Maedhros I like the way this ship looks. It has a good looking ram and sails. I think if you were to add tumblehome to it, it may look awkward as the sides aren
  3. Admiral Wig, Here is the ship your brig sloop will be escorting. Thank you for sharing. She has quite the treasure, and seems to be well armed and able to fend for herself if needed. I like the gun spacing in this ship, as I prefer at least 4 studs between port holes for nonMOC cannons. You have a nice tumblehome affect too. Are you presenting this to us as it will be made, or are you looking for constructive assistance from fellow MOCers? Do you have plans to have this ship in the same pre-steam-engine era as most of us, or is this going to be a mix of what resources you have? Do you have some overall pictures of the entire ship from different views? Duke
  4. This is a picture of a model of the HMS Victory which also has copper below the waterline. I think a tan would closely represent the copper in this picture. Here is a picture of another model of the HMS Victory and in this one it appears to be much more red. I think either a red or rown would come closer to this picture. I like the look of the tan better for displaying the copper and it's probably what I would use. Duke
  5. Phred, If you are mimicking the HMS Surprise for mast to ship dimensions, this ship will be very fast. According to my book The World of Jack Aubrey, The HMS Surprise was considered to be about the size of a 6th rate 28 gun ship and was outfitted with the mainmast and associated rigging off of a British 36 gun frigate 8-o . The purpose of this was because the HMS Surprise was armed with 32 carronades (short light, large caliber guns) along with 4 long guns and they wanted to rapidly close the gap on other ships to unleash devastating punishment. :-D Duke
  6. Phred After you came over and showed me what you meant, I think I will have the 7 windows in the back as you suggested. There will now be very close to the one stud gap you were talking about. I think it will be very difficult to lower the windows, but I will be able to lower the floor in the captain
  7. ZCerberus The fort I have isn't really that impressive looking. It is basically just a rectangle fort with 25 cannons lining the top of the walls. Although it is very well armed and will be a good safe haven while wargaming, I dont really think it is good enough to post here. Would it be possible to just move the fortress you are replacing over to the other side? Duke
  8. ZCerberus I really like the way you mimicked the larger fort with the armory. It looks very good. I especially like that you made it a bell tower. *y* *y* I look forward to seeing your massive fort reunited with the rest of the port. *sweet* Duke
  9. Bonapate This is an excellent idea. I may one day build a governor's house, but all my workers are to buisy building a fleet to combat the Dame du Loup. I look forward to seeing your progress. Duke
  10. If you go to this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sloop-of-war you will see that your ship is a brig sloop of war. If you look closely at the top ZCerberus uses an ingenious way to raise the top of his mast. I have used it on my own sloop of war the HMS Expedition I have a progress thread for here at EB. If you have a work in progress, I among others, would like to see it. If you
  11. There seems to always be some controversy on what a ship is classified as. The same may have been true with this very frigate. Some people may think this should be a ship of the line. I did a little research and found this website http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frigate. It has a description on most every type of ship out there in case anyone gets confused. I also copied and pasted a paragraph that pertains to me bros ship. I think you could classify his mighty ship as a
  12. Mister Phez Yeah, I am pretty much going away from my original plans of a modified BSB, but I still give credit to Bonaparte
  13. I thought about it for a while and decided to totally remake the HMS Expedition. I have been experimenting with some ideas and will use them on the ship. I took off the rear BSB section and am creating my own. It will have 6 windows in the rear and a bowed curve to it (10 windows total). Obviously the green windows will be replaced with yellow and white ones. I am going to basically use the same black and yellow color shceme as the BSB. I am also going to take all the sides off to finish the tumblehome effect I started. I saw something like this on Bonaparte
  14. Mr. Tiber Thanks for the compliments. As for your crew inquiry, I may have as many as 42 men manning the cannons and carronades. I have some space between the 14 cannons below deck. I am hoping to man each of those with two men to make her rate of fire more rapid should I have it in a war-game. Also I may have up to 12 carronades and two small MOC cannons on the above deck requiring 14 more men. Plus I
  15. Right you are Phred. In fact that is your piece I used to use ZCerberus's method. I was wondering if anyone was going to say something along those lines. Mister Phes, There are two reasons I am keeping the BSB basic design. One reason is because I really like the BSB
  16. Captain Attack, Your progress is coming along nicely and your ship is becoming even more powerful. Good work so far. *y* With the addition of 8 cannons do you have plans to increase your crew? About what years does Captain Attack roam the seven seas? Duke
  17. Mister Phes The reason I am calling it a sloop is because in my book The World of Jack Aubrey, a 16 gun ship is considered a sloop. There are sloops larger and smaller than this one. Duke
  18. The HMS Expedition will be my first WIP thread of mine using my own Legos. I was inspired to build this ship when I saw Bonaparte
  19. ZCerberus Wow!!! *y* *y* This is really looking awesome. My jaw nearly hit the floor when I opened your forum and saw the updated fortress. I think this fort would do its job in battle and maybe even avoid some battles by scaring off would be attackers. *sweet* Duke
  20. Tordenskjold This is a great idea you have here. *y* *y* I hope you build the real thing. I haven
  21. I voted I love them! I like how they diversify the pirates theme. They were one of those groups that people venturing off into the sea would run into. They may not be a super power by any means, but they are indeed very neat. I would like to see some creative MOCs incorporating the islanders. I plan to get an enchanted island in the next few months. Duke

  23. 5/5 This is a great set. It has a nice assortment of minifigs and additional islander folk. Everytime I try to buy it on eBay it goes for too much. Kind of a dumpy raft, but who cares this set has quite a bit of useful minifig pieces and a cannon. Duke
  24. 4/5 This is a decent set. I couldn't see being on that small of an island for any length of time, but the baseplate could be useful for making part of a larger fort. It does come with some useful pieces such as the cannon. Duke
  25. 4/5 This set is a very good base to building a wonderful looking ship. It is very elegant looking. It needs more crew at least another cannon and the coloring needs to be changed a bit. Maybe use primarily white and blue in its contruction. As for the falling mast, thats rediculous. Duke
