  1. Thanks for the inside information just2good. Based on the conversation in this forum over the past couple of days, I figured this was exactly the case. That being, the theme got one more wave because of the app brick integration experiment and the sunk costs to Lego associated with it and the theme. Assuming that Lego considers the app brick integration a success, I imagine we will see it brought to other themes in the future. But I do have an observation about UA and non-licensed action themes in general. UA looked to be a successful theme with a good concept (Secret Agents with high Tech equipment), and a multimedia tie in combined with great sets. But, I can't help but wonder if it ultimately was a victim of Ninjago's success. Any future action theme will have to deal with the fact the Ninjago is first and foremost in the minds of kids and parents looking for those kinds of sets (taking SW and Superheroes out of the equation for a moment). And between Ninjago and those other themes, I think Lego will have a hard time cultivating another "hit" non-licensed boy-focused theme. I guess they will just keep on trying as I'm sure they would want to have another super successful non-licensed action line to run side by side with Ninjago. I enjoyed UA and hopefully will be able to get at least Ultrasonic Showdown. And I'm excited to see what Lego plans to do next in this area!
  2. Agreed. There won't be any reveal for the movie given its release date. What is interesting though, is the wording of the press release for the panel. It throws out a couple of teasers about the future of the franchise and the previously mentioned "sneak peaks" at....things that aren't mentioned in the press release! Now that's a teaser!! If you set the bar for this low, I think that the likely scenario is a look at the D2C temple set and a preview of the "Possession" season of the TV series as it may only have started in North America by the time of the Comic Con Panel. In addition, since someone always asks about future sets, we should get some vague information about the next season of the TV show and waves of sets like we did last year. But, what about this idea? If the Ninjago line is doing well and has become enough of a pop culture phenomenon that it gets it's own CC panel for a 2nd year, then maybe Lego will reveal one or 2 sets for the Winter 2016 wave. The same way they have done in the past with Star Wars and Marvel/DC. Now, this would require Lego dropping its current pattern of secrecy surrounding non-licensed sets and I'm not sure that they would change their ways at this point in time given their well documented concerns about their I.P. But I don't think it's out of the question to get perhaps a view at 1 or 2 upcoming sets. If I had to handicap it, I'd say a 80% chance of the first scenario and a 20% chance of the second. At least we won't need to wait too long to find out!
  3. If Pirates are the enemy faction, I don't see how the wave could not be water focused and the vehicles focused primarily on boats/ships. And it's not that I see that a Pirate (Ghost Pirate...?) theme would be a stretch. Rather, I would consider it to be a re-hash of stuff that Lego has already done very recently. I respect your opinions though and as I mentioned before if this was something Lego had in the pipeline that never made it to the front burner, now might be a perfect time to use it given the possible product pipeline disruption caused by the moving back of the movie release date. *Shrugs* In any case, we should have an idea as to what the future holds in, oh say, 60 days or so.
  4. I find this doubtful. Lego just released an entire line of Pirate sets this year. I don't see them releasing another line of pirate related sets in a different theme one year later. Besides which, a pirate line would likely be nautically themed vehicle-wise and we just got a huge Destiny's Bounty set along with another 2 boats in City of Stiix so I don't think that Pirates are in the cards for the next wave of sets. The only way this might happen is assuming LegendsofNinjago's recollection is correct, they may have planned out a season of episodes and models and then put them aside in favor of the Rebooted/Cultists/Ghost lines. Now, with the movie being moved back and their product pipeline perhaps disrupted somewhat, they might go back to those plans/designs, flesh them out and release them to give them some time to plan the next wave or 2 that would need to hit shelves before the movie. But even that seems like a stretch to me. No, I don't think we are looking at a pirate wave.
  5. Agreed. I don't see any of the "hints" you describe. Unless you are talking about another wave of ghost sets or maybe Garmadon comes back out of the other dimension and is evil again with a new type of army? If you have some info you would like to share, that would be great! At this point, the only thing I would guess for certain is that we will probably get another wave of Airjitsu spinners. Maybe they port the App Bricks from Ultra Agents to Ninjago and use them in the next wave of sets. San Diego Comic Con is coming up in a couple of weeks or so. Last year, someone from the boards attended the Lego presentation and they provided some info on the new wave of Ninjago sets (albeit very limited info). So we might hear more then. If anyone from the boards is going, hopefully they can ask for and receive some details just like last year.
