  1. Just saw this popping up in the NZ Lego website, so it must be coming slowly After some frustrating back and forth with Lego customer service, they finally agreed to send me the free set with my purchases from the 1st of October. For some reason none of them could give definite answers that the promotion would be available starting from the 15th of October, even though I've been asking them since last month, and half the people I asked said I would get the free set, and the other half said I wouldn't. Glad it's solved now, because I've got everything I ordered. Just need to wait for the free set to come separately.
  2. I have 1 each of the Town Hall and the Haunted House, but I haven't gotten around to building them yet, so it's hard to tell. The Haunted House looks much more stunning than the Town Hall in my opinion, and sand green seems like a reasonably rare colour at the moment, what with the rush for blue grocers. Maybe you could build an orange grocer from the Town Hall?
  3. They said they'd send me a new black briefcase, but they can't replace the witch. Oh well, good enough.
  4. Oh wow I bought the exact same things, and was in the exact same situation! Both have shipped now, so I'm just sitting here rubbing my hands together in excitement...
  5. I open the necessary bags, pour the contents of each into a separate pile (even the smaller bags within the bigger bags) and then I start building. Can't be bothered sorting because that'll take me forever for larger sets, but I do spend some time looking for tiny pieces while building that sometimes probably took longer than necessary. But the benefit of separating each bag is that the pieces become sorted in a way, so pieces are easier to find. It's why I always need a massive table for building.
  6. Thanks for the links! I have to admit that the riding camp and Olivia's house caught my eye immediately. I want buildings that could be part of a town layout without looking incredibly out of place, like say, a space station, so these are good. Mostly, I'm looking for houses, or shops, or even municipal buildings that could be placed along with modulars in a city (but probably not side by side, or the difference in size would look odd.
  7. I have to admit that I did exactly that. Never quite liked the Town Hall due to it's rather boxy nature and hefty price tag, but I've always wanted a place to marry my minifigs officially. Then I saw one new on sale here in NZ for roughly USD200, so I grabbed it. Glad I waited though, because I saved a hell of a lot. But the problem with waiting was that sometimes I end up paying higher prices. I was hoping the Grand Emporium would come on sale, but when it did, resellers grabbed them before I could and I ended up having to fork out USD235 to get it from the Lego online store, when I could've gotten it for much less earlier. So I actually paid more for my GE than TH, and the savings from TH probably balanced out the costs from the GE in the end. :-P It's a gamble, really, but sometimes, when you have to save up for a while to even be able to afford a single modular, it's just what you have to do.
  8. But does it have the 1 x x tiles with studs on end that typically make up the top of each storey in modular buildings? Just wondering, because I've never bought that set before. I don't mind hinges, because in a sense they can be shut to create a building with a back, like the Haunted House. My childhood had a couple of open-backed sets too, but even as a kid I didn't like them and modded them into buildings with proper backs. maybe I'm just slightly OCD that way... Oh, I was never quite sure about them, because the boxes don't show backs. But that's great, I can get them for a suburb in my city :D Oh yes, it does look like it could. I'll need more bricks to make up the walls, and a staircase, but shouldn't be too hard to find.
  9. So I've always liked Lego, but never quite liked the open-backed designs of most of the sets. I absolutely love the modular buildings for this reason, as well as things like the Haunted House and the Simpsons House. But just wondering, what other sets out there have proper backs? I'm slowly building a city, and I'd much rather get complete buildings from LEGO rather than MOC-ing them because being in NZ, there are no pick-a-brick stores around, which makes the costs of loose bricks relatively higher. Or are there buildings that could easily be made whole with 2 copies of the same set put together?
  10. Most of us overseas peeps can probably just stroll into a toy store to get one for a trade, but I think we're a bit too far away and shipping would be horribly expensive. Wouldn't mind trading for the Tower Bridge if only I didn't have to pay so much for shipping. The GE was sold out for a while in NZ, but then it came back in stock and doesn't seem to be going away anymore. Maybe just a trick to get people buying it. I sure fell for it lol
  11. The Town Hall is still available in the Lego website of other countries though. I'm in NZ and it's been listed as available every time I check the website. I thought they all shipped from the US? Or do they have specific stock meant for specific countries?
