  1. That was my first attempt, but could not make it to work; not sure to really know why. The gearbox is different, maybe that is the reason. With the final model, I would say the calibration would not work anyway because of the opening/closing of the blade: the motor is too strong for the wormscrew-based mechanism. When at the end, it may unmount the blade rather than stall the motor :s
  2. Dear all, I would like to present my latest MOC, a one-set MOC for the Cat D-11. It was my first experience with the Powered-Up system, which I have to admit, was a bit painful :p Yet here it comes: The snow groomer is fully functional, featuring a configuration similar to the D11: two independent angular motors for the tracks, and two large motors to control a gearbox distributing four functions: raising/lowering the blade, opening/closing the blade, turning the blade, raising/lowering the tiler. By construction, the four functions cannot be operated simultaneously. The model also features a working L6 engine and tiler. They are both linked to a central differential, so that they will not move if the two tracks operate in opposite directions, but I guess snow groomers do not really turn on site like excavators or bulldozers, do they? The hood can be opened to show the engine, and the cab can be tilt to access the battery box. And here is a video: Instructions (of a further improved version) are available at rebrickable!
  3. This was indeed a challenge! After several attempts, I ended up using a "hinge" like in an articulated hauler or frontloader. This is why the turret can only turn 180° and not 360°, this was a compromise between functionality and build: (screenshot from the instructions. The vertical arrow shows the transmission going through the hinge. The second mechanism, on the right, is for the steering.)
  4. Hi there, Here is a MOC I have been working on during 2020. I just completed the instructions (available at Rebrickable), which was the occasion to give it the final touch. It is a one set MOC, made of only parts from the 42078 Mack Anthem. It features a wheeled excavator and a trailer: Features of the excavator: Steering with HOG from the back Manual stabilizers Front blade with mini-LA, controlled from the back 180° rotation of the turret Articulated boom, controlled from the turret (2 LA + 1 mini-LA) L6 fake engine in the turret, driven from the rear train (with differential), with a transmission going through the turret Openable cabin door and motor hood Features of the trailer: Tipping of the bed (via gear rack) In the end there are quite some parts left, but very little gears.   5. Yes, there is a factor of 1/2 (+ another 8/24 reduction), so that the final rotations in the drive train are 28.33, 36.67, 65, and 101.67, respectively. No, just because there was a crane. I'm not sure such a model exists in real... I just wanted to find a use of that M motor :) The A model is a four wheel drive, but there are only two differentials (the A model does not have a central one). Since I used one for coupling the motors, I could only do a two-wheel drive.
  6. Dear all, With the arrival of the new Volvo set, I felt like rebuilding my old 42030 front loader. The problem was that I still had a MOC built, standing in the cupboard since 2016 :s So I finally built some instructions for it (available at Rebrickable), and made a short video. Here is a presentation. The C-Model is a Jeep-like car (with Volvo colors ;) ) As the A model, it is fully motorized. The L and XL motors are connected to the transmission, and the servomotor ensures the steering (with Ackermann geometry, and working steering wheel): The two driving motors are connected by a differential, which allows combining their rotations. If we note x = 220 rpm the speed of the XL motor and y = 390 rpm the speed of the L motor), we can emulate 4 gears: L forward, XL backward: V = y - x = 390 - 220 = 170 rpm, XL forward, L off: V = y = 220 rpm, L forward, XL off: V = 390 rpm, XL forward, L forward: V = 390 + 220 = 610 rpm. The differential is also connected to a V6 fake engine, and the rear axle is pendular: Finally, the M motor is used to power a crane: Here is a small video to show it in action: Hope you like it!
  7. Thank you all for the positive feedback! As for the steering wheel: yes, I did spent some time on this part, much more than on the transmission! But I could not come with a way to have the wheel not vertical. There is just not enough parts! Another frustration is the front: I tried to have a hood that is not fully horizontal. I could make one, but using some of the parts of the exhaust. I then realised that this very simple pipe gives a lot of identity to the model, more than the hood... si I kept it. B-models are a lot about compromises!

Hi there, Just made this simple alternate from the 42102 Mini Claas Xerion: It features a working steering wheel (using a direction with links, unlike the A model), and a working engine with a rear transmission. The LA holder is used as a cylinder and the piston uses the same technique as introduced in the 9393-B model. Building instructions are available on Rebrickable.