  6. With the movie coming out in fall of 2017, we can assume at least 2 waves of sets before the movie. I can see them not releasing any sets for winter 2017 and then do a full court press when the movie comes out with CMF, video games, sets, etc. As for future enemies, so far we have had: - Skeletons (undead) - Snakes (creatures) - Stone Army (summoned supernatural creatures/constructs) - Nindroids (robots/sci fi) - Anacondrai/Cultists (snakes/corrupted humans) - Ghost Army (undead) Looking back, I think it is safe to say that the next 2 enemy waves will not be undead as they have already been used twice. Likewise, no snakes as they have been used twice. But given what seems to be a penchant for "re-visiting" past antagonists, I could see them going with: - Dragon People (creatures) - Demons/Dragon-People (summoned/supernatural/extra planar creatures) Or something a bit more off the board - Aliens - Evil Ninja/Samurai Honestly, there are only so many types of "bad guys" to go around! We should find out what's coming next in a couple of months!
  7. You can try Ebay. With some searching, you can find some UK sellers that are selling the sets at or just slightly above UK retail. Express shipping may get it to you in time for your son's birthday. I am in the same boat as you (son's birthday upcoming) and was able to buy a set for my son for a grand total of $17 above retail which is pretty much a wash when you factor in shipping costs. You might also want to try Amazon UK. I think you may have similar results. Good luck to you sir!
  8. I'd say that there is a 75% chance that this is the end of the line. And from what I have seen, it's going out on a high note! However, there is a small chance that it might get another wave of sets. I assume that Lego spent a lot of resources developing the interactive app and the app bricks. They may want to give it one more go with another wave of sets before they take those app bricks and start to apply them to other lines (I could see them working well with Ninjago). That way, if they want to experiment with them further, they can do it with a line they have already developed. If (and I admit, it's a big if) UA gets another wave, I can see them introducing a new set of villains. One way to perhaps get a hint would be to play out the mission on the app for the Ocean HQ/Portal Hideout. If there is a cliffhanger ending, then we might get another wave! But yeah, I'm also pretty sure that this is the last wave.
  9. Some information for all of us in Canada/USA looking to buy the sets. Currently, on Ebay all sellers of the Ninjago summer 2015 sets are in the U.K. From what I saw, best price on the sets (including shipping), still works out to around twice N.A. retail price. However, that will change in a week when the sets are mass released in the U.K. at Lego stores (they are currently only being stocked by independent stores, some larger regional chains, and in limited supply at TRU). More availability means more sellers on Ebay which will drive the price down. Now, you will still have to pay up over N.A. retail, but if you are impatient and want/need the sets before August 1st, you might be able to get the sets at something in the realm of the reasonable. I'm in this situation as my son wants a couple of the new sets for his b-day in late June and what can I say, I try to be a good dad!
  10. Last year's Ninjago summer wave was out in June 2014 in N.A. The N.A. release date is supposed to be August 1st with Europe (and Asia...?) getting them some time before that, likely July with some availability in June. For N.A., the worst case scenario is an August release date (as per NYTF) with some limited availability (TRU and specialty retailers) in mid-late July. Now, a poster in another forum did say that based on the latest club magazine, that Ultra Agents sets looked to be released in June and they had August dates on them when on display at NYTF. So there might be a slim chance that given the apparent move-up in the UA set release schedule that the Ninjago sets could come out a month early (July) which means perhaps limited availability in mid-late June. They are not coming out in June at Lego stores, since they are not shown in the club magazine that other people have in hand. If anyone has the May/June club magazine in hand and could confirm the lack of any Summer Wave Ninjago sets, then we know not to expect them until mid-late June at the earliest.
  11. I raised the same question a couple of pages back. It appears that the drone does in fact fit in the space behind the cockpit in the body of the jet. The hollow space is quite large and there is technically no reason for it to be designed that way other than to house the drone. The summer sets look awesome and Ultrasonic Showdown looks like one of the better $20ish sets that I have ever seen!
