Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
jonwil replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I think most target stores (with the exception of stores like Fremantle and Perth CBD that dont have the space) are setting up areas with special shelving and labels for all the toy sale stuff and then fencing them off with those barrier things that are made out of the same stuff as car seat belts, presumably to make sure they still have stock left of the hottest most popular items when the sale starts. Not that it matters to me, not interested in anything in the sale (not building Castle or Pirates at the moment, only City). -

I spotted the little green tractor in Toyworld Fremantle yesterday for $4, no purchase required, they were just sitting there in a box in the lego section. Great way to stock up on tan fedoras and/or green overalls if you need more. -
And there is no better car than one produced when General Motors Holden here in Australia takes a Big Block GM V8 and mates it with some of the best cars around. The sound (and feel) of a Holden Special Vehicles Clubsport R8 has to be experienced to be believed :)

The legs are exclusive to the cloud city set but the torso is found in 7 other sets including the current farm set.

My favorite car in film is the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters. Second is the DeLorian from Back To The Future. As for TV, dont know of any really good cars in any TV shows that I like.

I have seen some targets that have everything (including the MMV), some that have parts of it (the one I was in today had all the pirates except the imperial outpost and no MMV or sponge bob that I could see) and some that have essentially none of the sets (i.e. no pirates or MMV at this point) -
Just because someone from TLG says "it isn't happening" doesn't mean it wont happen. I seriously doubt anyone at Brickworld 2009 with knowledge of the 2010 lineup (and the 2011 lineup and beyond) would be allowed to acknowledge what is or isn't going to be released in the future.

If you could change any one thing about Lego...
jonwil replied to Darth Legolas's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would eliminate or make widely available all the special hard to get promo sets like that green tractor and all those cool airplane sets you can only get on airlines that dont even fly to Australia. Oh and all the hard to get parts that end up being used in only one set (green Burps from Vestas windmill, new windscreen from City Corner etc etc), I would make those more widely available. -
I am looking for a list of all the sets that contain the city number plate decals where those decals are applied to dark bley tiles. So far I found 7991 Recycle Truck (with JM 7991 plate) 7998 Heavy Hauler (with BE 7998 plate) 7639 Camper (with HL 7639 plate) 7633 Construction Site (with HD 7633 plate) 10184 Town Plan (with LE 0158 plate) Anyone aware of any other sets that feature these number plate stickers attached to dark bley tiles?

I have a number of Chrome Gold 1 x 2 tiles from various older sets (e.g. the World City police sets) and the chrome is flaking off. Is this normal for parts of this vintage? Is there anything I can do to protect the chrome that remains? Has TLG done anything to make this less likely to happen in the future? (i.e. if I buy newer sets with the chrome, will it happen to those?) Also, how likely is it that this will happen to other chrome parts in my collection (lightsaber handles, aquazone knives and harpoons, classic pirate gold coins, exhaust elbows etc) and what, if anything, can I do to help keep those parts from being damaged?

I think the Emerald Night is the best train ever made. Highly detailed (and LOVE all the parts like the driver wheels). Now if only TLG would sell some more rolling stock for it (either sell the current car separately to the train or sell some similarly designed cars but with different interiors)

Is that rule a rule from the postal service or what?

My understanding is that they wont price match blanket %off (e.g. 20% off all LEGO) but they will price match specific discounts. -
I think its lame that they canceled the Wonder Woman film (no doubt in favor of some garbage like yet another "romantic comedy")

Possible worldwide ban on the sale of lego on ebay?
jonwil replied to Duck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I doubt LEGO would be involved in this. What this is about is companies who make products that are easy to fake in a way that is hard to spot in an eBay auction. The problem for companies like Gucci or Luis Vitton or Rolex is that its almost impossible to tell a fake handbag or watch or whatever from a real one just from a picture. Because the fakes are so good and because its almost impossible to tell a fake from a real one based on the info from an eBay auction, these companies want all eBay auctions of their products banned (they argue its the only way to completly stop fake auctions) I agree with eBay in that people should be allowed to resell legitimate product. And I agree with companies like Gucci that they should be able to stop fake product from being sold (on eBay or elsewhere). But I dont agree that these companies should have the right to control the resale of legitimately purchased products. I just wish the media companies would do more about all the pirate CDs and DVDs that flood eBay (instead of going after some guy who downloaded a song, listened to it and liked it so much that they went and bought a whole CD by the same artist) -
My only experience with vermin has been the odd cockroach (seems to have gone away after I added some baits) and a pile of hairy caterpillars which turned into cocoons and then moths. Never leave enclosed-but-not-sealed items around (e.g. computers with the side panel off or suitcases that are not 100% closed) or else the caterpillars will make their cocoons in there and its a nightmare to get it all out.

What Non-Licensed Theme do you think will end next year?
jonwil replied to just2good's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Purely based on the number of people I see looking at them and interested in the shops, I think the new City sets are doing well and I hope that we see more sets along the lines of the City Corner set. There are so many ideas that would be good other than yet more police, fire and construction sets. -

I have a report that the Space police impulse sets are in at Big W. I called every store I can get to but no luck, half of them didn't know what I was talking about and the other half thought I wanted the Squidman Escape and not the 2 small impulse sets. Anyone know of a code or item or something that Big W people would be more likely to recognize and understand? -
I am looking for sets (sets that would be likely to be on the shelf) that have a good amount of Dark Bley, especially 1 x n plates, small 2 x n plates as well as small 4 x n and 6 x n plates.

Crowds weren't too bad at the stores I went to today. Still no sign of either of the Space Police III impulse sets or any new indy here in the west. Everything else (including Spongebob, Pirates and MMV at Target and the new Lamborghini) has appeared. Good stock of AT-OTs at both K-Marts I visited, they had the Death Star (one or 2 of each) but it was behind the counter at the service area instead of being on the shelf. Only other item I didnt see was the giant brick box (one K-Mart was sold out and offered me a raincheck though) The Xmas lay-by on all these items (Death Star, AT-OT etc) is a good move by K-Mart, it means they dont need stock on the shelf for people who want todays prices with Xmas delivery. -
Nice job on the buildings. the Pizzaria reminds me of the one in the new City Corner set. I especially like the way you did the ATM (with the security camera) and the gas station (there are still gas stations like this in country areas here in Australia)

Those look great (especially the night vision goggles) Those Night Vision Goggles would go perfectly with the Particle Gun and Particle Pack as a set of Ecto Goggles :)

Spotted some new Racers in the Toyworld in Subiaco earlier today, specifically the yellow Lamborghini and that new racers set that has 2 of the fold-out track pieces. No sign of anything else new in that store (still had stock of the Market Street though) Nothing new in the Big W I went to either (no sign of any Space Police here in the west yet)
