  1. Surprisingly I made the front page once, for my review of the Historic and Fairytale minifigure set. I've found that waving the gun around helps too. When I came out of the dark age and started looking at Lego-related sites, it seemed like anything Star Wars or army related, or modular buildings and BFO [medieval] vignettes meant an automatic feature. Not saying that they shouldn't have been featured, because they were impressive, but I definitely get how it can be seen as nepotism or whatever. The real downside is that there's a fine line between inspiration and intimidation: it's really easy to get caught up in what's popular and gets featured, and to chase fame instead of doing things as a hobby, and eventually become disenchanted. I fell into that trap in the beginning, and one thing that helped to get out of it was to find out how these featured people built their creations: often by studying photos, or more fortunately through disclosure and LDD files. That, and - as Toastie suggested - choosing to do my own thing. You have some balls for starting this thread: if I'd said anything like that they'd be all over me like yellowing on white. And you're welcome.
  2. Do they have any jester or Max keyrings on sale?
  3. No way! Seriously this figure looks awesome, and that's even before seeing the articulation. Great work on the face and clothing.
  4. I should be able to make it, I'll probably get a fast train from St Pancras. Just about anything City/Space/minifigure related is on my seeking list.
  5. Free bricks? I'm there!
  6. Thanks for this very informative Q&A!
  7. How about this: I wanted to keep the building white, but I agreed about the monochromeness.
  8. Missed out on getting a Winter Toy Shop at a discount, unfortunately having to wait over a week to find out the news. Annoying, but not a huge loss. Two more City Cars to add to the collection.
  9. It's complete! See photograph below. Yet another WIP MOD. Whenever I'm waiting for parts to arrive to build earlier designs, I get so bored I start designing new things. Here's my first and probably last attempt at a modular building: a music label's headquarters. I don't know anything about building modular buildings, so I took the lead for the shape of the building, as well as diagonal positioning of elements, from the Cafรฉ Corner LDD file. I've left some placeholder minifigures for later positioning and styling. Comments/suggestions welcome, and enjoy.
  10. A very solid-looking machine, just like in the game! Excellent work.
  11. Placed an order for five more Ostrich Race sets, via John Lewis. They're going to deliver them as well.
  12. I can see where there's some overlap, but this is really about putting a whole set of figures together. Some people (including me) weren't so keen on the line-up of the newer sets. That's a good start, though.
  13. Congratulations to all the participants for such quality entries (and I mean every single one of them), and well done to the winners. Obviously there's been a bias towards trains, but I can't talk as I voted for some of them. This was easily the closest competition of last year.
  14. Hello, and welcome to EuroBricks! I have an S3 pilot available, I'll trade with your S2 disco dude.
  15. That's an awesome police station! I like your creative use of stickers and things from the new police sets, as well as the vehicles in the garage and the training room. I wonder how much it would go for if it was a real Lego set...
  16. I think that the S4 pictures coming out even before S3 landed in Europe has something to do with the sentiments. It was the same situation when the S3 pictures came out (for me anyhow): all of a sudden I got bored of raiding shops for pop stars. Having said that, I was less impressed in general with S3 than S2 from the outset (apart from the gorilla of course). Some of the figures look a lot better in my hands than on the Net, but there are many I wouldn't have wanted more than one of. For me the most annoying figure was the sumo wrestler, with its one hoardworthy bronze trophy, which I came across quite a few times.
  17. At the cinema? The newer Tron movie. Twas just okay.
  18. Since I've done reviews on EB about the 9348 and 9349 minifigure sets, I got to thinking about what kinds of minifigures I'd put together in a set. I haven't got an idea at the moment, but I'll extend that question to you guys, with the following parameters: any figures, except those in licensed themes are allowed; no restrictions on part colours (within reason); a maximum of 22 minifigures; a mix of minifigure accessories (22 glow-in-the-dark bikes, for example, is cheating); would retail at around the same price (GBP 39.99 or equivalent).
  19. You're welcome. :) Today we have a total of six S3 gorillas and two S3 hula girls, and a few random items obtained from ruthless trading. :)
  20. A nomination for the minifigure trophy (รก la sumo wrestler and karate champ).
  21. Here's your champagne! (Although not real champagne, the designByMe palette being very restrictive again.)
  22. Picked up two more PoP Ostrich Races, and the reserved City car. Had to stop myself from buying two more cars. That makes five Ostrich Race sets in total I've bought.
  23. I would go for a pub, it would blend better with the other buildings.
  24. A lot of companies have used the VAT increase as an excuse to hike prices; pretty much like they did when it was lowered. I can't see myself getting a large set this year for this same reason.
