  1. They are the Toyworld prices, which are pretty much the standard price here. Larger retailers will mark prices down temporarily for sales, or offer slightly cheaper long term prices but unfortunately in Australia the list price is the price we get. And at these prices, I'm not so excited. I will be giving the Gandalf set a miss. He will appear again later.
  2. 'round and 'round and 'round we go... This whole topic is an infinite loop.
  3. All sets in North America have piece count & name. Only licenced sets (from what I can tell) in the rest of the world have the name, piece counts are only mentioned in eg a box of 600 assorted bricks etc.
  4. That's a fine piece of work, well done. Welcome to Eurobricks (forgot the name of the site)
  5. I'd buy the castle. (Again... for parts.) I went to Kmart on Tuesday expecting mark-downs and bargains and was disappointed. After going everywhere else first (where stock was low, and mark-downs were non-existent) at least they had a few mark-downs. Few of the ones mentioned here, but I picked up Ramses Pyramid for $25 & Ramses Revenge for $12. Decent games, and nice parts too. Creationary was half price so I grabbed that too. Tried again early this morning, very disappointed to see NO Kingdoms so I missed out on the MVRs I'd hoped for - but there was 1 Fire Temple left so I got that and another $100 of Ninjago all marked down. Stock for all other themes is extremely low, so I imagine new sets are VERY close to coming in. Typically, Myer has a dozen or more MVRs at full price.
  6. Hang on, is that a Geonosian zombie I see? Nice collection so far, and nice display. Looks like you'll need a bigger one fairly soon though.
  7. I watched this on your recommendation.I don't know how true to history it was, but being at least based on a true story was enough to make me tense. My hand was shaking near the end. I am not like that for fictional movies. I thought the final scenes were a bit poorly done, people falling over before the machine gun had reached them in the line and so on. A Christmas Story. Funny "you'll shoot your eye out" haha.
  8. Congrats everybody who was lucky, especially today's winners! Special treat for those who had to wait so long in suspense. And thanks Siegfried for all your side of things too.
  9. Thanks for this, and the comparisons with previous ones. Glad to see 5 minotaurs in a box! Were the bags taken & figures listed from the box in order & if so L-R F-B or otherwise? I'm not so good at feeling the bags for identification.
  10. 1. I could tell beforehand it was going to be questionable with you-know-who as the mad-you-know-what - who in the posters looked remarkably like Elijah Wood. I watched it anyway, as I do most Tim Burton films, and I enjoyed the cameo voice actors. I will say little more. 2. I still haven't got around to that one. Was too young when it came out. Nightmare I never saw until a few years ago. Would've been better back in the day, but still not bad. I preferred The Corpse Bride though. 3. Regarding SW, I put my ex through the entire saga as she'd never seen any of it. My first reaction when she told me was shock & disbelief. To her, Hayden Christiansen was The Jumper, Harrison Ford was just some old dude (don't know if she'd even seen Indy) Liam Neeson was... the guy from Batman Begins, Christopher Lee was Saruman (that's fine though) and who was everyone else? I made her watch Alien too, then Spaceballs to cap that off! She never made me watch bad romantic comedies, but stuff like Fast And The Furious movies. Not sure if that was better or worse.
  11. Was going to say pretty much the same thing. If LOTR has no action figure licence as SW does, TLG could sell any minifig they jolly well please... we could have anything cool that is impractical to have a building set for. And it could even be AFOL aimed and have quite a range as it will be much cheaper than 1000 piece UCS set. LOTR CMS? Not sure, interesting thought though. True he's not just a bumbling sidekick in the movies, but his heroism is greatly compromised.
  12. Well, the Y2K bug + Nostradamus-world-ends-after-1999 thing was a fizzer and many people made lots of money over that... it's no different. And the Mayans probably wouldn't be expecting the end of the world, just that the calendar runs out, to go back to the start... no different to us going back to January 1 EVERY YEAR.
  13. I can't even find it on BL? It's definitely Episode 3 - Revenge Of The Sith. Prequel trilogy. Mustafar scenes. Epic duel between the two former friends after Anakin kills Nute Gunray et al and force chokes Padme. Obi Wan cuts off his remaining 3 organic limbs and leaves him burning alive, screaming "I HATE YOU!". Hardly forgetable. The minifig faces are not "The Clone Wars" faces.
