked it. What I don't like about this set: stickers instead of prints orange and green bits, blue pins, red and yellow axles where they don't belong/stick out visually two rubber bands that aren't easily replaceable only one function usable at a time no mention of how to take off the top section when you want to build the B model (as far as I'm aware) -
That would be 1/20th of a cent or less a piece. In other words: You're getting at least 20 pieces for just 1 cent. Or 2000 pieces or more for $1. How are you getting those prices?
-
Typical Aanchir post, lol. There's a well known German shop owner on YouTube. He keeps mentioning that Duplo and Star Wars are dead. As Mylenium pointed out: Castle (as well as well made trains, btw) would sell in Europe. Pirates, too.