  12. Having now seen Chain Cycle Ambush and Jay Walker One, I have to say that both sets look good. Chain Cycle looks to me like a similar set to Destructoid. That being a set that comes in at less than 300 pieces, but that carries a higher price tag than the piece count warrants. It would not surprise me if this is a $29.99/$39.99 $USD/$CDN set when it is released in NA and I am guessing it will be a Lego store exclusive. As for the set itself: the bike looks good and think it will look even better in hand. The main play function appears to be a rear-mounted catapult that launches a small bola. I can't tell if the bike has any other features. Also, the set comes with 3 minifigs, 2 of the "Slimer" ghosts and 3 builds (weapon stand/shrine, zane's hoverboard and the bike). I tend to like sets with multiple builds, so that makes this a winner for me. Jay Walker One is I believe a 385 or so piece set. The box does not really illustrate the functions of the set that well, except that there appears to be something going on with the front of the vehicle and something with that side attachment. Not sure if those two things have play features that relate to each other...? Also, a good selection of minifigs and it looks like the ghost shrine has some kind of disc launching feature as you can see one flying towards Jai's vehicle. Neither set comes with a dragon, which is kind of disappointing. But you can get a dragon (a small one though mind you) in the smallest and cheapest set (Cole's Bike) which is great! As for the rest of the sets, my main nitpick is that although they look good, they seem to somewhat lack in play features. I'll hold out hope that set descriptions and in hand reviews show more of that than what is readily apparent. With the sets up for pre-order on Amazon UK, it might mean a June release in Europe/Asia. Looks like NA has to wait until August or mid July at the very earliest.
  13. As far as future sets are concerned and going by typical product planning cycle timelines, TLG already has the Winter 2016 designs mostly done and probably in the final design stage with preliminary images ready to go into the retailer catalog in another 60 days or so. So, assuming that a wave of Ninjago would have come out prior to the movie sets in 2016, then for sure that wave will be released. So, basically absent the movie sets that would have been the Summer 2016 sets, TLG have bought themselves a few months to come up with a Summer 2016 wave that is not movie-based. As for the TV show, same thing. Assuming that episodes would be made around the Summer 2015 (Ghosts) and Winter 2016 (?) sets, then those would be either being made now (Summer 2015 - Ghosts) or in the final planning stages (Winter 2016). Bottom line, I don't think that there is too much cause for concern in the short term. Assuming that TLG intended to continue Ninjago up to the old movie release date of September 2016, then another wave of sets and presumably another season of the TV show, is all but assured. That takes us into summer 2016. If the movie is now coming out in Fall of 2017, then TLG would need to produce another 2 waves of sets to bridge to the movie sets. I could guess that if the movie was going to come out in September 2016 as originally planned, then TLG would have intended to continue the line for at least another year after that. So, that could make it likely that sets will continue to be released up to Summer 2017 when the movie sets would be released. Also, many toy manufacturers will have a product pipeline planned out 2 years into the future (Hasbro and Mattel do this), so it is not unreasonable to speculate that Lego has a product pipeline that could fill shelves until the movie sets come out.
  14. Thanks for the info Penkid11. Premature product leaks are becoming more and more scarce as toy manufacturers crack down on it. All of the minifigs listed by the EBay seller have been sold (looks like they had 5 sets of 3 figures). So, I guess keep an eye on YouTube in a couple of days!
  15. Interesting. I guess one of the online lego reviewers will pay the price and use it for channel content so we could see and in hand review of these soon. But still, $50 for 3 minfigs with zero accessories is a bit much...I'm guessing these are production samples which explains why they are out so early. I assume that, given this auction, some more stuff may be showing up on Ebay soon so we should all stay tuned I guess! Question: Has anyone ever put up an entire set months before release?
  16. Hi just2good. Is your source able to provide any other details on the Chain Cycle set like piece count, included minifigs, where being sold if retail exclusive and even what is in the set? Also, given Chain Cycle is 70730, Jai Walker is 70731 and Blaster Bike is 70733, can your source provide any insight as to the other set - 70732? Does that one even exist? I had hoped to have the set list fleshed out by now! Any info is appreciated!
  17. This just gave me an idea. The new James Bond movie is coming out this December......so.....maybe Ultra Agents gets another wave........?