  14. That reads badly, at first glance it looks like they're saying 4 characters are a trio. & I wish they wouldn't bring back Maul at all (not even as a ghost)... Obi Wan will have to go through the Jedi trials all over again if he isn't dead... but this particular image could just be regarding the upcoming Episode I re-release, which is in fact mentioned in that image...
  15. The set photo shows her in a standard slope dress, the original photos we saw showed her in a new gown piece. Well, I was actually hoping we were going to get 2 different Queen Amidalas but 1 is still pretty good, so long as it is the ornate one we were originally expecting!
  16. your uncle. I also noticed a few typos, but sorry I can't remember them.
  17. I like the swamp man, the Dracula castle & new ghosts is interesting. If I was a kid I'd probably love these sets big time. It looks as though the skelethorse is glow in the dark... that's cool.
  18. I hope we do get the currently portrayed (slightly matured) Ahsoka - new outfit, longer lekku & montrals, & 2 lightsabres. Continuity of minifigs in SW Lego sets went out the window long ago.
  19. Very little of those pirate movies is possibly factual. Zombies, fishmen, ships that can fly, people that turn into skeletons and back, (plus whatever the heck was going on at the edge of the world - which is apparently flat btw), independent beating hearts, mermaids & their tears... Just been ninja'd, but it's true that the fantasy era of Castle sets were put in the Historic subforum too, with its skeleton armies, trolls & orcs and big dragons. LOTR belongs here no less than that. Regarding the (Mordor) orcs appearances In TTT, Merry & Pippin were carried off to Isengard by Saruman's Uruk Hai (the dark ones), and with them were Moria orcs (little goblin ones) & Mordor orcs. Grishnak (who tried to capture them as they escaped) was from Mordor. Apart from that, they were mostly only in ROTK as most other orc appearances were of the mountain dwelling goblin type (as has been said). Saruman's uruks were wiped out after Helm's Deep.
  20. Curious, as a reliable source mentioned that there were no Kingdoms sets nor any non-licenced new Castle theme sets coming next year (besides the Joust). We will wait and see...
  21. Interesting that a few have mentioned this. There was one used in a similar fashion already in the Heroica set Waldurk Forest. Of the sets we've seen, none of them were featured in the book ROTK (Shelob was in TTT book but 3rd movie). Very curious. There are no Gondor soldiers (besides Boromir in Moria). I am hoping that the Orc Forge is an Isengard set with ents (inc. Treebeard), & Saruman (maybe Wormtongue?) - he is strangely absent despite having quite a lot of focus in the first 2 films. Or maybe down the track we could get Orthanc(!). You'd think that they'd have a big playset for Osgiliath at some stage: Gondor soldiers (inc. Faramir), orcs (inc. "Gothmog") + ruins aplenty. (Maybe a catapult to fire the heads with? ) Another TTT idea is the ambush of Haradrim (mumak/oliphaunt!) by Faramir&Co. There are stacks of other ideas but I think these are two less obvious ones that Lego could easily make an action scene with. (Which seems to be what they do these days, apparently it sells.)
  22. I personally don't like the idea of dividing up the land. It means we put limits on what environment our buildings are in. Fine if you only want to build coastal or mountain scenes, but I'd like to do a few different things, and don't really want to choose a specific area where my character "lives" and owns land. I'd like to view my character as an agent or general type who answers to Lord S (can never remember the spelling) and delegates down the line to other characters I've made, some of which might be stationed somewhere for a time. So I will be building structures based in the mountains, swamp, coast, forest, labyrinth, wasteland, underground... I might build for my character more than one living location, depending on where his work is assigned. Does that sound reasonable? I think both approaches can work at once.
  23. I don't particularly like Yoda looking like that He looks more like a gremlin! Hope that isn't the real final box art for the following year.
  24. I have already felt the same way about many licenced themes' sets. Many figs, but the scene is a bit thin. I don't think it's new to this theme. I believe the Uruk army set is an add-on, it looks like there might be a pin near the base of the wall. PS the Hornburg is not on the wrong side... not according to the book nor the film, surely...
