42083 - Bugatti Chiron
valenciaeric replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice to see they have given the design gig to someone new - this will give people the chance to evaluate Wabra´s work against others as he has had the monopoly on cars in recent years. Interesting to note that we are going on 8 years now since the last front engined Technic sportscar - 8070. -

I´d honestly love for there to be new transmission parts, but it is just not going to happen. Economics dictate there things and they have to amortise the parts they already have. From the video, you can see everything is old parts - engine block, gears, transmission and rear hubs. Probably only the rims and a few printed parts will be new and exclusive. If there was one car that deserved a new engine block, it would be this one as the old parts look far too big on a W16. -

The video shows the wobbly old rear hubs attached to the engine and there is no chance they are making new front hubs AGAIN. The most recent ones are the best so far as they fix all the problems with steering arm geometry. Since this set doesn´t have PF, they won´t need to upgrade the driveshafts, which are currently the weak link. Shame. -

No new hubs, guys. With the Porsche ones it is easy to make front drive, steering and suspension. -

Perhaps the prices leaked were for the wrong sets and this one will be 350 euros, not 42082. I know we had that discussion last time around with 42055 and 42056. -

Confirmed the supercar is a Chiron with 3600 pieces. -
I´ll take some tomorrow in daylight. Basically you take advantage of the steering axle (remove the HOG part going to the roof and then run the transmission driveshaft through the black 90º angle changer. Regarding PF, I´d just replace the fake engine with an L motor and I think I´ll be able to place the servo motor for the steering just above the transmission tunnel.

I have just finished adding 4wd. When I actually complete the bodywork around the chassis, I´ll look into adding power functions. It´s been quite easy with the new front hubs as they allow you to get the correct steering geometry with minimal ball ache compared to the old hubs with the moulded attachments.

I am building it right now from my parts collection. It´s basically a C model if you own 42039 and 42056 and you can work around some missing parts if you only have 42039. I will also try a 4x4 conversion by moving the HOG steering. -

Because 2018 is a new train year on Lego´s roadmap, it makes sense to migrate now so as not to wait another 4 years with obsolete parts not used in other sets. The PF set has been in and out of stock at Lego Shop recently, so there are signs it is on the way out and I think this was going to be the last year for the Mindstorms set too. Since they are going to migrate everything eventually, maybe 2019 will be the date for Technic as that would also be the year for the next RC flagship. -

I think it´s important to point out that the wholesale order list is not gospel regarding retirement dates but merely a failry accurate predictor. Some D2C and exclusive sets don´t appear and they can make some last minute changes too. There was one Hungarian site claiming that 42066 was retiring soon then they changed it. On past data, it should be done in December too. -

So speculation about the make of a 2018 Technic IP car was not ok but it´s fine to spend 2 thread pages discussing a totally different Lego subtheme? -

That gives me an idea. I wonder if the TOW067 sitcker on 42070 meant Wabra´s 67th Technic design? -

We know that 42083 is a confidential IP set and we know the price point and that the Porsche was the first in a series - according to the head of technic design (minute 17.00 of Sariel´s interview). We assume it will be one of the existing IP´s so the only speculation is which brand and model it will be. Actually, it´s probably appropriate to speculate on this since we know the model is definitely coming same as people were speculating if the Porsche had PF..... -
