  1. Wow, this one is - as all your MOCs - regardless of built in bricks or rendered from a surely complex LDD model. Simply incredible! I believe the "perspective settings" (if there are any, I am just guessing; other programs do have that) either in the rendereing or modeling framework was not set, is that possible? Simply due to the length of the model, the linear perspective is not that favorable. IMHO only! The model is very nice! Best Thorsten
  2. I have one ... it turns the "head" of an R2D2 ... well, I believe this is going to change. Thanks for the links! They are very helpful. And just because both of you Italians are "here": All the best for you Davide and Emanuele! Have a very nice evening, Thorsten
  3. Davide, this is very nicely done! The very moment one sees it, 4.5V with 3 digit set numbers comes warmly to mind. One Question: The micro motor does not have that much torque. It spins rather slowly so that is perfect. As you are not gearing down even further: Did you try it? I am sorry, I must have missed the Badoni "Sogliola" model of yours. Best Thorsten
  4. Is it just me, or is there more to it? Today I was at the local Smythe's (is it that? - it was Toys'r'us before) and now Playmobil have a "movie" as well. There is so much fuzz about Lepin and what are their not to mention here brand names - but Playmobil is happily sitting next to LEGO in any store I know; and it appears as if there are 1:1 copies of virtually everything. Do they cooperate or does one company simlpy not care what the other does - or do they both live in some sort of synergism? Best Thorsten
  5. Define average people ... "Average" people as in ... "illiterate gearbox gurus"? Or "illiterate mechanical engineers"? To be honest, in this regard I am not even average but >way below< any measure of average. But as part of "people" being average is not that bad at all. Who knows ... maybe being "average" with respect to people, allows to be above average when it comes to uncountable ways of being skilled ... All I am saying is: I am totally blasted away with what you guys are discussing here, but not on an "average people" level. All the best and rock on with your discussion!!! Thorsten
  6. Ohhhhh yessss !!!!! That would be so cool. Now I have a working Sinclair ZX81 ... and a Sinclair Spectrum with some custom hardware I added back then in the good'ol days. Hmmm ... Best Thorsten
  7. The larger the scale, the more LEGO "pieces" CAN do it. Building 6 wide is - tough, as far as I am concerned. OK, 7 wide gives "some" flexibility, and X-wide even more. But: CAN, as in CAN. I have no idea, no clue, none-what-so-ever, how you accomplish the "CAN" part. This is breathtakingly nice. Wonderful. Congratulations on this achievement! All the best Thorsten
  8. Yeah, as it works with native LEGO BLE software. Best, Thorsten
  9. Dear @Aanchir thank you very much for your suggestion: Implemented! Emmet's transformed house has two kinds of weapons though: The laser type (which is now a "clearing away debris device") and the bullet type. I like the idea of firing paint bullets ... as they make pretty pictures. (When graduating from high school there were two really appealing routes for me: Art or chemistry. I took the latter but never lost contact to the former. With regard to your suggestion and the theme of this thread: Should the laser not work, I'd be happy to give it a "bullet of paint" try ...) Thanks again (very much) and all the best, Thorsten
  10. The smaller the scale, the harder it is. Everywhere in LEGO world. Even with availability of all these smal nifty novel pieces: It requires so much vision and knowledge. Very, very well done! Best wishes Thorsten
  11. I'd like to learn more about the plant-based plastic. They make a lot of fuzz of that. But what does is mean? The plastic will biodegrade in no time? Or: The plastic is still what is was, but instead of crude oil, something plant-based was used? You can make virtually everything from plants or other natural resources. But that may not be envirionmentally friendly at all. And after all, the final product is "plastic". When it comes to LEGO bricks and pieces usually as in: No way back. As we want to still have them clutch in a century from now. But who knows. Maybe some chemical company actually paved the way from plants to PE (guess the floppy tree branches are PE), which has less impact on the environment than making it from crude oil. All the best, Thorsten
  12. Ouhh - looking at the first couple of renderings ... is it me or is there a pirate flag hissed ... It is impressive. Best Thorsten
  13. Exactly. This is why I believe that #70831 Emmet's Dream House is exactly that: It will >never< happen in our lifetime or the next. The conversion of a dream house into a space compatible dream house. It is radical and beautiful. Different. Not seen before. No grey-blue-trans-yellow - but all deep space. Plus: it has weapons as well. OK, which I "transformed" to paint filled bullets/rockets. As Oddball says in "Kelly's Heroes": "... We got our own ammunition, it's filled with paint. When we fire it, it makes... pretty pictures. Scares the hell outta people!". I simply don't like weapons, that's all. Thing is: For me, this set is totally space. Best Thorsten
  14. @teflon, is it still together or at least sort of? If so: As @aminnich suggested: A list of issues may be of help. To make one thing absolutely sure: I have NO clue what to do about your issues, but I know for SURE that folks in this forum do. This place is incredible. All the best Thorsten
  15. I wish I'd even get that - considering that I have no clue what "looks 12" means What a wonderful crowd of people. Finally I have an idea - this is so cool. Thank you all very much again! I wish I could meet you guys in person - it must be ... fantastic ... at least ... All the very best to all of you, Thorsten
  16. Maybe it is not. Your suggestion may really be key to this >fantastic< build!!! @teflon, do not give up. Please. What you have created is way too cool. Let it sit for a while, then go over it again. But do not abandon ship!!! All the best - and (as my grad students keep telling me) rock on dude. Thorsten Maybe @teflon hasn't? What are good approaches to get this going? Best Thorsten
