Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Scarilian replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
True, something like this seems likely. I was remarking mostly in regards to cancellations, I cannot see Lego straight-up cancelling D2C's for 2023, but I could see a reduction either via spacing them via delaying many of them. Honestly, I think the main problem is that they have lost a sense of the target market and over-estimated the interest in certain aspects and tried to appeal to markets that were not there. A market exists for a Black Panther Bust, but at that scale you isolate it to those who are fanatical about the character. A market exists for the Hulkbuster, but at that scale you need to focus on accuracy and display as opposed to adding a play feature to store another set. Marvel, to be fair, is normally one of the last to leak. It is still possible we don't see anything this week, this week just seems likely given the reveal/leak of the mech sets last year was 15th November, at just under 3 hours from now. I would'nt suggest hyping yourself up over specific days/times though, but more a general sense of 'it should be revealed/leaked this week or next week' given they normally put most of the January sets on Lego Shop@Home on December 1st so people can get enticed into the sets when thinking of what to get around/after Christmas. -

The Ninjago sets have leaked, other leaks probably won't be too far behind hopefully so fingers crossed we see the mechs and potentially the Morbius set soon. Even if Lego are reactionary, which they have sometimes proven themselves to be, they'd need to presumably wait for sales figures on these recent D2C's to come through. Most D2C's probably take around 2-3 years of development so if any others are in the process intended for a 2023/2024 release these should probably still happen. 2025 would be the most likely time period when it would be impacted as any that were just starting or about to be approved around now could be pushed back or cancelled as an initial reaction to sales. -

They refer to quarters of the year: Q1: January 1 – March 31. Q2: April 1 – June 3. Q3: July 1 – September 30. Q4: October 1 – December 31. Similar 1HY is 1st Half of Year and 2HY is 2nd Half of Year The Infinity Saga wave of sets was primarily focused on Endgame. This was a problem as it meant the only way that was going to occur again would be in a special occasion such as an anniversary or future Avengers movie. We've had one or two legacy sets since then but the focus seemed to be shifting away from them this year and the explanation many had hoped for is that we were going to get an anniversary legacy set wave in Q3/Q4 2022. Sadly this has not happened and it appears we only have two potential legacy sets for 1HY 2023 so far - being the Quinjet and the IW Hulkbuster Wakanda battle set. In general those wanting a larger focus on legacy stuff wanted an anniversary wave, that was the main desire. You did have some wanting gold figures and things, Iron Man eventually does need a golden figure to represent the 'Midas' suit, however the main appeal was getting legacy sets from a variety of past movies. Depending on pricing the golden figures normally acted as a bonus for people interested in the sets rather than just being viewed as an additional cost. -
40580 Buildable Tahu: Bionicle returns in 2023!
Scarilian replied to Mandalorianknight's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Most likely it's a result of the popularity of the theme in the 90th anniversary poll, probably going into production around that time or slightly after. That way they have something else for the 90th celebrating Bionicle. It could also test the waters for a return of the theme eventually, combined with how the community responded to the Mini-Tahu in the 90th anniversary box set. If the GWP gains a lot of interest also, then hopefully they would give the theme a go, probably around the time of Bionicle's 25th anniversary in 2025 (25th anniversary of G1, 10th anniversary of G2) -

Alright, seems we are entering 'leak week'. This time last year we had the 2022 Marvel mechs revealed, so we may see some 2023 January sets revealed this week for Marvel. Hopefully something good to distract from recent poor business decisions of Lego. I agree with CM4Sci, remark on Brickset, on this one. Mark Stafford seems to repeatedly be using Covid and the lockdowns as an excuse for every poor decision made by Lego recently to shift the blame away. Similar remarks were made regarding the Black Panther Bust. It's getting tiresome and seems unlikely to be honest. You don't just forget about the 10th anniversary while designing and working with several others designing one of the biggest and most expensives sets to be released in recent years. The answer is also a cop-out, Batman and Spider-man were seperate themes, not released under the Superhero theme which started in 2012. Even if you wanted to use them as an excuse, it does not work as an excuse for Marvel because the Spider-man sets came out in 2002 so we should be celebrating the 20th anniversary. Avengers came out 10 years ago and was the same time the Marvel Superhero theme started and we had nothing for the dual 10th anniversary of those. Honestly, it further aggravates the scenario because he's claiming to directly acknowledge the Spider-man 2002 sets meaning it would flash in his mind that this was the 20th anniversary of that theme, 10th anniversary of Avengers, 10th anniversary of the Marvel Superhero Theme, etc... -

