Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
LegoSjaak replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Could you show us your progress on this Grand Theatre... i'm really curious!!! -
If only i could make a forest with such trees...
-
I would never choose that sand blue color in this way, but you changed my mind.. it is looking really great!! You should make a little old garden around the building..that would look great.. or use it in a Halloween setting!
-
I see what you mean with making the cental piece bigger, but then it have to break up the pattern. I've been looking for dark bluish grey statues as a minifig, but all i came up with was a knight... The current dark tan statue is some kind of adventurer, Michiel de Ruyter... he was pretty good at discovering new worlds and so on... At least i got a story behind it...haha..! I'll go have a look at changing the color of the statue base..

t Thanks for your various advice! I was thinking of an inverted cornerbuilding already several times before, and it has been done in the past by a few of our EB-members. But so far i am do not like those inverted cornerbuildings enough... Today i did some tiling, as one of the bricklinkorders was delivered! I also made a first try with a statue... i'm not totally happy with it, but it is not bad either.. But, i at least made a start...haha..here is the result. Also threw in some 'water'...

Yes i noticed that too... as i live near the german border i now have to take a one hour drive to pay 40 euro's less for 2 sets... Still it is crazy why there is so much difference...

I see some similarity in the 'Plaza de Oriente' and i like the range of smaller statues in a row... Maybe it is possible to have about 10 minifigs, all light bluish grey that i can use for this.. Th fountain looks great to, but i'd rather have a square fountain, so i'm working on that. I like kiosks, but i'm a bit anxious that my skills are not good enough to build one...i could ofcourse make a copy of someone elses kiosk...;-) Thanx for your comment! Personally, i think that placing two Trevi's back to back, would be to tall for the square...and the colors wouldn't match very well, as i have a lot of Tan, Dark Tan and Dark Red...But thanks for the suggestion! I'm developing the square into the direction of the station/Railway....but that will take some time before i start with that... one thing at a time.. the cost of al those tiles is already taking my budget....;-)

Now that there will be a new Brick Bank, i immediately started drawing and thinking of how big i'm gonna build it, and where it should be placed in my Modular City Square. My XL BrickBank version will be 48 studs wide, on 56 studs of baseplate. The XL BrickBank will be mirrorbuild, so the corner fits in the top left position in the layout as is shown in the picture... I changed the setup of the buildings and made a drawing of how it will be. I also made the square wider, with a section of 32 x 144 studs, so the square itself will measure 224 x 144 = 32.256 studs....covered with almost 8000 2x2 tiles in Tan and Dark Tan.. I was also thinking to bring in some kind of water ornament. In the layout you can see it is in the middle of the square, in front of the XL Town Hall. In former days, a lot of gardens also had a pond or something in front of the building. Now i'm just looking for some kind of fountain, to put in the middle watersection.....any suggestions?

The pics i posted are not thát difficult to make... i actually made them whilst working hours.. (..don't tell my boss). I only used 'Paint' to copy and paste parts of the original picture. I've used this method to find out what would look good when making one XL-modular out of two original sets. For me it does the job pretty good to get an impression of the endresult. It also worked fine before with the PC, PR and DO....

I'm really sorry... TLG is laughing it's head off, reading these posts of people willing to buy multiples of this set.... And once this new set is bigger than the others, you also buy copies of the DO, PR and so on.. It was never my intention to advertise for buying multiples but i must admit that i'm a victim myself too.. i have two sets of the last 7 modulars, and made one XL version of each of those two sets.. but now i'm even thinking of 3 or 4 Brick Bank sets... that would be crazy.....but...they look soo good...wider...taller...deeper.... (Edit: TLG is not my employer....)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
LegoSjaak replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I get your point now and i'm glad to hear you aren't angry.... For the rest it is 'just' an opinion, and that is good...everybody would leave this forum immediately if everyone would comment a new set with 'Awesome' haha... So you keep a healthy discussion vivid! -
To be honest, even in this massive proportion, it still looks great.. It would do good as a standalone too. But i'm afraid you would at least need 5 copies..or 4 + bricklink orders...;-)

And the last photoshop MOD (the most rediculous one)
-
I must admit i could have taken a better picture to photoshop with... the sandgreen windows in my pictures are not the real color.. ... You could be right again.. two windows on each side will do...and with two sets, there will be plenty of bricks left for doing some nice modifications on the original.. maybe make the laundromat wider and a bit taller. In this way it will give the whole set a bit more depth, by varying the height of both Bank and Laundromat...

You are right...the higher version is way too massive.. but i really like the double width, so 48 studs instead of 24... ~!

I'm afraid you might be better off not being into Lego any more.. looking at Lego being plastic is like looking at a Ford Mustang being some scrap metal and a bit of leather here and there.. I do not want to be rude on you, but you heart would be better off to protect it from anger about a pile of plastic...or am i wrong? I was angry about the rehash of the Winter Village Toy Shop, but now that i sold all Winter Village stuff, it is no longer a point for me...it is that simple... -
Here is what i call a mammoth...
-
What about this 48 wide Brick Bank, instead of 24 studs wide.. With two sets this should be possible, maybe with help of a few Bricklink parts.. Another option is to make the whole building 2 or 3 bricks taller... that should be possible as well!
-
What about a combination of your and my versione....
-
I'll modify at least two of these sets into one bigger building (as i alwasy do..) The bank will have somewhat more 'grandeur'. I could widen the laundromat as well...not sure about that already. Widening the Bank will look like this..