  17. yeah, looks like ... But: We are allowed to add/change ... mod TLC's models, right? The fiction over science thing. I took Emmet's dream house (converted to the space house) and ... made it twice the size in length and a little wider (only 2 studs ...). Added a comfortable bed, a shower, a kitchen, a bathroom, a door. Raised the walls a little. Kept the original look and feel as much as possible. Not done yet, but you know what? I'll depart comfortably to - the Moon. Or Mars. Or ... to a galaxy far, far away. And most certainly: >Way< beyond that What I am trying to say is: This set simply made me jump back to space. I still do have the grey/blue/trans yellow sets for sure. But: I love what I can do - space wise - with what is available today. All the best, Thorsten
  18. Even just inserted here as a fraction of a full sentence (I love how you, @Aanchir, use and play the full width and depth of the English/American Language; everytime, it is a pleasure to read your posts/replies - they represent human culture, as far as I am concerned), this is the core of the matter. At first, I was just linearily following arguments about Space vs Starwars and whatnot. You know what simply blew me away? Emmet's Dream House converting into a space ship. That is so much space and >not< Starwars - it cannot be more distant. So yes, when you like blue and grey, and trans yellow - that is not for you - that thing is boldly blue and yellow. But: It is space, as in my space. All the best Thorsten What then IS a NEW Space line? Honestly, I am asking that myself. (I digged the LEGO space stuff back then. A couple of decades ago) Certainly not what has been done in the past, right? It has to be >new<, as you said. Or do you want to revert to Space Opera? Over and over again? I believe not. Another thought: Is all the Apollo 11 stuff - now hyped evrywhere - NEW? I don't think so. Nor do you, I believe. Going to Mars - phew - Mars ... I want to go to what they talked about in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I want to get on board of Emmet's Dream House and take off. Not to Mars - no, to new worlds. All the best Thorsten
  19. Yes! That was it. I forgot. Sorry. The bunnies were - after a while - too much for me. So "Test" did it - better nothing than bunnies. OK, the bunnies are cute. There are cute trains as well - but most of them are - well - heavy or ... whatever, but not necessarily cute. Thanks a lot for refreshing my mind. I am getting old I guess. All the best Thorsten
  20. The current banner is "nothing" in a color that is "nothing" to me as well (I am color blind). I don't get the "silly" bit - there is simply nothing. That may be regarded as "empty" but not as "silly", or do I miss something? Bunnies? Best Thorsten
  21. This is so incredibly nice! However, this is no outing, in contrast, you guys can be so proud of what you have achieved, what you do, and what you share! Thanks a lot @zephyr1934 for kicking this off! All the best, and keep on with what you are doing! Very best regards Thorsten
  22. Why not listing names? (OK, I know ... the internet does not forget ... ) But ... I'd love to connect EB avatars with names and faces. Holger was there but all the others? Is that really a secret? I am not in the exhibition loop - not at all - but I can imagine how much of efforts must be put into that. @ecmo47 you were stoked; were on earth are you? Man, there are so wonderful people here on EB/TrainTech ... my name is Thorsten, last name Benter, "Toastie" here on EB. Want to know why? Because I spent a three months - (the best of my life: Played tennis on grass) - research stay in Oxford/UK. The "Th" thing in my name drove people nuts, so they simply called me - Toastie. Whatever. All the best, Thorsten
  23. Good evening @grum64, in my opinion, you have already done all the work. In an ionic world, why don't you just move the yellow parts/axles much closer to each other and then squeeze them so that the axle is much shorter? As far as I am concerned, I would know what you are telling me when acting upon such an icon. Best regards, Thorsten
  24. And it always has been ridiculously expensive ... Back in the days ... the LEGO LiPo box You can use any DC power supply (wall wart or the like) putting out a voltage between 9 V and 18 V. So any dirt cheap lets say 12 V DC wall wart will do. Best Thorsten
  25. Yes: Was this one, I believe. And yes, I have to do that all the time as well - in China, they even "detected" a ting they gave me for a conference talk deeply within the checked baggage: A small LED light powered by a LiPo - I had to put that into my carry on baggage. But then what? Why is TLG putting the LiPo to an end of life? There are ships. Trucks. Yes these can suffer from fire as well - but how on earth does all the stuff come from China to the rest of the world? I simply don't get it. Very interesting! Any tip how I would do that? (Just presume that I am completely CAD illiterate and even worse than that). The PUP LED is around €10 (currently not available in Germany, can't remember the exact price, BL sells them starting around this price). Would like to have a couple of connectors. Anyway, how do you get the metal contacts into the 3D printed plug? Sorry for asking, maybe you have posted that somewhere else? Yes, that would work very nicely. However, I believe TLGs LiPo electronics is really nice (with regard to power range for loading - i.e. the 10 V DC wall wart joke, overloading protection, overcurrent protection - cool). I already entertained the idea of merging the LiPo electronics with the PUP electronics. The latter could be housed in a flat 4x10 (= the lid) x 4 plates or so height with a direct connection to the LiPo. So far I have retrofitted a couple of my trains with a dual LiPo/PUP (2I/O hub) pack + track power pickup without any severe cutting - it is space demanding though. On the other hand it works really nice. Should post it here … Best wishes, Thorsten
