[MOC] Icon Bronco
BigCatBoy replied to BigCatBoy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, thanks guys! I'm taking a break from lego building right now, but thankfully I still visit the site every now and then. Honk77: Sorry, I don't have build instructions. Also, this Bronco's been dismantled for bigger and better things in the future. I hope to stop the model-style builds and start some technic stuff, with model-team style bodies. I'm working on a car/truck right now, just having some issues figuring out the technic side of it. I hope to finish it before the year ends. -

Ha, I agree. It's too bad that this type of thing will continue, not just with Lego builds. People will always try to steal from others. I've already had issues with people wanting to use some of my automotive artwork without my consent, too. I'm thinking of using a watermark on all my images from now on, though I'll be making sure they're not too intrusive on the images. Oh yeah, I love those old Range Rovers. I only mentioned Defenders because that is what my brother thought I built, and just based off of that, I assumed you were implying the same thing. Speaking of those Range Rovers, I've been testing out some ideas on LDD on how I could build that exact truck you've shown in the first image, with slightly larger tires and some off-road equipment. I definitely see how my bronco build can look very similar especially with that white one in the second picture! -

Just saw it now. You definitely spammed that section! :D Thanks! Thank you very much! I just checked out the facebook page, too. I hope this situation gets taken care of soon. Thanks! The 76 look a lot tougher visually. And, it may be more interesting to build a 76 model due to the different rear fender design compared to the 66 models, allowing for more suspension and stance options. Thanks! You're not the only one who thought range rover, or did you mean Land Rover (Like the Defender)? My brother first thought I had build a D90. I agree with him it looks a lot like a D90. -

A minor update, mentioned in the original post. -
I love that 4x4 model! Your method in building the grille is awesome.

Thanks again everyone! I'm contemplating submitting this to Lego Ideas, but the truck is the incorrect model to represent the movie truck, and it's a little too fragile for kids to play with. I may have to rebuild the entire truck and sacrifice some asthetics in favor of structural strength, though.

Thanks everyone! Glad you guys like it! I loved building this one. I only wish it was more technic style, but maybe that'll come later when I figure out how to build technic trucks. Thanks! I'm glad I got a new camera for this truck. The camera was meant more for my graphics design work, but it was a no brainer to use for my lego creations. Thanks! I've used that avatar since I became a member. It was part of a magazine ad for a Fiat 500 Black Jack edition. I thought it was really funny the first time I saw it. Thanks! I'm glad I had ten of those silver wheels from a tow truck set I got a while back. I found out the wheels are quite rare these days...

That looks great! Great work on the proportions and overall look. I like that it is full technic, allowing easier use of removable parts.

Congratulations to the winners! So many entrants, too! Was definitely interesting. I'm a little surprised I was mid-range in the contest votes. I thought I would have been in the bottom ten! Thanks for those who voted for me!

Update: This truck is become far more popular than I expected! Yahoo and Road & Track has ran articles on the build: Road $ Track: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/classic-cars/news/a24598/this-lego-toyota-pickup-is-better-than-marty-mcflys/ Yahoo: https://autos.yahoo.com/news/back-future-lego-toyota-4-4-amazing-190026522.html A little too much complaining from anti-LS engine fans in the comments for those articles. I'd like to thank Eurobricks members for being more open-minded! :) In all honesty, I would have rather put in the standard 4-cylinder engine, but I really wanted to make this truck more unique and have some pure fun with it. I acquired a new camera and decided to reshoot pictures before uploading. Here are select photos of my build! It is built in the same style as my previous builds, model style body with limited technic functions underneath. Here it is without accessories. The hardest part of the truck to figure out, the front grille. Also, my new camera picks up the dust really well! I like this shot. I forgot to include the icebox and too chest pieces in the bed... I'm a diesel guy, but I wanted to play around with the idea of a LS1/LT1 conversion for this truck. In the real world, I'd rather get a midsize truck with a diesel engine for biodiesel use. Cozy interior. Powertrain. I don't have a sneak peek image this time, but there is another truck, a much bigger truck in the works. The truck will include two trailers, but I also wish to showcase the trailer for the F100, too. I may do that in the old F100 and Model A thread. I don't know when I'll finish the bigger truck, but the truck itself and the trailer are both complete. I just have to refine some things and fix the build so they can handle their own weight. Yeah, they're so big that weight is an extreme obstacle right now. Here is the Flickr album for this truck: https://www.flickr.c...57649338040370/ And, I also have a MOCPages page: http://www.mocpages....home.php/116365

