I can only speak for myself (whether you include me in your post or not), but with my crane: It was inspired by the competition, but was started a month in. I was hoping that I might have a bit of time off from work, and as such might be able to complete it as an entry. That didn't happen. If the inspiration had hit at the beginning of the contest I believe that I could have completed it. I can't speak for those that took off right from the gate, but I hope that I could explain one entry not being done in time. ~John

No problem! That is a triangulated link suspension, and that design works well at this small scale. :)

What you need is a panhard rod: https://en.m.wikiped...iki/Panhard_rod There are other solutions, like triangulated suspension links, but they are probably too big here.

Thank you! The plan is to build the main boom, derrick, fly jib, and a wheeled super lift. All of which will be modular, so different boom lengths/configurations will be possible. I have yet to design the booms (or order the parts). So the model will not be done in time for TC8, but I still plan on finishing it.

Kenworth K100 Crane Truck
John Daniels replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks very nice with the crane on top. I am guessing that you have plans to cover the IR receivers, when you build the cabin. ~John- 228 replies

Quite possibly a high order to fill, I gladly except! Thank you Saberwing. Curiosity from the master of detailed truck models is a good thing. I might have to build one of your trucks and a trailer for this thing when it is done. Thanks Ingmar. Hahaha, I suppose it does kind of look like that. :-) Thanks Max. More updates to come as the build progresses. Within the next few days, work permitting, I need to order parts for the booms, the other side of the crane, the counterweights and some misc dark grey bricks for the carrier and crawlers.

Hello fellow Eurobrickers, I would like to present my possible TC8 entry and WIP of a Liebherr LR 1300. Link to reference image (Way too large for eurobricks); http://c-bceasncc.la....d6hxJTXEZS.jpg Functions so far; Motorized through a distribution gearbox, 5 winches Slewing Drive (hopefully through a subtractor) Manual, Cabin rotation from transport mode to operating mode. Pneumatic cabin elevation. On the to do list, Complete opposite side and counterweight area. Design main and rear booms, and luffing jib. Build base and crawlers, while hopefully maintaining the ability to separate crawlers from chassis. Build wheeled super-lift. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, ~John P.S. Please excuse any typos/incorrect words, I am completely exhausted from work today.

I'm kind of confused by your comment. You say that the model is "just so ugly", and then you say that the crane is "hideous". Then, out of no-where, you complain about the pneumatic functions. But you don't point out the flaws that you see with the rest of the model (cabin, bed, frame, mudguards, etc) or any of the strong points that you see with it. So I'm curious if you believe that other aspects of the model, besides the crane, are ugly or not?

I just finished placing an order for my Arocs, through a bricklink seller located in Denmark. The total price including shipping will probably be around the same as buying it here in the states, when it comes out. My impatience won out I guess, I believe that Jim's top notch review helped with that. ~John Edit: It looks like they won't make us wait for the Arocs here in the U.S.A. it is already on the LEGO shop's website. In hindsight I should have checked there first.

Problem with power function
John Daniels replied to Draco's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Glad to be of assitance. Replacing the battery box was the only solution to the problem, that came to mind, since all of the motors were effected at the same time. -
Problem with power function

I may have an answer to your problem; I have multiple PF battery boxes and one of them exhibits the same problem that you have described. If you have a second battery box then I would suggest replacing the one in the MOG with it and seeing if it works. Hope this helps, John -
[WIP] Ultimate 42009
John Daniels replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
An acomplishment to be proud of, that is for sure Grum! You have spent an amazing amount of time on this model, and I seriously respect your patience. ~John -
This is excellent, David! The greebles(?) look good without being overbearing. I also rather like the radar dish with the spear gun strut. ~John

Another excellent review from you, Jim! Your review has reaffirmed my urge to buy this set. ~John

This is an absolutely gorgeos helicopter model. It has made me rethink certian aspects of the bell uh-1b model that I am building. I have endeavoured to accuratly model the controls from the start, and your model has made me make them more compact and asthetically pleasing. I have also had to rethink certian aspects of the body of the helicopter. For this I thank you. I do have a couple of questions though; It appears that your cyclic sticks only have one degree of freedom, fore and aft, or am I just not seeing things properly? Does the collective control actually function, even though in a non rc capacity? I couldn't come to a definetive conclusion from your write up. 2nd Edit: Oops I should have reread the whole post before asking my questions. I will replace my questions with this one. Did you use the large turntable as a swashplate or did you build your own? This truly is an excellent model that I am sure you are very proud of. Thanks, ~John P.S. Your photoghraphy is top notch! Edit: Added in the P.S.
