42005 - Monster Truck sounds like it could make good use of PP tyres. -

This is really cool. The front looks somewhat like a Mitsubishi Evo X! -
Ford Focus RS500 Project

As I am driving a Focus myself, I am really looking forward to this MOC. -
I really like the the design. This should be sold as a set, if it is stable enough.

Car project

Ah right. I forgot about real cars. Something like a Mazda MX5. Though it is not available with a V12 -

The chassis looks very good. I am looking forward to the body you will build for it. Though it seems, that the wheelbase is a little too short for the size of the tyres. -
Wow, this is huge. I am not sure if I would be willing to buy it, but I'd love to see it as a real model. I humbly offer myself to provide some processing power for some renders :D

I have basically 2 kinds of Lego. Those, that I played with as a kid and those that I bought since coming out of my dark age. The first kind is stored in big boxes. Most stuff, just being a big pile. My old Lego Technic is sorted in one of those old Lego sorting containers. And my pirates stuff is in a box, since it was last displayed on a shelf (my pirates sets never got mixed with the rest of my Lego). Most of my old Space stuff is still built and in a display cabinet in my old room. The newer stuff I have on display. Or stored in sorting containers and some bigger boxes after disassembly. This is the stuff I currently build MOCs sometimes. Though, even here I tend to seperate. I plan to keep my Technic and System sets in the same sorting, but separate the Technic elements as I did as a kid. And my mindstorms set is in a completely different storage and sorting box.

Another case of plagiarism?
Balrog replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This can't be proper plagiarism. The model from Kupov is clearly lacking a hamster! -
Crane truck
Balrog replied to steph77's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very impressive and complex build. You must have gotten a lot of ideas from the Unimog. I really like the idea of putting so many functions into a MOC and power them by a single motor. that is really ingenious. If I understand this right, you have basically 3 gearboxes. 1. Is for speed control of the motor and located above the motor. It is driven by the second axle. 2. Is the gearbox in the middle. The handle of the driver side selects front or rear main drivetrain. The other handle selects front or rear secondary drivetrain. 3. Is the gearbox on the crane which handles the functions of the crane. It is powered by the primary drivetrain. Rotation of the crane is achieve directly from the secondary drivetrain. Changing polarity changes the direction. But now when I look at the snowplow, my theory won't work. And something quick: The second battery box is just a dupe, right? -
This is correct. Last year I bought 2 of the left ones at Aldi for something around 8€ I think. They are pretty good. Once they have them again, I will get more of those, so I can extend my storage.

Doh .. I need to disassemble the LotR sets before even thinking about ordering TH sets. Beware the sorting. I need more storage....

IR Receiver power supply
Balrog replied to lilongwe's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If you go for a solution like that, why not just use 8 rechargables? That will keep you in the 9V range and eliminates the drawback of rechargables (lower voltage per battery) and gives you the advantage of them (recharging). -
Years ago I did something similar with my palm. Back then, there was a app available, which basicaly was designed as a tv remote. You could record IR signals from original remotes and then use the palm to send the exact same signal. We abused this function several times to manipulate the closing/opening function of cars from friends which were operated via IR (yes some cars still have that). If an app like that is available for your Samsung tablet, this should just work the same way. You could record the IR signal for all functions on all channels and basically have "a single remote" instead of four. But you need a app that can do this. I bet this would work.

Thank you for your kind replies. I will make another render later to show the other side. edit: second pic available now

Hi all, this was just a quick build in LDD. Mainly for testing rendering. Though I somehow like it. As I said, nothing fancy to see, but a little watch tower. Here it is: Click for big version edit: backside view available

[Software] LDD2PovRay
Balrog replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Like I announced, I bluntly stole hrontos' .lxf file for 8258 to do some rendering tests. I have a first result and some time calculation. Regarding the model, I'd like to have it, but I am too late for that. Perhaps I will rebuild it myself in LDD. I first rendered the file with mostly default settings. I set resolution to 5040x3150 pixels, which is roughly 16 Megapixels. Level of details is minimum (original geometry, no bevels) and I disabled anti-aliasing. The rendering was finished over night (shame on me I did not look up the time). Here is the result (click for original size) I already think this is looking very good. hrontos' suggestion with low detail rendering was really worth it. Currently, my PC is rendering the same image with all visible bevels and Lego writing on the studs. I disabled bevels for transparent parts and let AA disabled, too. Right now, it is rendering for more than 3 and a half days and it is at 52%. I did a quick calculation to find out when it will be finished. PovRay tells me, it is rendering at 26pps (pixel per second) right now. So, for 16MP the render takes up roughly a little more than 7 days. So I will most likely see on Wednesday how the result is. It would be Tuesday evening, but I will need the PC for playing some games on Monday and Tuesday, so I will pause the render for that. -
Amazon.de just sent me an email and told me, that the book has been shipped and is on its way. That is like 3 weeks earlier than the originally stated on the website. I will pass by the office on monday and see if it is there already (which is likely). That would be good, since my order from Lego already arrived as well and I need to pick it up there. *saracasm on* I really love it, if stuff is sent earlier than expexted and I am not there to receive it. *sarcasm off* But I really look forward to reading the book.
