  1. Hi there, yesterday my son and I sat down to build the 75083 set... as always with the system scaled sets its basically a great model, that catches the essence of the vehicle nicely but could use an extra 50 or so parts to really finish it off. Thats what I did in the afternoon looking at the concept drawings and learning from other mods Here's my solution: I mainly focused on the pretty open backside of the "head" closing the nasty gaps and adding a little greebling to the engine area. Here's a shot without the added detail (brackets already attached on the sides) And two shots of the parts needed for this: I also added some detail to the underside of the engine to close it up and added some pipes to mimic hydraulic cylinders at the legs. Then the legs... they are far to thin on the top, so there had to be a way to "beef" them up a little: Again, the parts: As you might have seen I also toned down on the yellow parts... as much as I love those shiny bright yellow parts I think, they took it too far with the AT-DP, so toning it down a little only adds more realism to the model. The additional tile-piece here and there makes it less "studdy" and closes the technic beams at the lower legs. I hope you like my modifications and leave some feedback for my next project.
  2. Thank you for all the feedback! As I'm a massive fan of greebling and modding bricklinked models I'd rather find solutions or workarounds for the most expensive parts... but I think some of the large plates are extremely expensive.
  3. Unfortunately not... I already claimed the money back from Paypal, they wait for a reply from the seller now...
  4. Hi there! I was just wondering... the "small" ISD 75055 is at EUR 89,99 acceptably cheap at Toy'r'us right now... does anyone know if it has enough useful parts to start bricklinking an 10300? (in LBG of course) Maybe there are other sets, that are more useful for this task? Or is it even cheaper to get a used original oder already bricklinked set at all?
  5. Still plenty in the german stores... S@H, Toys'r'us... almost everybody got them... I don't think it'll retire so soon, it's just a too great set.
  6. Thank you regimus, I fear I didnt take any pictures of the built... Tinkered around two days with the cockpit using the mentioned pictures from fbtb. I also dread taking it appart right now, as it is rather fragile, but I could take some more photos of it in time. The top layer can be guessed really easy but the lower layers are more of a hit and miss, I tried several solutions but always ended up with too much layers and a too thick cockpit not maintainig the bullet-shape of it.
  7. Got two C-3PO (with red arm) Polybags today at Legoland (free with a SW purchase of 55€ or more ) I chose "more" and bought a UCS Tie, Reys Speeder and some Constraction figures...
  8. I always trash Megablocks and such sometimes mixed into bigger BL lots...
  9. Peter: "he-he-he-he...." ;-) I paid 330€ for the Shuttle... with Paypal, so at least there's hope they'll return the money to me in time...
  10. Bought a new Tydirium UCS 10212 last Saturday, but I think I got scammed with it, as it still hasn't shown up in the mail... ;-(
  11. Great build, Soul! Congratulations! I really like how the "stock" Falcon looks, so I did just some minor changes to greebling and such... As much as I love Daves major changes to mandibles and enginesection, I fear I'm lacking both skill and parts to tackle this task.
  12. Thats where I got the idea and a lot of inspiration for further mods - ScottishDave ist the man!
  13. Yes, that's correct... all the top plates of the main hull are more or less just layed on - held only by small clips or axles. No problem with a standing model, but might get tricky if you're planning on hanging it on the wall vertically. I did a brickbuild spoke for the radar dish with robot arms... looks really nice imho and adds a lot of detail. (see link in the posting above mine ;-))
  14. Damn... Just bought a 10212... New/sealed but with a slightly damaged box... 329€ shipped seemed all right... Hopefully it'll arrive next week.
  15. Really great collection, Soul! The shuttle is awesome, so is the Snowspeeder (my favorite ship from the OT)... But both are so expensive now, I couldn't bring myself to throw this much money down... (Got the X, Y and B-Wing, Slave 1, Sandcrawler, Obi Wan's Starfighter, the Falcon, Death Star and the Ewok Village right now... I plan to get the Tie Fighter next year and hold my fingers crossed for a ISD relaunch...)
