Is it time for LEGO to stop being colorblind?
KotZ replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree with basically everyone else: in-house themes should be classic yellow and nothing else. You can point out the Wild West theme's Indians' faces (1990s was a different time), and the Islanders' from Pirates faces (that was a VERY different time). More specifically, you can look at the original NBA line where the figures were yellow but had very... uh... interesting faces... In my opinion, if it's representing a real human being, then flesh-tone minifigures make sense. The original Lando was definitely an exception to the rule, but that was also the first black minifigure LEGO had made, soon followed by the EMT in the Spider-Man sets, NBA sets, and Mace Windu. If it's alive person, flesh-tone. If not, classic yellow. Classic yellow honestly fits any race/ethnicity, aside from a very few specific faces/intsances. I grew up in the early 2000s, and a lot of my friends played/built with LEGO, and even in the conservative, Texan town I grew up in, a lot of kids of all races/ethnicities played with LEGO. Lando had arrived on the scene as did flesh-tones somewhat middle-way for some of my friends, when they started to grow out of LEGO, but friends of all colors would pick classic yellow for sigfigs. Maybe it was because there weren't more "representative" figures of skin tones, maybe it was because, "this guy looks cool!" I tend to find it somewhat straddling the middle but still leaning heavily towards the latter. -

I'm surprised and unsurprised. They're donating $4mil USD to this. That's not a small amount. People can argue it's a small amount to TLG or in thr grande scheme of things, but that's a ton of money. Money most people will never ever see in their life I'm going to be honest, because I know EB is probably one of the most level-headed sites out there. I don't get the riots. The protests, I can understand. The riots no. There's no reason to destroy completely innocent people's liveliehood. People can be pro-police and pro-reform and all the everything else that mixes in there. At least LEGO put their money where their mouth is. You see other companies that are like "Oh! We'll just delay XXX or state YYY!" The only other company I've seen was Disney/Lucasfilm, which honestly is a stupid one. I have a lot of issues with TLJ and TRoS. A lot. And they take John Boyega's protest and co-opt it to make them look bette, even after they made him smaller on their China posters and reduced his screentime. Yeah, they're donating however much, but they're co-opting the important statement John Boyega made. I'm also annoyed by the LEGO fans who are like "So can you make black characters now?" No. LEGO was made yellow to be nobody. Specifically. Aside from licensed themes. Stop thinking classic yellow is white. It's whatever/whoever you/kids want. I had multiple POC friends who played with LEGO and made their minifigures the classic yellow and nobody had any problem. Leave LEGO neutral. We have the classic smiley face that everyone can use for a reason. They made the announcement a day after the Blackout Tuesday. People can argue about that and say LEGO doesn't care because they didn't do it on blackout tuesday. I agree, most companies support causes, and I personally don't care either way unless it's egregiously bad. At least LEGO hasn't been too bad for self promotion unlike other brands or such. I'm sorry for making it political, I honestly have tried to avoid politics throughout all of this debacle.

Maybe it's changed then. I rarely saw them as a kid on kids channels. I remember those, but they weren't played as often. Unlike commercials for Moon Shoes, KidzBop, those animal books or any other toy then LEGO, at least in my region of the country. I think I saw those commercials more on LEGO's website than on TV. My exposure to new sets was the LEGO magazines, LEGO's website, or honestly places like Brickset or Eurobricks.

I, too, will be appearing as Hinckley. UGH. It's Kyle. Where's the day thread?

I wish Stud.io had easy minifigure manipulation/posing, It's my biggest issue with the program.

Curves are my biggest problem with LEGO.I think maybe one of the round plates would help, but they're too smooth. I'm a guy who digs the underdog . I also somewhat railroaded myself into the Lotii due to Gilbert and William going to see them (I was making a Cat C build but couldn't post it in time that helped explain more), so I had to continue their storyline. Hopefully they can reunite with Emile Perrault soon.

I love builds with multiple levels, and I'm trying to push myself to do more of those. My two big mantras now are levels/size and color. The height difference is definitely helpful for the attackers vs defenders.

I love classic hulls too, but it takes some work to make them look good on ships that weren't really designed with them in mind. You always seem to nail them though.

Lovely work! What a fantastic looking building. -
Bomb ketches are such cool ships. Excellent work on the mortar. I echo what Fraunces says. Full brickbuilt hull might look a bit better.

Gilbert and William were out on a march with Lotii forces, exploring the vast terrain of El Oleonda. The forces they were with were a tad green, but they clearly had no desire to give up. CRACK! A musket shot rang out. CRACK! Another, this one hitting one of the commanders of the Lotii force, shooting his blod onto the trail. "We're being attacked!" Gilbert shouted as he fired his weapon. William did likewise. "Can you tell who they are?" William asked. "AAAAh!" "It looks like Carno men, to me," Gilbert replied to his crewmate. "That man doesn't have a weapon!" What is he going to do? Push bamboo on us?" " "Huehuehue," a Carno commander chuckles.

I'm excited to check it out and AU Season 2 when I get the chance. And yes, America's version was hurt due to commercials, in my opinion, forcing the 42 minute episodes rather than the longer ones you all get.

I agree 100%. We're just kids hitting each other in the face in various ways and enjoying it. As for the discussion we all are having, here are my thoughts: 1) I think I knew who Hinckley was right away, but that's just because I've played so many games with him or ones he's hosted that I just know his style. He's less "alpha-dog" and more, well, tuba. He's loud and speaks his mind. We saw that especially during the Vincent/Daniel arguments. Every single person on here that has played at least two games has a style that honestly rarely change. We know who Trekkie is when he plays. You can see it in older games with people who don't play anymore. 2) The anonymous games are anonymous (duh). I do think that there was a pretty good change up in people's styles for the most part this round. As for the deadboard, I really don't care if people keep up their "Act" or not. They're dead, not playing anymore. If they go back to normal personalities, I couldn't care less. I've always enjoyed the role-playing aspect of these games. I was unceremoniously lynched in my first game way back when when I had my character speak with a stutter. For me, role-playing is an important part, especially in anonymous games. i think as a whole we're getting better at RP in anonymous games. 3) Playing online is of course very different from playing in real life, and it varies from board to board. I haven't played any on MafiaScum but I've perused a little bit and they have a very particular play style. EB certainly has its own meta. This can be found across EB though; Heroica had a very specific setup and in-jokes. Brethren of the Brick Seas does, too. Same with Historica. And even the general subforums have specific ways of interacting.

General Discussion and Announcements

So when are we getting that anonymous Hinckley character game? -
I'm in the same boat. I'm only now just starting to accept that "winning" is your side, well, winning. I still personally see myself winning if I survive to the end, but that's just me. The games can be a blast to reread.