Thank you everyone. They were quite interesting to build. I wish to make another 32 Ford in the future, but that's not really finalized at the moment. Thanks. I'm not really a Ford guy either, I just like all cars and trucks. It just so happens my first few creations are of Fords. A trailer is done now, and I hope to unveil it sometime soon. Thanks. I like these better than the Bronco, too. The Bronco was quite the learning experience, especially in designing a build in LDD and then bringing it to life, lots of mistakes to fix that I never realized... Concerning the trailer, everything wrong with it has been fixed, I just need to wait for a nice day to take pictures of it. I hope to upload it soon. I may edit the original comment and add the pictures there.

[MOC] Hot Rod - Fire Bucket

Beautiful! Love the stance, and the details are nice! -
Great build! The proportions are perfect, and I like that it represents the real truck well using technic bits. I'm contemplating whether I should go technic or not. Building in technic form allows for a sturdier setup and playability... I just love the sizing and proportions of everything you did there!

[TC5] Civilian Batpod
BigCatBoy replied to BigCatBoy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks everyone. I've made some last minute updates, as posted at the beginning, and on the main entry topic. -
Hello guys. I finally finished everything to show the '32 Ford, previewed in the Icon Bronco topic. It's a bit late. But, that's not all, the car has a partner! It is a '56 F100 pickup. Let's get to the point, now: The Model A is built with a tapered body, and a chassis with hinged frame rails that made the body possible. It was tricky to get working, but I figured out a way, and even LDD worked in getting the angled body sides built. Rear shot. All opened up, with a removable hood piece. The rear trunk is nice and big. Interior shot, simple design, no fuss. Sorry about the dust... Better detail of the engine, mimicking a 5.0 Coyote motor. Not too big, no too small. This car's all about comfortable cruising through town, none of that fast and loud business. Here is the chassis for the car. Another chassis shot. Faux suspension bits; a working suspension couldn't be made unfortunately. Anyways, that's the '32 Model A. Onto the truck now! Here she is, a '56 F100, my personal favorite classic Ford truck. Rear shot. The truck has two side exhaust on each side. All opened up. A 6.2 engine; it could be a Ford or Chevrolet V8 engine, most likely Ford. The chassis! The frame rails, where it rises up to go over the rear axle, has a structural problem, which is solved when the cabin and bed are placed on the frame. The rails could separate if enough weight was pressed down on the very center of the chassis. But, the bed pushes against the cabin, preventing the frame from separating. I may fix the issue later on... Interior shot. Another interior shot. The two together! This might be a tradition of mine. It is an info image using LDD screenshots. And, a sneak peek of my next build! Hint: It has a custom setup inspired by a black truck in a movie about going 88 mph. Expected release date: pretty soon actually, it is 100% complete and all photos were taken. It may be about a week or two... Check out my Flickr page for more photos of the Fords! [TC5] Civilian Batpod
BigCatBoy replied to BigCatBoy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you! I did try to add a windshield up front, but failed at the time. The set did come with a nice windscreen piece. Since there's still a few days left before deadline, I may try to attach it, see how it may turn out... -
11. Civilian Batpod ORIGINAL SET: 8420 Street Bike FUNCTIONS: Steering (with a HUGE turning radius!). Suspension in the mid-section of the bike. Animated boxer-4 motor connected to rear wheel via chains. Opening panels to view suspension and motor. Kickstand on right side at rear. Windshield, can be pivoted a little. Separate stand that's sturdier than the little kickstand. Link to the entry topic: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=102036 Lego Technic Set 8420 Street Bike

