For the record, exclusives (modulars, etc) are hard to find here too. The only physical TRU that carries them as far as I know is the Times Square NYC location. None of the ones by me have them. And TRU carries them online, but they're (now) excluded from promos and sales. Yes, a year or more ago you could sometimes get modulars from TRU on sale, but I haven't seen that in a long time.

So sad... no more Big Apple set

Thanks CopMike, saved me a couple minutes of googling :) We'll definitely be building our own. Just easier if they'd been available... -
Help With Selling A Collection?
mostlytechnic replied to cambookpro's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
If you've got old sets, you'd get more $$$ selling as complete sets than as bags of random pieces. More work, but usually worth it if you think you've got full sets (big sets especially). -
It's only on the wiiu version - at least by me, the fig is attached to the preorder card. Although I haven't looked for the 3ds version, I didn't see any figs in that area, so I don't think it's on those. I can't swear though that there even are preorder cards for the 3ds version yet. And yes, I'm sure the ebay price will plummet as more of these are available. It's already falling from the $30 level and looks more like they're going for around 15.

Found these figs at Target today. Preorder the game and get one. The package shows his hair as normal reddish-brown (it looks closer to that than any dark orange mentioned above) but the hair in the package is dark tan. My question - why is this fig so hot? Do a completed auction search on ebay and there have been a bunch sell for $15-30. That's insane! It's not like it's a character from superheroes or LotR that's only available preorder. It's just another cop fig, in my opinion.

Yep, holiday box starts Nov 1. And whether you can get multiple depends on your store, so might wanna ask before buying a ton of stuff. My store only gives 1 per purchase, so I just stop in multiple times :)

Can't WAIT for the holiday box promo to start later this week. Have hundreds of $$$ I'm planning to spend, which means lots of free boxes. Just have to do it in many visits (limit 1 free box per visit) but that's ok since I have a lego store in town. I think last year I ended up with 6 or so free boxes.

sorry, I'm buying them all. Meant to post a "ygpm" when I sent andy a message earlier this morning.

Last year we got a handful of the Big Apple bagged set and my kids gave them (built) as teacher gifts at the end of the year. I'd heard that you could still buy the bag in the NYC lego store. So this past weekend, my wife and I were in NYC so we hiked over to the store, planning to stockpile as many as they'd let us buy (got 3 kids, youngest not even in school yet). Sadly, no more apples :( Now there's a Statue of Liberty bag in its place, but it's pretty lame IMHO. So now I'll probably just bricklink all the pieces and we can still build them, just not as easily.

The Android Life of George app just got an update, and now it works on my Galaxy Nexus. So time to go buy the set again I guess :)

Review: 10228 Haunted House
mostlytechnic replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Right, the haunted house is lego stores only. I doubt there will be any sale on it (unless perhaps a discount on Black Friday), so right now w/ double VIP and FS is about as good as you'll get. -

Great furniture, and that lighting effect image is superb!

Discontinuation of “Grab Bags” in LEGO Brand Retail
mostlytechnic replied to Bricksan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The last couple bags I got were fantastic - had lots of the dark orange from the town hall PLUS a bunch of Super Heroes figs :) The figs alone were worth several times what I paid for the bags. Heck, even the store manager told me I was getting a great deal when he saw me buying them (I'm in the store enough that he recognizes me, and I got lucky and was there about 30 minutes after they put the bags out, so I got them) -
Ok, why did they use wheels w/ rubber bands on the front bogey of the engine? I can't see it on the box image, but the later batch of images w/ the closeups of the cars, you can see rubber bands on the front bogey but not any of the others. At first I thought maybe they were going to power it with a PF motor inside (similar to EN) rather than the train motor, but the description from Lego does specifically say to add the train motor. So I dunno...

Looks great - the textures and color scheme of the front is fantastic. Especially loving the blue/tan/dark tan combo on the outside buildings since it's unusual but really works.

Review: 10228 Haunted House

For those asking about how it looks with modulars: As you can see, it can't fit flush with them. The right side has the side door. The left side has the hinge bricks in the chimney - if you removed those it'd fit side by side. Also, I think it feels a little too big for the others. Sure, the floors are the same size, but it's a single house as big as a fire station. Just doesn't feel right. I think it'd work better in a large layout to have it close and the other modulars farther away to give some perspective. -

I think it's because it's the only set at the size, complexity, and detail level of the modulars. So no, it's technically not a modular, but it looks like one. -

I do have several modulars, so I'll get a comparison pic added soon... Sorry, don't have the town hall. Want it though :)
