  1. very nice, and you did it the proper way (engineering: design first, then act). b.t.w. did you put all LEDs in series? I would also put some tape or shrink tube around the anodes or cathodes to avoid shorts. I also really like the ladder at the back!
  2. But it still is way better than the large load bins that we saw on the green truck, and the yellow ones. This is at least real LEGO and can be used for other purposes too!
  3. Very nice, gives one a very German like Christmas feeling :)! We hope to go to Germany next Tuesday.
  4. Indeed it is great :) he has brilliant ideas about LEGO and technic stuff doesn't he?!!
  5. Well, is there a green LED on the receiver (in your picture it is on!)? Did you check the channel of the receiver and remote?!!
  6. Probably not that much snow in Hawaii I guess, but same thing here in Holland, dreary, misty, chilly 8 degrees centigrade or so. Nice setting, can you also share a larger 'overview' maybe?!
  7. really, really nice indeed! the MOC before christmas huh ;) @TheBrickster, well you did :)
  8. Indeed very nice, is the sled also motorized / animated?!
  9. Well, what does your transformer say? I mean the net part? The current that a 9V motor can draw is according to Stefan Vorst <= 950mA, so 3 of those will draw at max about 3A. Of course there is some current lost because of the track length.
  10. In Holland Saint Nicolas is much more common than Santa Claus... but did you guys know that Santa Claus is derived from Saint Nicolas and it actually was the Coca Cola company that made the Santa hype?!! You can still see that in this town: Coca Cola has a prominent place at those Santa events. Also Saint Nicolas always comes by steamboat, well... Santa arrived by steam train this time. Well here is my Christmas train. Arriving just in time for Christmas. About the train: it might look a little familiar since it was inspired on some of those old 77xx 4.5 or 12V trains from 30 years ago. The train is a steamer, but nowadays running on fuel, not anymore on coal Santa arriving: This time of the year always brings back good memories, a nice ambience with warm and cozy feelings. This must be a Dutch or Flemish town: it must be Dutch, "Soep met Worst" (translated soup and sausages). (actually this sticker was issued by LEGO back in the old days) Santa brought even some helpers, you might recognize some of the characters he brought along... The second car is packed with toys, oranges, even a Wall-E, packages, books, candy, stuffed animals, etc. Closeup of the station square, with a bunch of carolers singing the old beloved hyms that were the main reason for Christmas: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men", I wish you al fellow AFOL's the best for the new year and I'm a conformist! :) Hope you enjoy it.
  11. Nice colorings! Good job and I'm a conformist! Alan!
  12. Well, I would hope santa would provide coal for the considerate builders as well ;) at least I'm working on a steam engine, hope I will be able to finish it before saturday.
  13. Thanks a lot! He did a great job with that... now we only need some extra sensors to make it more intelligent.
  14. You picture is quite large... But, it wil be quite difficult to do this with standard LEGO although we have seen some sets like this: http://www.peeron.com/inv/sets/3266-1
  15. My students made a moving belt for the 3677 set: it is part of an educational project for Dutch primary schools (created by highschool students).
  16. I had this idea (did actually some testing already): [ point motor ] =----o =----o [ reed ] [ reed ] [ IR Barrier ] [ IR Barrier ] [ Arduino with RF radio lin ] The reed sensors detect the magnets under trains. The IR barrier can also let the train know that it needs to stop (with an IR receiver in the train). This of course in combination with a point that combines two lines to one.
  17. You know what my site is don't you ;) (she is just kidding me ;), girls...)
  18. Hereby I present a prototype of my LEGO Arm signal. I have already done previous work on this: I use a nylon string to attach the servo to the signal arm. The control is done by an Arduino. Next step will be to make a system of more arm signals. The only other addition is some lead hot glued to the white round tile. That is the only real modification (that is reversible). Instructions For the servo I use a 8524 servo from Robbe. Previous tests with memory wire failed (Click!). The memory wire actuator is too fragile (I broke two and have quite some electronics background). At LEGOWorld (Zwolle) 2010 I had working signals like this, but the thing with this setup is that it is very compact and modular. Arduino sketch for Arduino 1.0 Note: I now adjusted the servo so that it moves more realistically (more gradually).
  19. Because it is more reliable and will not wear your track etc, that is why. But it is a nice option. I'm not sure it will be reliable enough for digital signals though?!
  20. Well, we AFOL's like it I think :) nice colors, etc. But... my nieces like to play with normal LEGO, but they will definitely like Friends even more... So I don't get the fuzz.
  21. ah, sorry, too early (in Holland) and only one cup of coffee yet ;) But so, you don't disassemble 88000 but part 87513
  22. there are two screws at the bottom, so either you have a different version or you are totally confused (or at least make me confused). It is very easy to open.
  23. Well, the largest problem is indeed to print on vinyl or polyester (transparent). You need to have very professional equipment to do so. We did that, buying up an older printing press. We use due sublimation techniques. They work reasonably well, but we still face challenges like mixing inks. E.g. the Maersk reproductions look nice, but the color isn't 100%. Of course we could invest in new equipment and we probably eventually will, but still, for printing white / silver / gold there aren't a lot of options. We did quite some research before starting ministickers.nl and this seemed to be the best option.
  24. Well, I think the AAA-battery box will be a very good option indeed!!!
  25. Deejay made a modified controlled version: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=mIq081MEZnI I have good hopes of doing it using a servo or memory wire instead.
