  1. I don't like buying knocks-offs of anything. If I like something, I prefer to give my money to the people that made that thing. There are some cases, however, where the people that produce the thing I love have decided that instead of giving me an opportunity to give them money they would rather create a pointless scarcity to reward people for going to a convention that should be fun enough on it's own and not need special "rewards." So instead of dropping more money than I can afford to buy the thing from someone that did nothing more than wait in a line (or apparently steal a bag full of something), I'll spend a whole lot less and buy the perfectly acceptable knock-off.
  2. Similar buildings are inevitable, but not really a bad thing. I have the PR and the Palace Cinema and that's all I'll likely be able to get form the currently available sets. So, for me, something similar to a Green Grocer or the Grand Emporium would be fantastic. I also think there's plenty of room for post offices, banks, pharmacies, hardware stores, toy stores and dozens of other things that haven't been touched yet.
  3. I'm a little farther along this process than you in that I've been accumulating for a couple years now, but only recently really getting into it. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to go about it. I'm finding I prefer to go into LDD with an idea what I want to make and then build and rebuild it there until I'm happy and then order whatever I need. The problem I've found with that approach is the LDD does not tell you which parts are next to impossible to get and which are not. I built a TARDIS and it came out exactly as I hoped it would, but the panels I chose to build the doors are extremely scarce to come by (in fact I could not find a single US-based vendor on BrickLink that sells them).
  4. I really like the extra bulk. The OOTB Sentinel is just too scrawny as-is. Well done!
  5. Love this! I was inspired to do my own knockoff of what you've done, but I can't seem to sort out how you accomplished the shelves. Anyway, keep up the good work!
  6. 19,782, but I would add another few hundred in loose parts. It added up quickly this year.
  7. I've been fortunate this year in that I was able to sell off some things around the house and use the money for LEGO. I think I've spent something like $700 from that. The end result is that I now had a tremendous amount of sorting to do and an unopened Parisian Restaurant starting at me daily. Honestly I found myself buying a few sets just because I wanted the minfigs and that got annoying. "Well, I could buy the X-Men vx. the Sentinel set for $50 or I could just buy the minifigs individually for more than that... hmmmm." I do agree it's been a great year, but I hope they slow down a bit. I don't think I can keep up with this for much longer.