[TC5] Civilian Batpod
BigCatBoy replied to BigCatBoy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks everyone! Glad you guys like it. I've updated the bike a bit: I've removed the two yellow connector elbows that were on the front, and below the body. I felt the yellow color detracted from the overall look. I swapped a black elbow from the seat area with one of the yellow ones because I felt the yellow colored elbow was a better visual fit with the yellow shocks. I finally figured out an exhaust setup, though it's not the most elegant look. But, I feel it's the best I can do. It looks good, not bad, but I wonder if I could do better. For now, I'll consider it final and leave it alone until a better idea comes about. Finally got some paper for a makeshift studio, but it wasn't big enough, and the weather's been very murky in my area lately, so not enough strong natural light. In this photo, you can see how the exhaust tips are rather flush with that small panel below it. Also, though it wasn't shown too well in the initial photos, there were taillights (trans red pieces) next to the rear tire. Due to the exhaust mounting, the lights are now behind the seat. The tire's narrow enough that the lights are still visible from the rear. -
Made some last minute updates before contest closes: Check out the main entry topic for the rest of the pictures! (I'm number 11 on the first page) Hello folks. Here is my entry for the Technic C-Model contest! It is a civilian variant of the Batpod built using the Technic 8420 Sport Bike set (released in 2005), which has 506 pieces. This is also the first true Technic set I've ever built, other attempts in the past being unsuccessful. I had originally decided on skipping the contest because I had thought any Technic set in my inventory had too high of a parts count, until I saw the B-model for the 8420 set sitting on my nightstand. I thought about building Arcee from the second Michael Bay Transformers movie, but that attempt failed due to sheer difficulty. I then thought about building Demolisher, from the same movie, until I realized neither Arcee nor Demolisher can stand on their own once built. Then, I figured this set was perfect to build a bike from a famous anime movie due to the ample supply of red parts: Kaneda's bike. But, even that required a high skill level, and I'm just not too experienced with Technic. So, I decided on one last option I had in mind, the Batpod. Only problem was the set was not all black, and the tires are not wide enough to get that real Batpod look. So, I decided on what a civilian-variant may look like. Even if a civilian version was built in the real world, it may still feature wide tires though. But, I went with the build anyways. Here is what I have so far! Here are all the pieces in the set, including the extras. Here is the build so far. Side shot, showing the left side. Another frontal shot, showing how much pivot is possible with the front for steering, probably has an enormous turning radius... Rear shot. The chain is indeed connected to the animated engine. I aimed to make sure the gigantic spring would be used. The spring has quite the good amount of force to keep the bike angled without too much sag. Some of the panels opened up. A side panel opened up to show the 4-cylinder boxer engine. The real Batpod uses hub motors, which I think are electric powered, based on how the bike sounded in the movie... Underbody shot. One more front angle shot with the front sitting straight, rather than pivoted for steering. The remaining pieces so far, quite a few of them, too. I couldn't quite come up with an idea for the exhaust tips (those two large light gray pieces that, I think, are usually used as engine nacelles for airplanes). I had originally mounted them at an angle behind the seat, but it just screwed up the overall look of the bike. That's it so far. I wish to continue improving it or adding to if if needed. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and suggestions. Here is the Flickr album for the WIP: https://www.flickr.c...57649073427112/

[MOC] Jeep Lower Forty
BigCatBoy replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I love jeeps! You built a really great truck! Nice to see some Easter Jeep Safari concepts in lego/technic form. You captured the body design of the Lower Forty really well. Congrats on the award! -
IMPORTANT UPDATE: I noticed someone uploaded this onto LEGO Ideas without my permission. I already flagged the upload, but I still wanted to mention this. Here's a link if it hasn't been taken down yet: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/93541 Hello folks. Well, due to work-related matters, I missed the contest deadline to upload my Bronco. Regardless, I finished the truck! I lack a proper studio setup for photos at the moment, and I rely on my phone for pictures, so some of the images have a lot of graphics applied to cover up some household furniture in the background. Here is a quick info-image I created using screen grabs from LDD: And, here is a sneak peek for my next build! Expected date of release: November 2014. Here is the link to my Flickr album if you wish to see more of the Bronco: https://www.flickr.c...57648178633197/

BigCatBoy replied to BigCatBoy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Whoops, sorry about that! I thought you meant about my method of posting updates. Concerning the light bar, I'm not surprised you guys don't like it. I study automotive design and I've seen loads of things happening in the industry, but I end up forgetting a lot of the stuff I come across. Your comments helped me remember some things I saw a while back The whole LED lightbar thing started off on a good note because of how revolutionary it was (I think they first came out about four years ago...), until a lot of people wanted them just for show. From what I've seen, most of the LED lightbars on trucks seem just for show, and the fact that they're rectangular without much imaginative form, they definitely lack in asthetics. I'll remove them not only because they're a little too unusual on this truck, but also because I feel I'm dishonoring Jonathan Ward's design on the real life truck. His goals are about usability more than show quality looks. He probably would have never wanted to put something like that on his real Broncos. The rear license plate and lights are similar to the one on the real truck, but the light pieces are too big. If I find a better more slimmer profile design, I'll use that instead, but the front lightbar will go. Either that or I'll just take it off altogether. Thanks again for the comments! -