  9. Hi, I am very happy you enjoyed the instructions! I will look into the errors and fix them. Normally the mpd file should open with stud.io, at least it worked on my machine but will double-check with the uploaded version. I did not use stud.io in the end because I was not happy with the resolution of images in the PDF output and went back to LDpub. By the way, I considered making it into a premium MOC, but given that it took me 2 years to generate those instructions, I don't think it will economically be worth it ;) It also very satisfying and rewarding to know that others thought it was of interest enough to spend time building it. Next is a jeep model made of 42030... first have to remove dust :)

  15. Hi Eurobrick folks, I would like to present my first Mindstorm Ev3 creation: a combine harvester, which I named C-HARV3ST3R, following the Ev3 terminology. It is more than a year that the project was completed, and it stood for some time on a shelf before I finally made instructions (soon on Rebrickable). I then take the opportunity to present it here: It is remote controlled with the IR beacon, including steering and raising the unloader using the middle button. The header can be raised using a lever on the right side. There are two positions: when down (harvesting mode), the small wheels drive the reel. When up (driving mode), the reel does not turn anymore, and a lever push the touch sensor. The program can therefore "know" whether we are in driving or harvesting mode, based on the state of the touch sensor. The two modes differer by the following: in harvesting mode, the combine harvester drives more slowly and no reverse driving is allowed. In addition, a counter records how much we have harvested, a gauge (in %) is displayed on the screen at the top of the machine (where the actual tank is on real machines). When the tank is full, no further move is allowed and a "bip" is emitted. One need to either go in driving mode, or to unload the harvest by raising the unloader. In driving mode, the combine harvester moves faster and can move reverse (slow speed, emitting a warning "bip").   17. Hi, I made a C-Model for the 42048 Kart :) It features a Formula 1 with working direction (controlled by HOG) and a fake engine with two gears (which can be switched from the back). The hood can be opened. There are also two exhausts and a position light in the back. It is quite fun to play with and the steering radius is much better than the one of A-model :) Here are a few pictures: The HOG is in place of the steering wheel (small yellow part). Steering mechanism is similar to B-Model, but more flat (it is only 1 stud high). The gear box is taken from A-Model and features the same ratios. The switch is on the back however (could not really put it in the cockpit :p ). Any comment welcome ! Will post instructions on rebrickable as soon as possible.
  18. Hi there, Just discovered the C-Model index, and realized that I have a few creations I could add to the list... 'cause I love C models :) Here is one I did some time ago with the 42035 set. Instructions are available on rebrickable. This is a small quad, featuring a fake engine driven by the rear wheels. The rear axle is also pendular, and the steering works.   19. Dear all, Many thanks for the positive comments! As for the suspensions, I did try to build rod suspensions with horizontal shock absorbers, but I have to admit I could not have it work. It seems to me that it's rather hard to achieve a good result without dedicated parts for that :s As a compromise, I tried to keep the shock absorbers as horizontal as possible (where 8880-B had them much more vertical, like in a regular car...) I will certainly make a LDD model and generate instructions that I will deposit on rebrickable. But it will probably take me a bit of time... Note: I originally got 8070 for the B model :) I think model A did not get that much attention because it did not fit what people usually expect of a technic supercar: real gear box, and mechanics as close as possible that of a real car. A gearbox opening doors and hoods was certainly fancy but not that realistic... NB: while I was finishing this MOC, Serge S also deposited instructions for a formula 1 8070 alternate on rebrickable, you might want to check it out!
  20. Dear all, I would like to present a one-set MOC I realised based on the 8070 supercar. It was done after COP 21: an environmentally friendly alternate that does not use the PFS elements of the original set :D While deprived of PFS, this Formula 1 features quite a few interesting functions: 4 independent suspensions Direction by HOG and steering wheel A V8 fake engine A 2 speed gear box (accessible from the cockpit) A moveable spoiler (gear under the right side) An openable engine cover So basically, that is more than what the 42000 set offers ;) (yet with no optional motorisation) Here are a few pictures: A view from the cockpit: Opening the engine cover: The spoiler and V8 engine: From above: From below, showing the mechanics for opening the engine cover and moving the spoiler: Here are the left-over parts: Hope you like it :) Any comment most welcome.
  21. I was lucky enough (I think) to enter my dark age in the mid 90s, and got out of it in 2008. Therefore, I missed rather little, because I really do not like the technic sets from the 2000s One set though, which I'm still chasing is the "super street sensation" The other one that I missed (because I was not born) is the 856... (just missed (again) an auction on that one, grrr) Outside technic, that would be the Robie House. I did not buy it when available because of the price. Then I got really into the architecture series and got more familiar with the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Now that I have accumulated books on the topic, the Robie House is haunting me...
  22. Hi, thanks for the nice comments :) @Tomik: I have not made any CAD model yet, but I estimate the part use to 2/3 of the original set. There are a few beams and the 2 panels left, so that one can build a small ramp to play with the motorcycle...
  23. Dear all, Here are a few pictures of a C-Model I did from the 42035 truck. When I bought the set, I thought there should be all enough to build a small motorcycle: Together with his little bro 8045-B: The motorcycle has exhaust pipe, a cap for the gas tank, some foot pegs. Pin holes of connectors mimic speedometers, 4-axle with stops suggests front lights. The model features 3 functions: Direction (!) One-cylinder engine driven by back wheel (16t + chain, 12t-20t) Sidecar's top opens via the spare wheel (16t-16t) For that last function, I could not use knobs as they are too bulky and prevent the top from opening wide enough. The sidecar can easily be separated from the motorcycle, as it holds by only two pins with friction. The sidecar has a small foldable sidestand. The one-cylinder engine is not centered (it is 2 studs wide, while the motorcycle is 5 studs large). The 20t is directly connected to the crank shaft, which allows the full thing to remain compact, a necessity at this scale. Here are a few more pictures: Any comment welcome!
