[MOCs] The Workhorse and the Racehorse of the Rebel Fleet
PaulPrime replied to DarthTwoShedsJackson's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Sir, that is the most beautiful Workhorse I have ever seen. I am almost tempted to try to replicate it. In your expert opinion, does it worth the cost to purchase the latest one from TLG and mod it, or shuld I go directly to the secondary market? -
Thanks again for your nice comments. I understand what you say about the cabin and I can't find a way to make it more accurate. I will think about it, but in the meantime I have made some more minor mods. Landing gear! It is not pretty, it is not very useful, but it is retractable and it works. I had to cover the missiles. And this is how the landing gear was done, using what I have at hand.

Thank you for your comments, Japanbuilder. Now that you mention the film model I was looking for some good pictures to compare and continue improving the Lego model if possible, but I was able to find only this picture. Aside from the colors and landing gear I think the model is very accurate. I have to add one plate with handle to the floor of the cabin, and I wil start thinking about a landing gear using the technic pieces between each module.

Thank you very much, added to my wanted list!

I was not interested in this set until I saw it half priced. I intended to buy it as a cheap source of pieces but I ended liking it a lot and spending time modifying it to make it cooler. Yes, it is that good. Most of the changes were done for aesthetic reasons, like filling gaps, adding tiles or the steering bar for the pilot. Changing how the top part opens was a must because the original hinges took away too much of the interior space. I will let the pictures speak by themselves. The mods are not too difficult to replicate, but let me know if you would like to see more pictures or further explanations. I hope you liked it.

I got the resistance transport because of that 50% discount as well. Lego sent me an email informing about the offer and I couldn't resist. I don't really like the ship (or the movie) but it will be a cheap source of pieces.

They have the right level of evilness to me as well. Thanks for your comment! Thanks! This is the Bricklink store where I bought the custom figures: brickkit store

I think it's time to show my updated figures, now that I finally got the proper hair for Thrawn. I have to say that with a bit of patience the eraser method works perfectly well to remove undesired printing. It's a bit cloudy today so the quality of the picture is not the best, but I hope it's enough. Thrawn and Yularen have custom printing in torso and head, and the leg printing was removed. All the rest are official, unmodded parts.

Video if anyone's curious how the ISD Tyrant opens up

This. And I have to say I enjoyed this film more than several movies. -
What are your favorite LEGO Star Wars sets from 2016?
PaulPrime replied to jdm44's topic in LEGO Star Wars
If i have to chose only one that would be the AT—ST walker. The Ghost microfighter including Hera was also extremely nice. -
Yes, you are. Thank you very much for sharing the files. I made some minor changes in the "toes" but credit is totally yours. By the way, with that last update from Forresto, is that still a modification or did you already trespassed the line to MOC area?
-
Oops, sorry, it is this one.
-
Sure, here you are. Everything is based on brackets. There is a 4L bar inside the "claw" construction holding it together. Now let's see your design. And no, mods will never end. You can always improve a little bit more.
-
I assume you are asking me. The cable is this and it's 21L, but I cut a piece to fit as stated before. The steering wheel is a handlebar. The slopes in the cockpit are regular 2x1 curved slopes on top of a 1x1 brick with stud in one side. Nice job on the ankles, Richpepperel! I am also experimenting with balljoints but on top of the feet. The feet and ankles were not designed by me, but I don't remember who was the nice guy who shared the LFX. .
-
Thank you for your kind words and for starting this thread. Take into account that if you are going to order this for the top rail it is too long and you will have to cut a bit. I used the remaining bit to add some detail at the back of the neck. Thank you. I tried the reversed 1x2 modified plate with a clip and a cheese wedge, but after looking for some reference pictures they were not so accurate, There are two "toes" per foot so although the shape is not correct (they should be little triangules) at least the number is. Richpepperell solution for the feet is much more accurate but implies more pieces/work.
-
Finally the pieces arrived, so I completed my version of the AT-ST. Some quick pictures to show the modifications. Nothing too complicated but if you want to see more detailed pictures just let me know. I am happy with the interior and improved control panel. I borrowed ideas from everybody in this and other threads, so credit to all of those fantastic modders and moccers who provide inspiration to us. Thank you, you rule.

I had to try and I can say the ratches and everything else hold the weight perfectly. It is not as stable as with the two ratchets per joint, if you push it by one side it wobbles a bit. But that is even more accurate as the poor thing stumbles and fall very easily in the movies. Some quick and dirty pictures to illustrate this last mod. Many thanks to anothergol for the indication.
-
Of course they should be much thinner to be accurate. I think it will require a complete rebuild of the legs due the way the two ratcheted joints are implemented, much like the MOCs from anothergol and LiLmeFromDaFuture. At least they don't look bad when seen from the sides.

I love the rounded feet! I have to do that mod on mine.
-
What a breathtaking display! I will pay to see this amazing fleet in person.
-
Yes, it's about time to do something with the lower half of the chicken. I have moved the foot one stud back, and shortened the legs two studs. Some other aesthetic changes were made on the ankles and other parts. Still waiting for my BL orders to arrive to make more updates.

She's a true CFOL (Cat Fan Of Lego). Her favorite pieces are the rubber wheels. She loves to get a wheel from the compartiment in my box and take it to play through the corridor. Last time she came back after playing with the wheel in the mouth, climbed to the top of the table and drop the wheel in its correct compartiment (my box has 12 different compartiments). It's good to share this hobby but it's bad to find cat hairs all over my buildings.

The hinge is not moved, it is still at the back of the head. We only moved back the support to hold the side plates up. The gap is esentially the same, unless you place two 2x1 tiles and place the wedge plates one stud lower in the face, which reduces the original gap to almost nothing. I have worked a bit on the top plate while I wait some orders to arrive. Better gap filling and some detailing aded. We have a special guest in the pictures today as she just decided not to move and pose along with the AT-ST. Look down you two! The 2x1 tile between the eyes will be substituted by an ingot as soon as I receive it.
-
And this is the reason why the 2x2 flags as eyelids seem to be oversized in my chicken but look great on yours. Thanks for the explanation.

Glad to help! Whoa, a compliment from one of the best builders around. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it.
