  1. aww I missed the tauntaun pee?
  2. wow fantastic lighting and thanks for sharing how you shot it. Great work.
  3. It is a good effort. to make it better, move it away from the wall. The problem I see is that there is a shadow. Since the light source is high, the top of the window is casting a shadow on the paper.
  4. Great Review KimT. Can i get some more information on the R2D2 keychain with chrome head? Whats that all about? Whoops Never mind me. I didnt see that it is R4-P44. From the picture it looked like chrome in shadow.
  5. Can anyone help me find a Motorized AT-AT walker for cheap? They were on clearance at Lego S@H and I missed out. Anyone find one in the Lego store for close to sale price? I will pay a finders fee hehe.
  6. I dont know if this is the case with all Targets but my local target has all xmas stocking stuffers 50% off. I picked up 4 Toy Story green army men and one x-wing. I didnt find any other ones. However one thing to note, the smaller Toystory army man packaging is technically NOT on sale. Here is a comparison between the large and small packaged TS set. I honestly did not notice the difference. When I was at the cashier, the smaller ones rang up $3.99 so I said that they should be on sale. the manager came by and said they were not since they are not holiday sets. Luckily I had one larger TS jeep and had her scan it. It did ring up $1.99. So the manager approved lowering the other three smaller packs to $1.99 each.
  7. I just noticed but nice use of a towel as snow. I didnt realize it til now.
  8. Nice little scene. Although the scene out the window is actually distracting to me. Its just a piece of paper pushed up against the windows. it would work better further away and a larger clearer image.
  9. Yeah fantastic MOC scene. I am a little confused as to what is mounted on the wall opposite of the tauntaun. Is that the dewback? Otherwise great lighting. I love the shadow casted by the roof.
  10. I agree. If it wasnt for the explanation I could not tell they were obiwan and Luke. I saw the picture first before reading the description and was confused.
  11. Im not a professional either. I dont think anyone here is. Its just a hobby for many of us. The best way to learn and get better is to simply experiment. Try different settings and see how that impacts and affects your pictures.
  12. I was right!!! ha I knew it. Great job. What a world of difference.
  13. KielDaMan, I think the OP used photoshop on the figure. Some sort of filter but only applied it to the figure. Or perhaps the snow. either way I believe the OP selected the figure as you can see an odd halo effect around the figure.
  14. Nice pic. you might want to try adding a little blue filter to make it a "night shot" like how Hollywood used to and some still do. They use blue light to give the impression it is night time.
  15. wow interesting. Still not gonna buy it. Doesnt do anything for me. Im not that big into CW.
  16. Thanks. yeah tell me about it. I scoured my apartment grounds and the best I could get was this slight incline. There were other steeper inclines but they were too short and shallow. Not enough depth to hold an AT-AT let alone two AT-ATs. This one at least has a nice long sheet of snow that I can set up on. The biggest challenge is putting them in the snow and not leaving traces of hand prints or foot prints that would ruin the shot. Plus eye level shots are better to look at. hence the composition of that shot is done to mimic the movie. So no matter what incline Im at, im still gonna see something undesirable in the bkg.
  17. Oh wow. If you didnt mention the photoshop, I would have thought that was a stock face. (I dont have a vast compendium of faces stored in my head yet) One bit of a suggestion, for a cool shot. Would be to have some red back lighting and some glowing red bricks in the background. So it looks like he is leaving the lava and anakin.
  18. haha. I was confused when i clicked that link.
  19. Nice. I like the flames. Your clone trooper seems a bit dirty. great minds think alike. I shot this yesterday.
  20. Ok perfect so you have a camera that can be manually controlled. What settings did you use for that shot? If you want more focus aka DOF (depth of field) so that luke is in focus, then you need to change the f-stop. In manual mode there are two very basic things to control, the f-stop which is the aperture of the lens, and shutter speed. By making the f/stop a bigger number, it makes the shutter aperture smaller. So a quick shot in my camera lens is usually f/3.5 it is really big aperture and lets in a LOT of light. But the downside is that focus is somewhat shallow. Like in your contest entry. I would ramp up the f/stop to f/22, if your lens can go that high and im sure it can. The aperture becomes tiny and lets in very little light. to compensate for the low amount of light, you need to adjust the shutter speed. increase the shutter speed so that the light levels is normal. You should have a small bar light meter in your eyepiece. Then mount the camera to a tripod and use a remote or use the self timer. That should help with your focus issues. Not every shot should be in sharp DOF. But it helps for this particular picture. For example here is an old picture where I used shallow DOF to get a pretty cool picture. as for your lighting, try buying a large piece of poster size cardboard. White. Then have the ikea lamp bounce the light onto the scene. It will provide a softer feel. also note that there will be some serious decrease in light so you need to increase your shutter speed. If the picture wont take at max shutter speed, then up the ISO speed. Usually if you increase the shutter speed to max there is one more step past that, and that is "bulb" meaning you hold the shutter down for longer than 30 secs and it is a dead man's switch. the shutter will stay open as long as you press that button. I dont recommend it unless you have a wired or IR remote.
  21. Now that is a pretty sharp looking picture!!! I like it. I like the dirt and stressed look like he just had the fight of his life.
  22. ahhh, good eye. Perhaps a different angle might help expose more of the scene. But a very cool MOC.
  23. Best thing is to experiment or ask the people who take good pictures. Im sure they are willing to share some tips. To solve the lighting issue is cheap and easy. Depending on what you have around the house. a simple light tent can work wonders. Ikea sells a large children's play tent for $10 USD. It is white with blue igloo brick pattern on the front. the sides are white. Take it outdoors and put it in the sun. Perfect lighting for almost any basic photoshoot. Plus the tent is big enough to put the Lego Deathstar inside. In terms of lights for indoor, You just need to experiment. direct lighting on a subject created harsh shadows. Smokebelch provided the tip that he just uses his iphone for lighting. I tried it, and it works great. However to use the iphone for light, you need to be able to control shutter speed. Some point and shoot cameras can do this. What camera do you have? It is not reasonable to say this but a DSLR can do everything. But Smokebelch can take great pics with his fuji camera and it is not a DSLR. Here is an example how much light an iphone can produce. This toy is 21 inches tall or 53.3 cm tall. Oh also, for complex shots you should get your self an affordable tripod and use the self-timer. Try not to use the shutter button for a long exposure. just pushing the button can cause the camera to shake and make the picture blurry.
  24. Great looking picture. I dont see vader though. except a stormie in the bkg. I love the hoth base opening and the snow/ice clinging to the opening.
  25. Good shot. But I feel it is too similar to Black knight112 also you need a bit more DOF (depth of field) luke is too fuzzy and out of focus.