Official reveal was on the 15th November, I'd perhaps expect us to see the January 2023 mechs around the same time this year, perhaps the other non-movie associated sets also. -

Other than 76222 and 76224, which might not happen at all, that's it for 2022 Lego Marvel as far as we are aware. @Captain Nemo 2023 thread when? On the bright side, Instagram is slowly fixing itself to be something other than a completely broken mess and is finally showing the additional hashtags, so maybe we'll be able to actually use instagram to find images... A revolutionary concept to be sure. @Ransom Fern is apparently planning to do something with his version of 76210 Hulkbuster, potentially modifying it. So keep an eye out for when that happens. Perhaps they can salvage the set. Chances are we'll see the 2023 sets in around a week or two, or at least the mechs, so fingers crossed they have fixed the issues from the 2022 sets. A new mixel joint piece for the connection to the legs would be really useful so hopefully we get that. I really hope the Rocket Mech is actually a mech version of Groot, would be neat. Best set of 2023, Miles Morales Vs Morbius, is scheduled for January so we have something good to look forward to in the new year. Updated List: You think its selling? I was probably the most attached to it and even for me its a pass, unless it drops severely and even then it'd require a lot of changes to the design so it'd be more akin to a parts pack Best case scenario? A mixture of delays resulted in the 10th anniversary wave getting pushed into Spring/Summer 2023 - such as Quinjet, Hulkbuster and the missing 76222 and 76224. Though that is best case scenario and not as realistic as them just revisiting specific sets under the legacy theme. We won't know for sure until we see both of these sets, but hopefully we'll see them before the end of the month. Though a golden Thor hammer shared by someone who is into prototypes, miscolorations, etc... is not enough basis to remark on golden anniversary figures. -

Avatar Whale is what we should have gotten for the Black Panther 2 wave showing a level of creativity and would have provided Atlanteans with more allies to balance out the numbers, perhaps they did not bother doing a whale for the Black Panther WF wave due to overlap. Whale & Mech are probably the only sets from Avatar I may end up getting and both have concepts for sets we should really have seen replicated or used in the Marvel theme. Only a few days now till the VIP release of 76210 Hulkbuster, then that's it for the year seemingly - then probably around two weeks after we'll wind up seeing January set images around the 15th-20th November most likely. -

Its difficult to describe, I think it'd be neat if you could fold all the hinged pieces to flex out to form a line. I think you'd probably just need to change the front of the boat and any areas where the sides connect to the main middle section. This'd expose the entire interior which would effectively be a box with the engines attached and give you a long wall made from the ships exterior panels that you could use for depicting a battle scene or just an exterior defensive wall for Wakanda. -

If Lego is doing NWH sets it's more likely they would play it safe with a wave of perhaps three or four sets rather than a big D2C. The most obvious being a bridge battle set that just features Ock, Iron Spider and a car. -

We have an unknown polybag in February, perhaps the polybag contains Kang to encourages spending more. Set itself could then contain Ant-Man, Wasp, Cassie/Stature and a brick-built Modok. -

Hot Toys has scheduled for release figures based on villains from the NWH final battle, Green Goblin, Electro, Doc Ock, Lizard and Sandman. All of these are in Q3-Q4 2023. If Lego is making NWH sets, we'd probably be looking at July - December 2023 at the earliest. -

We already have names and pricing for most the wave, you can view it in the updated list at the bottom. Last year we had images of the January sets mid november, so we'll probably see that occur for the Thanos, Hulk and Rocket mech. Piece counts should be revealed for those sets along with potential descriptions of other January sets and what to expect around that time: Names and pricing in October Set piece counts and images around 15th November Lego updates website to add January sets around December 7th D2C info was revealed in late November/December, but that may have been an anomaly so would not necessarily say to expect that. TLDR - expect us to see the images of at least the mechs by around the 20th November. Updated List: -