  12. My Haunted House shipped today. Can't wait!
  13. I got back into Lego after buying the Parisian Restaurant in May this year, and then the craze got to me and I started buying up every single modular available in a slightly OCD-manner. To date, I have the Fire Brigade, the Pet Shop, the Town Hall and the Parisian Restaurant all at heavily discounted prices from retail (25% to 31%), and the Grand Emporium and Haunted House at full retail price but with double VIP points from the LEGO store. Next up is the Palace Cinema, which I don't particularly like due to its size, but the unreasonable collector in me wants to get it anyway. My favorite by far is still the Parisian Restaurant, due to the detailed interior and exterior. Here's to hoping the Detective Agency will be in the same league.
  14. Is there a point in complaining to Lego? Figured I'd ask first before I try. Hard to make the witch fly around on the broomstick if her bottom's going to fall off every single time
  15. I got this off a reseller today to complement my Haunted House. Built it pretty quickly but I discovered a couple of problems: 1) the briefcase handle is too small for Lego hands, so they don't stay in the zombie's grip 2) the witch's bottom half keeps falling off, with minimal movement Is anyone else facing this problems? Or did I just get a crappy set by chance? And is there anything I can do about it?
  16. I hope so. Will call them in the morning and see. In unrelated news, Mighty Ape has the Town Hall for $250.
  17. Did some purchases on the LEGO website last week and LEGO placed a hold on my credit card, which entailed removing some funds from it equal to the amount ordered. After shipping however, my credit card was charged again with the amount of the purchase that has now been shipped. So I'm just wondering why this is happening, and if the initial hold will be removed and the funds returned to my account? If not, haven't they technically double-charged me?
  18. this is even better than actual Lego Architecture sets. If this was actually produced, it'll be the first set I actually want to buy
  19. I'm in NZ and I called them up after I made the order. They said the online system wasn't functioning properly but if you purchased above the required amount they'll send the free set to you anyway. It won't appear in your cart at all.
  20. I'm in New Zealand, so that's neither Europe nor America. Anyway, I called the Lego store and they said that I'll be getting it, regardless of what the website says. Apparently, they don't have the functionality to add that item into the shopping cart yet, and it'll be sent out separately from my order.
  21. The Lego Shop website specifically says 'No PO Boxes', so you definitely can't do it. Try Bricklink or eBay or Amazon. I ordered mine early this morning so hope it arrives safe and sound. On an unrelated note, the website didn't add the free holiday set to my cart when I completed the order, even though I did it on the 1st of October and got double VIP points. Will I still get it though? Spent a shitload of money so hope I do.
  22. Any chance you could share some pictures? I wanted to make roofs removable, but not entirely sure how and what color bricks to do that with.
  23. Were you referring to this? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=94446 I was thinking of putting this down next to a 32x32 or 32x48 park (on the other side of which is my Parisian Restaurant), so yes, setting it back from the street could work. Don't want to put it right next to the modulars because it'll look out of place, so will definitely have something to separate it off. Wanted a graveyard at first, but the Parisian Restaurant might lose all its customers....
  24. So I decided to bite the bullet and used up a chunk of my savings to get the Haunted House from the Lego Shop now that it's October and they have the free Workshop and double VIP pints. Now, most MOC's I found online were of people using 2 separate 16x32 baseplates so that the house swings open as usual. I initially wanted to make it a 32x32 set but then I realised this wouldn't work because there would either be no space for the main gates at the front, or the model wouldn't be able to swing open like it's supposed to. Would it be better to use 3 16x32 plates (2 for the house, and one up front for the gates and lawn), or just use a normal 32x32 plate and simply place the house on top of it? Plus I was thinking that if I went for the first option, I could build directly onto the baseplates instead of onto the plates provided for the Haunted House, and keep the unused plates for other purposes. The second option would mean having to unattach it from the 32x32 plate every single time I wanted to tinker with it, but creating a smaller lawn would be much easier than a 32x48 lawn of the first option.
  25. Thanks for taking the time to type out all that! It made things a whole lot clearer, but just to be safe, I'll send them an email to confirm things. :-)
