  1. I disagree. If you look at my comment i specify why. Others offer meaningful dialogue, etc. to their posts, and plenty of content NOT relating to their videos. Take @kbalage for example's posts. He offers much more dialogue, community-involvement, etc. than just posting his content. Sariel doesn't even post here anymore, and videos of his are posted by others. Obviously nothing wrong with posting one's content here on EB. I do it when I have something meaningful to contribute. But if that is ALL you do, and offer little other contribution, then I think it walks a fine line of what is allowed here.
  2. I know that folks think we are being to hard on this fella. However, I rarely see a post where he is not just throwing up his videos or responding to other's comments about his videos. Not trying to be hard on him, I just really don't want EB to become a medium for self-promotion. I thought we had rules against this stuff. I am in no position to say it is getting out of hand.... but as a consumer of this forum, I certainly wonder if that is not the case.
  3. There is much wrong with the scaling. I believe you are referring to the superstructure mostly in your comments in which I agree. But much of the problem in the scaling is also the main boom, derrick, etc. This is what would have really raised the price IMO, making even a relative (and I mean that liberally) scaling of the set, at this scale, significantly more....
  4. I don't criticize the end result nearly as much as I do just the overall choice to introduce a version of the Liebherr 13000 for an official set, at least one at a scale that would include their horrible control+, etc. system. There is no way this thing was ever going to appear like the real thing (in scale only) unless it were a totally different scale. Can you imagine if this thing were to even remotely resemble the real thing, scale-wise? I think we would be looking at a $1200-1500 price tag instead. At that is in one of the smaller configurations. Just a really, really horrible choice for a set by TLG if they wanted to keep it at a scale where electronics were involved, etc.... Big red, which you keep referring to, I feel is really a subjective choice for comparison here. I don't remember the reviews being all that great. Kinda the same as this model, really. Over-inflated size, in fact, if I recall, the phrase piece-inflation or something akin to that was used often to describe it. I mean, just the rims needed 40 pieces alone for just the decorative aspect. I think I recall this accusation being levied to the set to get it over the 4,000 piece mark. A hallmark at that point in time....
  5. Getting around to viewing more submissions this morning of this contest. I really like how builds are shaping up! This one is also a great submission. Terrific functions at this scale, as others have said. I also think you focused more on appearance than other builds of yours, which is a plus in my book. Great job on this one!
  6. But control+ does feel that way, even if its not a literal reality, so I get the sentiment. I also agree Power Functions was a superior electronics package.
  7. Its hard to really see the relative size of the cab to superstructure from the pic you submitted. It is zoomed in on the cab while the rest of the superstructure is far in the background. But from what you posted I like the looks of the cab. Once again, overall great build this is coming along nicely!
  8. You can't use the other several other thousand pieces for anything else? Expensive...yes. Single-use? Say what??
  9. I am no Lego apologist, but we should be cautious of hyperbole. I see where u are going with this statement, but obviously, it's not meant to be interpreted literally.
  10. Not to mention the weights. Although they also could be reused, it would be difficult for many reasons. One, to include, there are no pinholes, etc... From reading everything....this is all speculation right? It being cancelled? Just want to make sure....
  11. Yes, this is standard policy - but still not worth the hassle in some cases. I just wanted to know of others experience using the site. I have decided against purchasing it, although it is a great deal. Seller is new, with no feedback, and there is not details about the sale. For all I know it could be used, or even worse, incomplete....
  12. Has anyone else purchased anything off of Mercari? I see a D11 for sale at a good price, but I have not bought from there so just wondering of other's experience.
  13. Wonderful job! This build highlights some of my questions about the upcoming Liebherr model (42146). Lego cranes, specifically in Technic, have been around for quite some time. One can build quite sophisticated and accurate mobile, tower, and crawler cranes with extant pieces. What does 42146 provide that can't already be built? Sure, there are new pieces.... but I don't really think they add anything novel or new. Just Duplo-ed. Anyways, great job. Any chance of a video showing its functions? Also, is that a regular jumper plate with 1x1 tile on the end of the hook block? Or some reason they look different.
  14. I didn't make my comments to be mean-spirited. I like the enthusiasm of his channel, and the interview is good. But honestly, there are different mediums for this type of content, and I'm not sure EB is it. I don't see it a problem to place gentle reminders. FB, and plenty of other places encourage posts like this. Not sure EB needs to join in. Great video and content, just perhaps "goodness of fit" is the question here.
  15. Ooof.... not sure we need this? Is there a statement here? A comment? Something to discuss other than just the promotion of your video? Better idea, type out the gist here for discussion. IMO it appears a little too self-promotion-y...
  16. this is a very specific estimate... care to elaborate?
  17. This is my gripe with color vomit. Which I will not go into. But I will just say I can handle the vomit if it were to serve a function. But I agree, it does not, and therefore the stench of the "vomit" is strong....
  18. Perhaps, but I don't think it would be in any number that would really lead to them being plentiful enough for MOCing. Really, if we want to see them affordable they will have to be used in another big set like this one. I really really hope we see a tower crane in the future out of these parts. I don't think this has ever been done before as a main set. I think these new parts lend themselves highly amenable for a tower crane.
  19. If there ever was a set to not judge by part count, but rather by weight, this would be it.
  20. Thxs! For those of us that may purchase this, and add to it I am curious how long it might take for that to even be considered.
  21. Have I missed something? This is just a guess right? I have not found anything that confirms this... I agree with others. Kinda doubtful this is all ABS if there are no pinholes Also, I do not have enough experience here, but does anyone know the typical timeframe in which new elements are released on Pick a Brick after a new set has been released?
  22. I also appreciate the different POV. In reality, I think this sums up TLG's reasons for this model nicely, and probably their change in development philosophy over the past several years. They are not interested in creating the most mechanically sophisticated models because folks buy things for many different reasons, but primarily for these reasons specified by @JimsBridges. Highly niche or esoteric skill-sets (and therefore appetites) is not the game they are into satisfying, but a more generalist consumer that understands, hey it might not be perfect, but it somewhat resembles the real thing and hits a strong "cool factor." I still think the model is subpar, however. And @JimsBridgesalthough I completely understand your reasons you specified I guess I am still left asking why not use other Lego bricks to just create something more realistic? Or, if you don't have the time or resources to develop something from the ground up, why not just buy something like Mould King's 17015 set or any number of other "kit" sets out there? I would argue that MK's set, and others that can be found on Aliexpress site or others roughly match a LR 13000 just as close at this new model from Lego but they are like around 1/3 to 1/4 of the cost? Is it just because they do not carry the Liebherr trademark?
  23. unfortunately, I cannot see the images here at work (some type of security thing) but thought I would clarify. I understand there may be different widths of boom and jibs, masts, etc... but my comparison is specifically comparing the two masts at the top. See my post. I am not comparing the mast width to boom or jib width. +1 Agreed!