I'd play it safe honestly with my expectations: Remake of Hulk's Helicarrier Breakout, $79.99, featuring four figures (One big fig): Loki, Hulk, Hawkeye, Captain America Remake of Quinjet Aerial Battle, $99.99, featuring five figures: Loki, Thor, Black Widow, Iron Man MK7, Chitauri (Repeat) Polybag release in Febuary featuring the Iron Man MK6 Total new figures: 8 Total price for wave: $180 That would then be every character who had a figure in the original wave, replicated here in two sets and a polybag. Lego could top the wave/anniversary off with a D2C remake of the Helicarrier to give us Nick Fury, Agent Coulson and Maria Hill. Granted a lot of us would prefer Stark/Avengers Tower, but I don't think we'd get that in 2023. -

I'm still holding hope that the Quinjet in January is part of a delayed 10th anniversary wave and is a re-do of the original Avengers Quinjet. I'm starting to lose interest in the newer MCU stuff so I'd be more interested in legacy sets and remakes. -

I feel like its a combination, here is generally how I see it: Dome Head: Lego, ensuring that the buildable Iron Man figure can be accessed easily Stretched Torso: Lego, requiring it to fit the buildable Iron Man Figure Flat Back/Cockpit piece: Lego, easy access to the figure if it's stuck or jammed in order to take it out if you could'nt get it from the top/front Pricing: Lego, they originally aimed for $500 and we know it was increased by them directly to $550 Piece count: Lego, we know Lego decides upon piece counts so 4000 was probably the stated goal Stickers: Lego, they tend to default to stickers now rather than prints Detailing on Torso: Designer, all the elements are included but the spacing is wrong due to the stretching Thinner legs at the joint: Designer, probably a stylistic choice but this is also present in his previous D2C Hulkbuster Shoulder pads: Designer, a lot of the aspects are there but it has similar problems to the previous Hulkbuster in that it does not cover the joint enough (The shoulders can bend, just nobody seems to display them bent in official photos) I'm sure the designer will eventually do a Q&A about all this, but in general I would attribute most the problems to the requirement to fit the buildable Iron Man figure which is almost certainly entirely on Lego. Similarly the pricing as mentioned is on Lego. It's why as i mentioned before, I'd have liked to see what this would have looked like if the buildable figure concept was not a focus and I would not be too surprised if it looked like the right image. Image made by hachiroku I have more to say, but this is almost certainly entirely on Lego. I feel there would be much more backlash if this was a fully unique Iron Man figure or if this figure was more desirable because then people would be angry its locked behind a $550 Hulkbuster that they may already have critiques of due to the design. Having it be a variant of the one included in the smaller Avengers Tower Promo set (40334) while also having it be based on a specific moment that was on-screen for perhaps less than 5 seconds are elements done to prevent people being angry about an exclusive figure while still providing an exclusive figure. I know the designer has disclosed interest in this figure and why it was selected, I feel they were advised to pick something unique yet not something fans massively desired as the focal point of this set is the Hulkbuster and the Buildable Iron Man feature, honestly it could have wound up being a re-release of the 40334 version if they wanted. -
Marvel Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
Scarilian replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I've seen a few people claiming this Hulkbuster 'does not need to exist' and 'who asked for this' well, honestly, neither of those statement really work and seem a bit petty. A market exists for Hulkbusters that has been proven as people keep financially supporting the Hulkbuster sets when they are made/released, a market exists for UCS adult focused Marvel sets this has been proven by prior UCS Marvel sets, a market exists for Iron Man associated aspects. People were asking for a better version after the 2015 version and I've seen several people offer the counter arguement that they wanted a Hulkbuster MKII and that would have made them more likely to buy at this price. The demand was there, people were asking for it and in terms of 'does not need to exist' that could be said more so for sets like 'Attack On New Asgard' compared to a fairly unique, largest mech set Lego has ever produced. Put bluntly, it's not the concept of an attempt at a 1/16th scale Hulkbuster display model that can fit an Iron Man figure but instead the design and pricing that angers people and a lot of people are'nt thinking realistically when it comes to Lego pricing suggesting it should have retailed for the same price as the 2015 set which was $120 ($0.03PPP) or around $300 ($0.74PPP), it may hit the later of those on end of life sales but it should not be an option for release. The average in current year is $0.11PPP so the average price which it should have aimed for was $450 ($0.111PPP) and its original price being $500 ($0.123PPP) is only slightly higher than current year averages. Spoiler tagged some of the below for space :P -

