I'm a tiny bit confused. The freight train is occupying the usual $150 bracket instead of the passenger train. Does that mean we're keeping the 60052, this is a "collector" train and we're getting a passenger train AND a $200 freight train, or are we getting a $200 passenger train this time? Whatever it is, it's nice to see a change in pace and variety.

I'm with ecmo47 on this one. There's now way that Lego would release a clone set like this. Everything they do is carefully calculated and discussed, and I doubt they would release two toyshops. Maybe it's just a red herring to throw us off the trail But come Christmas, we better have 2 shiny new trains going around the tree. Anyways, is there going to be a new high speed train next year?

New locomotive on LEGO Ideas + new Guinness World Record
Lego Dino 500 replied to Henrik Ludvigsen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I hope it comes with a few carriages. -
Given all these errors, I'm planning to stick to in Lego store and other sources online. No point in all this drama and stress when you can just get the discount in store. From now on, shop.lego.com is PaB only.

I'm beginning to hate the new PaM. It's taken up 30 bins from the 50-60 that my Lego store fills up, and there's nothing but 2x8 bricks, 4x4 plates, 1x1 plates, and 1x1 round studs. Luckily they don't mind if you take bricks from the PaM too much, but there's almost nothing on the wall. Why can't we have interesting stuff like 1x4 curved plates and hinges and clips and bars like the other stores?
-
Sweet. Can't wait til I hit the Lego store today, looks like there'll be plenty of hinges, plates, SNOT bricks, and curved plates in green to make some trains. Now if only I had some driver wheels and more cars.

I really hope that Lego decides to release some longer trains. These are all awesome and I'd love to see a official train with more than 3 cars.

Future Marvel Superheroes Rumors & Speculation
Lego Dino 500 replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm crossing my fingers that one of the new villains could be Kang The Conqueror. He'd make a perfect GotG 2 villain, even if it's only a cameo. -
This is really cool. If there was still Monorail sets being released, this is exactly how I'd imagine a Galaxy Squad Monorail set would look like.

The sad thing is, Lego's train stuff would do a lot better if they put more into marketing for it. It's a bit of a catch 22. There needs to be more TV advertisements, set distribution beyond the Lego store, put more models on display in the Lego stores, and maybe release a Lego classic train bucket, with the parts for several train bases and basic bricks to create various cars. And make sure to put it in more than just Lego stores too.
-
Pretty much. And trains will only be viable as long as they're cheaper than airplanes, which currently isn't the case with CSX and Amtrak.
-
I wouldn't mind the lack of train parts if they made the pieces more accessible. I would love to have a train car pack with all the pieces for a train base, or a locomotive pack with the motor, battery pack, receiver, and remote. The problem is that trains aren't as popular as they used to be. With major advancements like Japan's Maglev, California's planned high speed rail, and GE's new Tier 4 compliant GP40s, it should hopefully gain back up, but that'd only realistically happen if there was a MAJOR revival in the commuter rail industry.

Ehh, it seems okay. With some better matched shell colors to the mask, it would look pretty good. My only gripe is that it's a shell-swapped version of Gen2 Lewa's body.

It seems like there's been a pretty strong up trend for Lego trains lately. The HE has sold out several times up until it's discontinuation, there's been a lot of sales for the 60052 and 60051, from what I could tell, we can only speculate at this point. Crossing my fingers they release a Creator train and a Christmas train, or they go balls out and make a huge Pullman consist with a 4-6-2 or 4-8-2 steam engine. I'd be happy with either one, but I just want to have a Lego train with a locomotive, several passenger cars, and a brake van. The Lego My Own Train large locomotive with Tender, 5-6 passenger cars, a open freight car, and a brake van would be my perfect consist.

