  1. Cavalry training: and Artillery training day:
  2. IMPORTANT REMINDER: As we approach the end of the year, elections are needed to select next year's representatives to Eslandola's Colonial Council. Any player interested in being on the council should build a campaign MOC before the end of the year. MOCs are needed for the Sea of Storms, Sea of Thieves, and Prio Seas delegations. To be eligible for one of the regional representative seats, you should have an MOC located in that region. (The trade companies appoint their own representatives, so no MOCs are needed for those seats.) Don't wait to the last minute, get building now!
  3. Thank you much for the kind comments! It's nice to know that my effort on the market build is appreciated. Regarding some of your questions: -The statue is just balanced on the tiles. I was too lazy to find a good connection with the narrow support column. And no custom pieces are used in the statue; I think the gray minifig pieces with printing are from an old Harry Potter set. (FYI, the only custom piece in the entire build is the torso sticker for the minifig in the white shirt in front of the dark red building.) -The hairpiece IS gold. (It is from a Guardians of the Galaxy fig, "Ayesha".) Interestingly, I didn't even notice that it was gold when I was putting the figure together, but only noticed when I started photography. -The red light applies only to the one building. I considered making the yellow building a competitor, or the team hotel, but eventually decided to leave it undefined. Note that there are doors to both buildings at the top of the stairs. -Instead of dead chickens, I almost went with dead parrots! (Insert Monty Python joke here.) Thanks! The team pic is simply a figbarf. The market was where I put the effort. The story sort of wrote itself.
  4. Another team arrives in Mesabi Landing:
  5. The Weelond Regimentals, runners-up in last year's tournament, are ready for another run for the Soccer Cup. From left to right: “Pegleg” Pedro Piccio, Luis Fernandez, Alberto Verde, Fangio (just Fangio), Jan Slegers, Cuju Tsu-chu, Mauricio Montoya, Victor Rey, Raul Baracca, Gijs Reyngout, Robino “Nino” Grijszon. On the wall: Patch Verlander, Monkey. Positions: Keeper: Cuju Defenders: Luis, Nino, Pedro, Raul Midfielders: Alberto, Gijs, Victor Forwards: Fangio, Jan, Mauricio Team manager: Patch Verlander Team Notes: ------------- The Weelond Regimentals arrived in Mesabi Landing hoping to improve on their runner-up finish of last year. But when they got off the ship, they discovered that nobody had packed any pineapples! How would they practice for the tournament? (Team manager Patch Verlander’s training philosophy is “If you can kick a pineapple, you can kick a ball.”) So the team set out to a city market to find some pineapples. Jan and Mauricio meet a lovely lady selling poultry. The center of the market square features a fountain with a statue of “Angry Agnes,” a reminder that the WTC gets their cut of all business in the city. Nino is tossing a coin into the fountain for good luck, while a WTC employee scoops out all the coins from the fountain. Fangio and Victor wave to the lovely ladies, but resist the appeal from the madam below to come up for a visit. Patch appears to have shown no such restraint. Mrs. Arborgast is aggravated by all the ruckus by the visiting soccer players. The WTC marines are on the scene, ready to jump into any altercations if trouble arises (or start one if it doesn’t). Raul arranges with a local brewer to have a keg of his stoutest delivered to the team hotel, while Alberto feeds the horse. Luis and Cuju negotiate with local farmers for their produce. But alas, no pineapples! Gijs has found a small pineapple stand. Success! Other views: Licensed as a large commerce property. All C&C welcome.
  6. Beautiful ship! Great shape and detail, and rigged, too! Great job!
  7. Thanks for noticing that! I was really happy when I figured out those would work as tools.
  8. Thanks! It IS fun working with those dark red masonry bricks. I don't have a wagon wheel in black. I have a couple in gray, but they're too big. And I did consider changing the arms on the blacksmith, but in the end just went with the way the torso was built. But next time I'll change it. Thanks for mentioning that. Thanks. I was happy with how the base turned out. And the interior was key to making this more than a slapped-together build, so thanks for mentioning it! Thanks! That white torso is a sticker. It is VERY appropriate for the age of sail. Not sure where I printed it from. It might actually be from somewhere on Eurobricks. Thanks! I was a bit concerned that the forge might be too large, but I couldn't really make it much smaller and have it be convincing.
  9. No worries on this end: I'm on it. The Weelond Regimentals team photo is ready, and I'm working on my bonus scene.
  10. A blacksmith shop for one of our new settlements in the New haven Sea:
  11. Eslandola’s new settlement on Maldria continues to work toward self-sufficiency. With the brick-making factory established, the new bricks could be used to build the forge for a blacksmith. The quartermaster from one of the expedition’s ships discusses what they need. Workers take a wagon wheel around to the side of the shop. The blacksmith at his workbench. Working on a sword in the forge and at the anvil. ------- A blacksmith for the Eslandolan settlement of Interlagos on Maldria. All C&C welcome.
  12. That looks workable. And I like that name.
  13. If you could get the ball rolling on this, perhaps someone else will volunteer to help as well. FYI, note that I've got a list of my major secondary characters in the ESL thread, as do some other ESL players.
  14. Other than in the faction threads? Not that I'm aware of. An index of sig figs would be an interesting resource. It would take some time to compile, and would need someone to volunteer to do that work. Also note that some players have a group of characters that may be the central focus of different stories, so it would be nice to be able to include a player's other significant characters that surround his sigfig.
  15. Very nice interior scene build. Love that floor! And I like how you handle the scene out the windows. I've used scenic calendars in the past for the same purpose. Well done.
  16. I really like the Classic Pirates feel of this build. The use of those lighter green tiles and the green long grass is nicely done.
  17. Lovely picnic scene, with your usual entertaining writing and fantastic figure posing. Some of the expressions are exceptional. Well done!
  18. Thanks! I was happy with how the kiln turned out, too. Thanks! I went with dark tan tiles around the edge of the kiln because oftentimes in real life the kiln would get coated with a layer of mud to help seal it. I still wanted a brick-red kiln, but this was a way I could suggest that element. And I agree the base is plain. I wasn't sure how to add more detail without distracting from the purpose of the build in this case. The feedback is appreciated! Thanks! It sounds like the kiln was a winner.
  19. A brick-making factory for one of our new settlements in the New Haven Sea:
  20. If the new Eslandolan settlement of Interlagos was going to grow, it needed a means of construction. The clay of the river banks and lake bed was well-suited for making bricks, so ballast bricks were taken from the expedition's ships to build a kiln. The clay from the river bank was set into wooden molds, then deposited on beds of sand for drying. Once thoroughly dry, the clay bricks were baked in the kiln for a week. The fire had to be tended constantly. Once cooled, the bricks were stacked and sorted, as some might be under-fired and other might be over-fired clinkers. Thus the settlement’s first industry was established: a brick-making factory. Now brick buildings in Interlagos can be built easily. ----------- A horribly over-simplified explanation and depiction of brick-making in colonial times, with some steps omitted for ease of building the MOC, but I am happy with how it turned out. All C&C welcome.
  21. You've put a lot of effort into this year's rules! I like it, especially with the building component as a way to help your team. Now I've got to get busy preparing the Weelond Regimentals for a trip to Mesabi Landing.
  22. Because a small residence only costs 5 DBs to license, whereas all the other licenses cost at least 25 DBs.
