  1. What about a combination of the methods discussed here: making the silicone mould from the existing part, filling it with thin cement, putting nuts and bolts inside it while it's liquid, then let it dry? I don't know if it's possible to keep the nuts/bolts hidden inside the cement without sinking or floating while it's liquid, though.
  2. Hmm, good idea. I recently formatted my LG V20 (Android 8) and lost access to MyBricks. I'll try going there to find an older, still compatible version.
  3. This has been proven time and again for MINDSTORMS: thanks to the fan community, I can still program my RCXs in a current computer. What worries me regarding future-proofing isn't the software, but the hardware, namely proprietary rechargeable batteries such as the 8878.
  4. I don't know if there are others, but at least CaDa is one of them. Many EB members have designed sets for them.
  5. PU's big advantage is inputs: the encoders in the motors and gyros/accelerometers in the hubs let you do additional stuff, like using a motor either as regular motor or as servo, or automatically reversing controls when the 42140 flips upside down.
  6. I don't remember precisely, but I think that, with Pybricks, upon connection the remote's LED always lights up in the same colour. What you can do is, after connecting, randomly choose a colour and set it for the hub and remote. In case two hub-remote pairs light up in the same colour, you can set the remote's green button to trigger another ransom colour choosing.
  7. I hope you didn't overdose in popcorn while watching people here considering the set's cancellation.
  8. Regarding future-proofness, personally I'm more worried about proprietary Li-ion batteries (like 8868 and those for the MINDSTORMS hubs) instead of regular AAs/AAAs: as software like Bricx Command Centre and BrickController show us, it's less difficult to support old software than old hardware.
  9. I second that request. Different connectors may be still compatible with official PF components, as shown by SBrick.
  10. That leads me to a conclusion I arrived at some time ago, by reading posts here at EB: if you ask 100 people "what is a proper Technic set", you'll get 100 different answers.
  11. Most likely people will then complain about yet another car.
  12. The 8448 comes with two extra yellow bent beams precisely for that purpose. I miss those tiny details and the motorisation instructions...
  13. Maybe they implement a Geneva drive?
  14. Well, for years Chinese companies have been getting inspiration from LEGO parts; it's only fair that TLG occasionally gets some from them too.
  15. This opens the door for the next evolutionary step in the 1.8 car scale.
  16. I believe we'll see them used many more times, in different colours, and not just in Technic: for example, the A-frame is already available in brown in a Ninjago set. In terms of reusability, these girder frames are a lot better than the ones made for the Airbus' swashplate.
  17. I know that, I just wasn't clear: what I meant was that I doubt they have a schedule like "we have to release a crane every X years, and something with wheels every Y years, so this year we have to release a crane with wheels". We fans (and humans in general) love to find patterns into which to fit stuff, but in this case I don't think there's any.
  18. I don't believe TLG limit themselves to patterns, and likely are more like "hey, this sounds cool and we haven't done anything like that in a while".
  19. I suspect that these hubs' usage of Micro USB in the face of the upcoming USB-C legislation is one of the reasons behind the discontinuation of MINDSTORMS.
  20. I'm not keeping my hopes up: this could be a simple power supply with a Micro USB plug for the SPIKE/RIS hubs, just like the PSUs made for the NXT and EV3 rechargeable batteries.