CSX GE EMD AC4400CW 7 wide, now in dark blue! WIP
Lego Dino 500 replied to legoman666's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That's a really good design. I'll have to try that out, maybe try to build it legal with some hinges and SNOT plates. The funny thing is, I just saw a BNSF consist of 4 EMD AC4400CW and about 100 TTX Intermodal cars a few days ago. Can't wait to try this. -
That is pretty true. Maybe we could have some sort of friction based mechanism, using tired wheels on a smooth track? You could also use 1/2x3 stud pulley wheels with tires on the side of a single rail. There are plenty of other possible solutions.

Anyone else curious about our next City passenger train? I imagine they could possibly do a NYC or AZ style Lightrail/Subway? Those already run in 3 car consists minimum, and it's the only untouched modern Lego train genre right now, unless I can think of something else. Ideally, my type of Lego passenger train would be a Flying Zephyr/Santa Fe/El Capitan based train, but none of those are too likely.

Jurassic Park and Jurassic World Set Ideas Thread
Lego Dino 500 replied to Tom Jurassic's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think a really cool Jurassic World set would be the Shamou-ish display with the Mosasaurus and the curved stadium seating on the arches. A much less likely possibility could be a "Mosasaurus Light Rail Attack!" set with the high speed train that crosses the arena, and some elevated track. -
This is really good. I never thought that HO wheel sets and 4x8 lego plates matched so well.

What Is The Best Method For Building A Lego Model Railway
Lego Dino 500 replied to jamesed_1971's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Personally, I just play around with what features I want. For example, I know I'll want the layout to have a pair of grand curves, and a small shunting yard. I'll then make the larger components, like the curves and loops on either end, then I'll play around with the excess to form the secondary features, like a cargo dock, a passenger station, and other such structures. Then I'll situate them on the outside of the main features, like the grand curves and the shunting yards, replacing sections of straight track with switches to create these areas. So far its worked out good for my temporary carpet layouts, and it's a lot more lively than a typical rectangle. You can apply this same thought train to building a semi-permanent layout.- 16 replies

They used to sell something similar. It was a supplemental set that came with a 6x28 train car baseplate, 4 train wheel sets, two 2x6 plates, 2 2x4 plates, two train bogey plates, and two buffers with magnets. Too bad it likely won't happen soon.

This is really interesting. I'm really curious as to how applicable all this is to N scale and regular Lego train geometries.

Whatever it may be, I hope we break the "single engine with one car forcing us to BL more cars for extorted prices" mold. Hopefully Lego realizes the downsides of this, and lets us buy engines and cars separately, like the Santa Fe and El Capitan cars or the Burlington Northern and the Intermodal cars. Those two releases were very near Legos all time low in marketing and sales, and hopefully they've decided by now with the demand for extra cars, that they'll finally stop being gun shy about selling extra cars. All I've wanted is to have a complete set of Santa Fe cars and a locomotive, but the prices are ridiculous. They either need to start doing this again, or at least have the courtesy to pack more than one car with the locomotive. The Maersk and Horizon Express were better with this than the Emerald Night, but they need to put more. I would gladly pay $200 or $250 for a Creator Expert train with 5 or 6 cars, and I'm hoping they realize that that's what most of us want. On another note, I'd love if they released longer train baseplates, maybe a 38 or a 44 length one.

What other pirate movie franchise could Pirate sets be based on?
Lego Dino 500 replied to Mazin's topic in LEGO Pirates
I know it's not really tradition pirates and is steampunk/scifi/pirates, but I would love ships based off of Treasure Planet. It's vastly underrated as a movie, and it'd be interesting to see Pirates from a different point of view. It's one of my favorite adaptations of Treasure Island, and has lots of similar themes. I'd love to see big, graceful research vessels like the RLS Legacy built in Lego. Just imagine Imperial Flagship, but in space and with a proper cabin and crew quarters. -
This is awesome. I love the shaping, the details, everything about it. The only thing that could be improved would be if you replaced the black teeth pieces with some 1x2 SNOT plates, and put some orange and white translucent lights with some grill pieces across it. Other than that, this MOC is perfect.