  18. Having seen several video reviews of the 2 large sets in this wave (Ultra Copter & Stealth Patrol), I have to give a slight edge to the Stealth Patrol set. In Canada, the Ultra Copter set is $99.99. It features a great model in the copter itself. However, there are a couple of minor nit picks for me. I think that the set suffers from being not the best proposition, value wise. It could have benefited greatly from another 125 pieces or so which could have beefed up Anti Matter's vehicle or dealt with my other nit pick about the copter. The other nitpick I have with it is the large empty gap in the center of the copter. Now, there is a play feature in there with the grappling hook accessory, but I think it would have been much better if that large area contained, say, a deployable drone or a small flyer for the agents. To me with this set, they should have either lowered the price point or given more pieces for the price. At $70 - $75, it would be a great set. At $99 with another 125 pieces or so, it would be a great set. Even at a higher price point with more pieces it would be a great set. But from where I stand, the set does not quite hit the mark given its price point. Stealth Patrol on the other hand, at $59.99 is a good set even if the parts count is a bit light for the price. You get 4 minifigs with a nice assortment of accessories including an Elite Agent. You also get 3 buildable items: P.U.P., the mech and the 4X4. All are good models and the 4X4 has many useful and interesting play features. I personally like it when Lego does the "Playset" models that have several elements in them (Invisible is also like this) as I think it represents good value for money. If I had to rank the sets, I would go 1) Stealth Patrol 2) Ultra Copter 3) Invisible Gold Robbery 4) Spyclops and 5) Drillex. My son has a Lego store Gift card and will wants to use it on Stealth Partrol and Spyclops. I think he made a decent call! Has anyone had a chance to use the App Brick Gadgets with the App Game? How do they work and do they make the gaming experience more interesting?
  19. Hi Everyone. I sent an email to Sir Von Lego, who has access to a summer retailer catalog and asked him if he could provide any details on sets 70730 (Chain Cycle Ambush) and 70732 (unknown set). He responded that neither set was listed in the catalog that he saw. Not sure what to make of that, but since "Jai Walker" is 70731 and Cole's bike is 70733 then surely there is a set 70732? There is a chance, I suppose that since 70733 is the smallest set (so far) of the summer waves that perhaps 70730-32 are retailer exclusives that form a separate sub-series of sets much like the tournament of elements sets had different series numbering from the main Anacondrai sets? I know this has been discussed in the forum already, but since I had the info from Sir Von Lego, I figured it was worth sharing.
  20. I've been out of the loop since before NYTF and now checking the news/photos, I don't see any info or pics of 70730 - "Chain Cycle Ambush" or 70731 "Jay Walker One". I don't think we have ever seen a photo of 70730 and nothing other than a prelim pick of 70731. So, does 70730 even exist at this point? Has 70731 been mothballed? Were there any better pics of 70731? Given the numbering of the sets, I would assume that they are smaller than 70733 (Cole's bike) and has there ever been a mention of a 70732? Has anyone heard anything...? Is it possible that those sets now don't exist and didn't make it past the preliminary stage? Has that ever even happened?
  21. Good review! I bought this set for my son who really likes it. I think it is the best mech of the Ninjago line so far. It is compact, but still very detailed. The stud shooter and fold out wings are good play features and the mech can hold the jade blade as a weapon and it looks okay due to the size of this particular jade blade. I continue to be impressed with the smaller sets in the Ninjago line.
  22. Yeah, the Lego store is not supposed to have them available for online sales before March 1st (i.e. today) and not sure whether they were physically in Lego stores before that date, but Toys R Us has had them available online and in store for a week now (maybe a bit longer). By this week, they should be available everywhere and plentiful. Now the wait for the summer sets begins! In NA based on the August release dates shown at Toy Fair, we should see them at TRU sometime mid-July.
  23. NYTF labels on the sets showed an August release date. So, based on that it looks like at the very least the tentative launch date in NA is August. If that is the case, then sets should start to show up at retail in July. But until we get official word from Lego we won't know for sure. And we should get official word by May or so I suppose
  24. Can anyone tell if the app-brick "drone" attaches to or stores in the jet? I was watching the Brick Show video of 70171 from Toy Fair and couldn't tell (there is a depression in the body of the jet between the cockpit and the tail piece), but the box art does show the drone "launching" out of the jet and from what I can tell, this is the only box art for this wave that even shows the app brick gadget, let alone show it actually interacting with the set. Summer wave sets look really, really good. Can't wait for detailed set descriptions and to see in hand reviews. Hopefully, this theme will continue after the summer wave.
  25. Just curious. Where did it say that these sets had been dubbed the "final battle" sets? Also, I have to say that Ultrasonic Showdown looms spectacular. The jet is very compact, but still manages to include 2 stud Gatling guns and what looks to be a deployable drone that contains the set's app bricks. The Brainstein cyborg figure is an awesome little build and looks quite large next to the jet. The set is even more impressive when you consider its $20 price point. I sincerely hope that Lego keeps this theme going. All 3 summer sets look impressive.