Did not even need to be a full figure, some of the toy versions included the upper chest and head of an Iron Man figure as opposed to the full version. I also find it odd how Lego did not account for the Iron Man figure already having its own lightbrick, you already included that aspect and elongated the Iron Man figure to include it. It'd have made more sense that the chest of the Hulkbuster can only light up with an Iron Man figure inserted, using the lightbrick that's in the buildable figure. Otherwise the inclusion of the function is pointless because once you shove an Iron Man figure inside it's utterly irrelevant and unnoticable and changes no aspect of the display unless you have the helmet up, so his body/arms/legs are useless with only his head being visible. It's also unlikely that including him will fill the gaps in the torso, though not seen it displayed with the Iron Man figure in it yet. You could have scrapped the other lightbrick and also the feature to 'push the front to activate' because now the activation method would be from the back justifying the cockpit piece being used to access the figures button and to remove the figure. Either that or perhaps allocated some budget to have lightbricks added to the stationary knees, which would help further justify why they can't bend. These are all aspects I'll be looking into doing if I wind up getting the set for a reduced price and with a promotional aspect to help offset the cost. Along with bulking the knees, fixing the torso length, altering the shoulder pads and fixing some layout issues on the arms. -

Scarilian replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think the theory is likely, but these are all going to underperform for varying reasons and this was all done idiotically during a global financial crisis that should have been evident was going to occur. The issues with the Hulkbuster mostly come from proportional aspects with the torso and the stupid decision to try and integrate a seperate full buildable Iron Man figure into it, sacrificing accuracy for said feature. The issue with the Black Panther bust mostly come from them picking a less popular character that is primarily black and without much detailing, the best starting choice would have been Spider-man because the amount of detail his mask offers to vary it. The issue with the Sanctum is that it's incomplete and the minifigure selection is fairly underwhelming in terms of detailing. The issue with the Thor's Hammer is a lack of detailing on the Hammer because they wanted to include a display base. Conceptually Lego does have an audience for big mech sets, large scale busts, building focused accurate builds and tools/weapons of the characters. The trouble is they messed up the execution of every single one of these. Lego are self-sabotaging this method of judging new markets via the incompetency on display, primarily from misjudging the appeal of big sets and what it takes for a customer to purchase them. -

£475 for 4049 pieces, which includes three light-up bricks. It's still extreme but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Dropping around £50 off via Lego VIP points I've stored up and this would be £425 which I think would make it somewhat reasonable if timed with some good promotions such as any in November/December, Bionicle promotion in January, Marvel polybag in February... It looks like the hips could be angled slightly to have the legs together or spread slightly but unclear. No knee joint is confirmed by one of the display videos. The feet seem to have some ability to rotate slightly to allow them to stay flat for the spread pose. Updated List: I think it'd have been more logical to have Iron Man capable of having his legs fold and compress, filling the gaps on either side of the Hulkbuster torso and also making him smaller enabling him to fit in the set. Best comparison I can give would be Soundwave: Buildable Hulk in Summer 2023 followed by a $800 Hulkbuster MK2 that's in-scale in late 2023 based on the concept art for Infinity War that showed the Hulk bursting out the middle :p -

I'd normally agree, but Promobricks lists the Captain Marvel 2 set as a January release and gives nothing for the Ant-Man 3 set. We'll have to see how the layout actually happens. I believe the Marvel CMF series was teased and then relayed by 'bohner_bricks' on Instagram around April 2021 before a confirmation around July 2021 and a release in October 2021. I would not be surprised if we see a similar layout of info if we ever get a second series of the Marvel CMF - so we'd probably hear about it in April-July 2023 if it's happening in October 2023 -

I hope Lego officially reveals the Hulkbuster this week. Perhaps seeing it displayed alongside other things along with confirmation on aspects such as articulation, even a turnaround to show it's back, would help. I'd also like to have a better understanding of how badly the currency issues will impact the set. Effectively the release schedule for the sets likely follows the very last of the delays, which involved Ant-Man 3 and Captain Marvel 2 switching places. Captain Marvel 2 was previously scheduled for February, which is why they had scheduled her set for January. This set could easily be pushed back given the new fillm release date is July. Ant-Man 3 was previously scheduled for July and then moved forward to February. We know it's getting a set, but any sets planned for it would probably reflect the July release date. It's unclear if Lego would push the Ant-Man 3 set forward as its easily to delay a set/sets than it is to move one forward. Updated List: -

Honestly... kinda want to see them re-do the D2C Hulkbuster once again, it was so close this time it just needed the torso to be refocused and potentially a new or brick-built head and some minor alterations to other aspects.