  16. Regimus, your modded Y-Wing really catches the proportions of the studio model. Very nice work! I must say, though that I'm pretty fond of the more elongated approach TLG took on the model. It is a great UCS, no matter what... question ist, what to buy next! (got a decent offer on a 10225 R2-D2 - but having already build/bought three UCS in 4 weeks might really break the bank after all... )
  17. Got the Ewok Village and two Advent calendars from Legoland last sunday... They didn't have the UCS Tie or all Constraction figures in stock... Seems they're letting stock drop for the end of the season....
  18. I did a little modding to the pilots seat and fitted a pilot in there... looks very nice, although not much in scale... I still like it!
  19. Very interesting... a shame this could only be build with new white bricks or there will be different shades of yellowing among them... I don't know, if that would look good...
  20. Just wanted to show a quick update... got the set last week (pre-assembled) and finished it today... everything exept a tan 2x8 plate is accounted for - looks pretty neat! I couldn't believe how big it was going to be finished! (It came with a UCS-Sticker reprint, that looks all right but is a little worn...I did my own stickers for the cockpit, looks fine to me.)
  21. Great progress... I used a lot of time on the frame myself, not to miss a step in the instructions... It gets easier with some time. I can strongly advise to have a lot of 2x3 and 2x4 plates in old gray handy for the top plates... The covers are sometimes four plates thick and use lot of different sized and shaped plates. Imho it looks brilliant to have a lot of different shades build into them to make it look more "real"
  22. I must say I envy you for your upcoming building experience... For me its the single best LEGO model, hands down! Enjoy it!
  23. Thank you guys! Bob, I didn't think you went too crazy with your B-Wing... I was really admiring your pictures on my way, but decided it was just too much effort for me to go all the way and rather took some shortcuts... Soul, I feel exactly the same... Original sets should stay original (at least my UCS-sets do... I do take some liberties with "normal" sets, though) nice to read someone who can relate to this thought.
  24. Excellent, this looks really spot-on. Thank you for the great pictures, good way to recreate the mod for others (like me)...
  25. I was always very fond of this oddball Rebel Alliance starfighter... A very bold but also sleek and streamlined design. The system scaled version, I bought last year, was nice but didn't quench my thirst... I knew, there was an UCS out there, but I read very bad reviews and a lot of rants about it... and the cockpit area wasn't really "good" to say the least... I got an offer for a sealed set at 250 Euro shipped, which seemed decent, but I already had my mind set on doing some small and some major changes to the set, so the premium to get an original was imho wasted money! Bricklinking!!! I kind of like Bricklink and even if its tiresome at times you can always get great stuff from a lot of nice people sharing the hobby or the business... my last project was the UCS Deathstar Hangar... So I decided on getting the parts I needed which took about 3 months and I started looking for applicable mods, but there are only a handful... finally I found a great cockpit mod at fbtb that I wanted to integrate, and I made A LOT of smaller changes as I went along lengthening building time to about 2 full days. After all I got all the parts plus spares, original instructions, canopy and stickers for around 175 Euro... I really like the result, and think its a great rendition of this classic trilogy ship. See for yourself: What did I do? - the cockpit was completely reworked to get the look and the size about right... I put in Ten-Nunb to have a pilot working there, even if he's not in scale... - backside of the cockpit was worked on, some of the gaps were closed, the tan-colored parts were swapped for DBG - the neck was streamlined and plated and I added greeblies - the round parts in front of the engine, that are known to leave nasty gaps were closed with small technic pins and a clever plating design... - the topsides of the wings were plated (one sloped tile is still missing, because one of my BL-orders was short one piece...) I left the undersides without plating to keep the perfect shilouette of the wings intact... plating would make the too chubby, imho. - I tweaked a lot of fine details with small greebling parts, making it more interesting to look at - Used some old gray and old dark gray parts to give it that used-universe look - I switched all colorful parts that would be visible in the finished model to gray, which makes it much more realisic... (I kept some of the peeking parts in tan in, because I think it fits nice to have some discoloration here and there...)
