Holy crap this is amazing. I’m always blown away by the things this community comes up with.
-
By that I meant getting more characters(and new to boot) is great, supporting or not. I didn’t see this set warming shelves except at a small local store that marks prices up a few bucks.
-
Huh? It was a very good set. Who cares if it’s a supporting character...it was a great minifig. The build want bad either. Especially for $20. He’s in the lower right corner in the trunk, the kid is tilted up & he’s peeking out.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vindicare replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Exactly. I keep that in mind when I look the sets over & with my criticisms. There’s only so much they can do. We’ll never get THE perfect Modular because it would then be unaffordable. -

I’ve always thought an extended corner would be neat. A regular 32x32 corner with a 16x32 extension. This would would benefit from that feature & could give you more rooms & maybe a ground floor restaurant in the expanded area. I have my Diner on the left side of AS & I think it works nicely there. -
It’s a fantastic set & build. The buildings shape is so fun to me. Plus, who wouldn’t want a chimney that can make waffles?! And while it’s not such a huge deal now that Santa’s Sleigh is a thing, the reindeer(the little sleigh is neat also).

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Vindicare replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
We’re nothing if not predictable. it’s certainly inevitable that people will pick it apart for what could’ve/should’ve been...I just appreciate what we have. Not having this or that inside has never bothered me because it’s just not realistic...or feasible at an affordable price. -

That’s my favorite aspect of this set, it’s shape. Other than the Garage’s front wall, this is the biggest departure we’ve seen from this line for corner buildings. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I definitely don’t mind the mix, it just adds to a street & better makes it feel more alive. I don’t mind the cramped interior space as I look at their exterior more. It’s the same with height. Seen a number of comments negatively mention that. Buildings are different heights, so it makes sense. -

It’s finally tomorrow! I’m loving this. The shape, of both buildings, is fantastic. The color combo all around is great, love all the colors used. Bellhop uniforms are cool & luggage rack is neat. I’m so ready for this! -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I agree with you that the Green Grocer is easily one of the best. While I enjoy building the interior details as it adds to the build process, I can really do without most of it. This is where GG shines. The first floor that is all windows has a great interior, while the other floors has next to nothing. I also hate waiting. -
While weird, the color change isn’t unheard of. The dark red/green that should be are regular red/green in the first AC House flag posts. But we did get pearl silver instead of grey... then Dean Thomas has a completely different scarf from Buildable Hedwig Harry & AC Hermione. Would’ve liked color consistency...but as a Hufflepuff....it’s nice seeing other Houses get defects.
-
I think all look fine except the red for Gryffindor...should be darker. Hard to really tell the other three as we don’t have torsos to compare really. All the colors on the current House torsos are subtle. Fair. Docks retired in 2019, so not much chance of finding two, much less all three, on the shelf at the same time. I managed to buy City & Docks at the same time, but that was well before they both came out. Modulars life span is definitely out of the norm, having that many on the shelf at once is a lot. I’d love a DA building a year also, but I think if we do get a Gringotts there’s no way it won’t be compatible(even if it comes out two years later).

This is why Ninjago should end
Vindicare replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Eh, I disagree with the overall, but agree on some points. The rehashing of setup design- bikes, mech, jets & cars- clearly sell with kids, otherwise I doubt they’d continue popping them out. It’s the same with City, police & Fire on repeat despite the other aspects of a city they could focus on. Ninjago ending doesn’t mean a return to anything. I feel it weren’t to end, another theme much like it, and every action theme, would take its place. I’ve always been interested in the theme but haven’t gotten much from it, but that’s more to do with other sets taking precedent. I can agree with the mish mash of where they’ve gone with the theme, it’s definitely drifted from what Ninjago started as. I did buy many of the Digi theme though, the dragons & the Temple. Hard to say why they didn’t go the original one-off themes instead of attaching it to Ninjago...best guess is they felt better about the attachment(or had the focus group to solidify it). -
What makes you think it won’t? Ninjago City Gardens came out three years after Docks & it’s compatible. Yup. I cracked it open the day I got months ago. The trunk has a lot going for it with all the new prints and new/rare parts. Glad we’re getting another unsourced Hogwarts uniform torso. Are we sure the scarf colors changed or could it just be the video(haven’t taken a better look at S@H yet)? Getting all the hair & heads is great for Quidditch team building as well. So I’m definitely excited there.

I agree...and disagree. The scale of this compared to NC sets is no contest. Lanterns doesn’t even have full buildings. And the depth NC sets have is fantastic. By that I mean the deep history & fullness of it being a city. Now, to where I disagree. I think it’ll work because like NC it’s a bit haphazard & “messy.” I put the building from the Warrior Mech in with my NC sets & it fits in quite well I think.
-
I was just thinking, seeing how fantastic this wave is only bumps this theme up on my list of great themes. And it saddens me at the same time. I can’t understand what TLG is doing with it. It wasn’t even in the latest catalog & can’t find it in LEGO stores. I was hoping it would show up in Target since they’re getting more & more exclusives. But that doesn’t seem like it’s gonna happen now. It’s such a bummer.
-
They’ve been a bit of a hedge podge. I felt the Warrior Mech was fair at $150, especially after I built it. But Mei’s Dragon Bike was overpriced. My guess for the better & better prices is TLG saw the complaints/lack of sales may have factored in.
-
Can anyone tell how deep City of Lanterns is? It looks to be 44 wide. I think it’s about 20, with most being 16 but the middle section under the tracks stick out a bit further.
-
I just checked the Warrior Mech, it has 1629 pieces for the same price as this City of Lanterns set, which has 2187. Hard to believe the price is $150...but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for sure. I noticed that as well. Seems like an unusual amount of new torso prints this wave.
-
Wow! City of Lanterns. What a set! First....chopsticks?! There’s so much going on here it’s hard to focus at first. The tram is fun & all of those shops are fantastic. Ironic that they put in a LEGO store though, as (at least in my case) none of the stores have this theme. Maybe this set will show up though. The other sets look fun as well. Loving all the new prints for the minifigs & the new rides. That bunny mech is so weird it’s great.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Another downside to living on the West Coast...I woke up early to watch that weirdness.... Now that would be cool. A look back & a short blurb from the designers would be a fun watch. -
Ooohhhh, story time with koala! I only use mine once a year...it is coming(Jan 1st). I don’t really mind the change but it’s definitely stupid & unnecessary.
